  • I still get chills when I see this. I remember my mother waking us up to watch this!

  • Post that!

  • this is a beautiful video huray for the NASA!!!!

  • in 1.26 to 1.29 there is a man behind the scale

    go to Full screen

i think its a oaks video

  • nice

  • actually all of this climate change and over populated propaganda is actually all false. how are we over populated have you seen the interior plains? and also how is carbon dioxide bad you exhale carbon every damn second. ITS ALL BULLSHIT.

  • pff open your mind please and read some facts, car engines and other machines that use burnable fuel exhale carbon much faster and more of it than humans, bugati veyron at full speed sucks in more air a second than a man breathes in 4 days :) and multiplie that by number of cars on planet and you get the number of humans required to exchale that much of carbon, and obviosly theses not enought of us :) so it's not bullshit, i hope you get what i mean, and sorry for any mistakes i made in writing

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about sociology and psychology:

    (1) Why do we have a perception that space is closer related with America?

    (2) Why do we relate space and aviation with Americans' culture and values?

    (3) Why do we think that space exploration is benefitical to man kind despite the huge financial expense?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

P.S. I live in Hong Kong and we have not space program here.

  • (1) The perception that "space" is related to America is erroneous. Rather, the statement is misleading. Space isn't related to America because the study of space (astronomy, astrophysics) is actually stronger in Europe (string theory, dark matter/energy, CERN, etc.). Rather it is "space exploration" that is perceived to be closely related to America because of NASA's interest in space exploration. NASA is the leader in space aeronautics, exceeding even Russia's and China's programs.

  • (2) Space and aviation are NOT related to American culture and values. Most people in America aren't actually interested in NASA or even the study of the universe, which is a sad thought. I only wish the majority of Americans paid greater attention to the pursuit of knowledge out of the prospect of advancing mankind. Furthermore, American culture is founded on the principles of individuality, freedom, tolerance, and the pursuit of happiness; in effect, "culture" varies on an individual basis.

  • (3) Firstly, space exploration is beneficial to Mankind for purely sentimental reasons. Sure, exploring and searching for life on other worlds may not cure cancer, end wars, or even fix daily problems and frustrations, but it is the desire of Mankind to stretch farther out, to explore, and to learn more about the universe. If Mankind was limited to just Earth, how can we progress ourselves if we don't struggle pass our limitations.

  • (3 cont.) If we don't explore and colonize other worlds, how can we face solve overpopulation and global warming, two major problems that threaten the human race? It is in the pursuit of science and salvation that we explore the space around us, it is simply a natural desire for humans to expand our boundaries. Space exploration does not create as high a financial burden as fighting wars and funding national health care reform seem to do. So the financial demand of space exploration is minimal.

  • 1) America sets alot of milestones in space more then any other country so they are allover the media most of the time leading to this sort of association also because of albert einstien and his work.

    2) because powered flight was invented in america by the wright brothers another reason why people associate america's culture with flight and space. Space because of the manned moon missions by NASA also because of the large aircraft industries like Boeing,Lockheed,Cessna, etc

  • I was born in 73 and I wish that I was old enough to be part of the experience.

I think the wonder has gone out of science and that is why many people are attracted to absurd tales of wires and flags waving.

Anyone that finds this as stunning as I do should take a moment and engage with a moon hoaxer or two. A genuine understanding should chase away notions of fakery.

    Thanks NASA.

  • One small step for man... And one big leap for man kind! =)

  • And they say were not number 1, jealous much world. XP

  • @chucknorris678

Maybe you forgetting that you missed: first person, first satellite, first to the moon with a thing, first orbit, first animal etc etc

  • I saw the land on the mood, it was something to see on TV. Everyone was watching and rooting them on. It was a victory that everyone was talking about for day's. Joke and admirer were in amazed something could happen in our time in history. It's really meant progress for U.S.

  • This Fake!

  • Why is this fake? Because you believe some crank says it is? are you all experts on the missions? space and the moon? why fake 6 good missions and a near screw up? doesn't make sense to fake it 6 times! Not everything is a faked yeah I don't think Oswald was alone in killing JFK and the only inside job on 9'11 was the lack of co-operation between the FBI and the CIA and bush was warned that that it might happen. They landed on the moon and 12 people can verify that! plus all the staff at NASA

  • NASA are liar!

  • what is the name of this movie? is true it?

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Can't wait till we're back on the moon again!!!

  • What a Great Moment !!!

  • I'm always awestruck by these images... These men are true heroes!!

  • There has been all this talk about how the moon landing was faked, etc. So why hasn't NASA released photos taken by Hubble of the landing site(s) to put this issue to rest? That's my question and I think it's a really good question.

  • Comment removed

  • Hubble does not have the resolution to see the landing sites. BUT the LRO just took pictures, they were released a few days ago. Do a google search for "LRO lunar lander images" it is pretty amazing.

