what part of the world are you growing these in? a hot climate? I want to try this in a cooler climate-in Ireland. Do you think it would work? In a polytunnel? Also with black plastic?
@bigman18798 this isnt how sweet potatoes are typically grown but the purpose of black plastic is to help raise the soil temperature. Anything below 70F wont produce very well.

What do you mean? Potatoes are potatoes. It doesn't matter if they're sweet or regular. They're still potatoes! Are you telling me that sweet potatoes are different breed? Did you do your research online?
@LittleRedF150 I thought it was a 1920s movie LOL!

How did you put the plastic down. Did you do it by hand or did you have a machine?

Nice! Why are they plants not little potatoes with eyes growing on them???
djjoelroche 2 years ago
Because they're sweet potatoes and not regular potatoes.
Sweet potatoes grow from sprouts that come off of the potato called slips.

Yes, they are both different species of plant. I thought that was common knowledge.
The potato is a starchy, tuberous crop from the perennial Solanum tuberosum of the Solanaceae family (also known as the nightshades).
The sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is a dicotyledonous plant that belongs to the family Convolvulaceae.
Potatoes are grown from "eyes" of another potato. Sweet potatoes are grown from cuttings off another called "slips".
Personally, I prefer the sweet potato myself.
