A brilliant Documentary, With Naloxan we can save Hundreds of People in the EU alone, there are running some Programs where the Drug User get educated but it is by far not enough.
the subject is not about illegal drug use, it's about saving a life. in doing this, we hope and pray (at least I do) that the life it saves will one day turn around. I'm focusing on the younger folks who are experimenting and getting addicted, not having a clue what they are doing. there are also long time drug addictions they also are human beings, someone's mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, and so on. i am mother. grandmother and in the medical field.
Im on the line about this. yeah it saves you from an overdose, but really, honestly no where in this interview did they say ANYTHING about preventing illegal drug use. Its like they are saying "hey, go ahead get yourself fucked up! take our product and youll be fine! :D". It feels like a marketing scheme to me.
dear bamaedgecore, of course it is very important to inform people about the problems and dangers associated with illicit drug use, and prevent problematic drug use. However harm reduction is about helping that many people stay healthy who decide to use drugs regardless all the warnings and prevention attempts.
You know the problem is exactly the opposite as you describe: Often times people are denied the chance to reduce the risks of their drug use - HIV, hepatitis through sharing of needles, overdose etc. - and simply being told that they should not use drugs.
They are not allowed to prevent risks in the name of absitnence. The result is that they keep using drugs but become sick and die, without the chance of maybe getting clean and healthy sometime in the future.
@bamaedgecore Why only prevent illegal drug use? Why not also prevent legal drug use (especially alcohol, which was shown to be the most harmful among all drugs for users and for society)?
Fantastic video. I support the idea of giving naloxone to parents of children who have been using drugs, and even to drug users themselves. One potential complication: naloxone wears off in 45 minutes to 2 hours, while the opiate ingested may be longer acting (an overdose of oxycontin, for example), and a user can return to somnolence/ overdose, and can subsequently die. I'm glad that the data shows that it works in an outpatient setting to save lives. medpie.com