  • thanks for mentioning that, i just watched it, the pictures by the LRO are awsome

  • People who believe it was a fake wouldn't trust photos from NASA or any photos for that matter they want to believe that it was a lie and short of sending them to the moon to see for them selves your really wouldn't change their belief

Also I'm pretty sure NASA has better things to do

  • true i gave up trying their claims are stupid and when you give them evidence they say its a lie dumbasses i tell you

  • I would like to wish you a happy 40th anniversary of the first man to walk on the moon!!!!!

  • Oh such a nice video...makes my heart melt!

  • W. Cronkite.

    RIP.

  • Was that Cronkite rubbing his hands?

    RIP.....

  • Yes that was Walter Cronkite who took his glasses off and rubbed his hands. He was a very big space enthusiast.

  • hahaha,yeah,right.

  • Small step for a man , big step for humanity

  • Great Video! No matter how many times you see the Moon landing footage it's still breathtaking.

  • Whenever there is a phenomenal event, I wait for the naysayers to churn out an obligatory conspiracy "theory". It is a foregone conclusion that this will happen, and it is curious to see them hop on the bandwagon. They usually consider themselves to be free thinkers, but they are just prisoners of their own cynicism. The lunar landings were Mankind's greatest achievements, and it is a pity to see people deny themselves the truth.

  • =D MOON!

  • makes me feel proud to be an American!

    =)

  • "We came in peace for all mankind". It makes me feel proud to be part of than mankind. At least this time ;)

  • =D!!!

  • spectacular!! ;)

  • He he, always some loser from another less technically advanced country that thinks the moon landing was a fake. Why these losers think its so impossible to land on the moon is beyond me. I wonder if they think planes that travel in the sky with 500 people on board are fake, or personal digital phones that allow you to talk to someone 1000s of miles away are fake too. HELLO airheads.

  • Well done!

  • keep your nose out of our business...we were there....but we threw out some old tapes.....keep your nose out got it hunh?

  • btw... For those who push the 'but the flag is waving in a vacuum!' nonsense... NASA went out of their way to make a special, spring loaded flagstaff to accomplish just that.

I've always seen it as a piece of typically over-the-top American flag worship, but, whether you think its silly or cool, its a big spring in the horizontal member that makes that sucker wave. In a vacuum, there's nothing but inertia to stop it. It could have waved for hours before running out of wobble.

  • Most moon landing deniers come from recent generations where digital manipulation of images and sound is commonplace. Up until the early 80's all manipulation of images was done manually using razor blades, paintbrushes and other stone age tools. At 25 frames per second, any video footage generates vast amounts of consecutive still pictures, every one of which would have to have been 'fixed'.

In the 1960's it would literally have been easier to go to the moon than to fake so much footage of it.

  • you can't trick us sir....bernus take a look into the mirror....do you really believe that Big foot was real sir hunh?

  • Egad! I knew I was ugly, but I've never been compared to Bigfoot!

Maybe its my shy, retiring nature. No wonder I have trouble attracting women. Sigh.

  • Also we send space shuttles up regularly so why would it be so far fetched to think we went to the moon? Its all pretty much the same thing space and the moon there all close together !

  • The Earth's magnetosphere protected the astronauts journey to the moon from solar winds. Russia didn't take Earth's magnetic activity into consideration, but American scientists did. There is a pause in the astronauts speaking because it takes a few seconds for the transmissions to reach earth and then a few more seconds for a reply to go back to the astronauts thereafter. As for the "crosses brushed out from the skies" and "upside down images," I don't really know what you're talking about.

  • What is the matter with kids nowadays that werent alive to watch the landings and think it was fake. They must be the DUMMEST generation that ever lived in the history of our human race !! Lolol

  • im sad i didnt get to see it live... mabye in my lifetime i will get to see the next moon or mars landing

  • I did watch it live. It wasn't until Apollo 14 til we got a good view of it.

  • I was definitely "around", watching this on our TV. It was my daughter's 1st birthday (the day before) and we had her party on the 20th. We have an 8 mm movie of her toddling around in her birthday finery, next to the TV, which showed the men walking on the moon!!

  • We weren't alive when it happened. What can you say for those who were?

  • Stupide !

  • Hmm.. they supposedly spent $200k restoring the video but the result is hardly an improvement from the originals

  • Will you idiots crawl back under your rock

  • They havent gone back to the moon as it is far far too expensive. The technology is there but money is more wisely spent fixing problems on earth first. In the 60s there was a Cold War space race and was a strategic necessity to spend any anll money possible to secure the moon for America before the Russians.

  • and always the excuse that you/they miss the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A spaceship costs a lot more than a Lamborghini.

  • more than 100 times

  • HELLO CIAO ,But I I say but because in 40 years they are not returned us with the technology of today it know to say me! !!!!!!!!!!!???????????????

  • You must be STUPID if you think this never happend ! You probably believe that Elvis is still alive, and that the earth is flat and that Michael Jackson is still alive and that Holocaust never happend. The Moon landings were the GREATEST ACHIEVMENT OF HUMANKIND up til that time. You cant fake major events in World history like WW1 or WW2 or the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Or JFK getting shot - ITS NOT POSSIBLE !!!!!!! SO PLEASE BELIEVE ME - IT WAS TRUE IT DID HAPPEN - OK !!

  • They landed on the moon 40 years ago with the technology you have in your cellphone, why havent they gone back?

  • They landed on the moon with the technology you have in a $2 calculator.

  • Politics and money. They put all their money that congress gave them into the space shuttle, hubble telescope, Mars explorers. Voyagers etc...

  • NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, has sent back its first images of Apollo lunar landing sites. The agency will release the images Friday, July 17, at noon and hold a teleconference at 2 p.m. EDT to discuss the photos and future plans for the LRO mission.

  • Cool, thanks for that info

  • yeah, sure, if it was a fake, why the Soviets (remember, this was in times of the cold war) didn´t say anything???? Do you really beleive they would´nt say something, yoou know, thay have satellites and telescopes....

  • _|_ this is for your mother :)

  • I remember watching Armstrong take his first steps on the Moon. I was 12, and felt so proud to be living in a country that could do such an impossible trip, possible.

I recall listening to those on TV discussing our trip to Mars that would happen in 12 years or so.

And, I have never gotten over the disappointment of watching our space program dwindle into one resembling a hi-tech trucking service.

We are a species of explorers. It's time for man to return to exploring the stars!

  • I didn't live to witness the lunar landing myself, but watching a forty year old video of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon sent chills down my spine, putting tears to my eyes. It is a remarkable achievement to reach the stars, I only wish we spent as much time and effort now as we did in the past to achieve even more.

  • I did witness the landing on the moon, and walking on the moon. I was 10 years old at the time. It was very exciting, and yet very disappointing at the same time. The excitement was of course seeing man walk on the moon. The disappointment was the televison view was terrible. You could hardly tell whhat you were looking at. The contrast was terrible, plus we had an old black & white TV that also had problems with contrast which made it worse.

  • I feel your pain. If I was in your position, waiting earnestly for the first view of a man walking on the moon's surface, I too would be pretty disappointed if the view wasn't good. NASA is in the process of sending astronauts to Mars. When that happens, if at all, I will go out and buy an LD flat screen TV, at least three feet diagonal, and I will witness man's first step on another planet LIVE with my own two eyes. Well, "live" in the sense that it would be delayed by 10 minutes or so.

  • Yes the picture was bad. Then we were promised that the picture would be better for Apollo 12 and be in color. But then on of the Astronauts pointed the camera at the Sun, ruining the camera. No video on the moon surface for Appllo 12. So I then waited for Apollo 13. Nope, not gonna happen. Near tragedy in space. No moon landing at all. Finally Apollo 14 we got good color video of man walking on the moon.

  • Well, at least the apollo 14 mission turned out okay. I'm sure the wait was worth it.

  • Yes it was worth it. But there was some disappointment too. Even though it was in color, it still looked like it was in black&white because there is really no color but gray on the moon and black sky. WE were told that they would soon be sending man to Mars. But because of budget cuts that never happened. Viking landers on Mars came in 1976. That was great, it had color. It looked completely different than expected. They expected a dark blue sky, instead got a bright orange pink sky. my old mag

  • It's amazing how we are still surprised by the things we see in the universe. Venus was thought to be a wet, swampy place, one in which life thrived more than it would on Earth. Surprisingly, when the Russians and Americans landed on the surface, they found a very hot, dry, and desert like planet, one upon which life could not possibly exist. By the way, do you watch the Cosmos with Carl Sagan? All this talk about Mars and the moon, and now Venus is making me want to watch more episodes.

  • Yep, no canals on Mars They thought they might see some plant life on Mars, but very dessert place. Yes, Cosmos is one of my favorites. I watched all the episodes when they first came out. I even have the book.

  • ha, yeah I remember that episode. As a child I loved watching the reruns of the Cosmos on PBS. My dad recorded every episode on VHS and I would watch them on a daily basis. It inspired and put me in awe so much, that's why astronomy is one of my favorite hobbies. I'm watching them all over again on youtube. It is still fascinating now as it was when I watched it nearly 14 years ago.

  • I haven't watched Cosmos it quite some time now. But I am still interested in astronomy. I do tend to watch more recent science programs that have new discoveries that we did not know about during Cosmos program. I also found out that Buzz Aldrin is coming to my town to sign books. I think it would be cool to shake hands with someone who was on the moon.

  • MY GOD!!!!!! That is AWESOME!!!!! You actually have the chance to see Buzz Aldrin. I wish I was living in your town!!!

  • Yes. It won't be until October 9. He will be scheduled to be here in Nashville. I found something you may be interested in. This guy from youtube is on his way to California. A sight seeing trip along the way. He has a model plane with remote control camera on it. He is posting his trip on youtube. Under the name beautyintheuniverse, also known as thunderfoot. It has some astronomy in it, but mostly his trip. search Jovian system looks about as big as the moon..That is begining.

  • Yeah, I know about thunderfoot. I watch all his videos and I subscribe to him. But I haven't heard of Beauty in the Universe, though. I'll look it up. Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

  • You know, it's sad to think that the last truly ambitious thing mankind has done happened 40 years ago.

At the time this happened, just think of what people imagined 2009 to be like. The possibilities were endless. We'd probably have colonized the moon, mars if not more by 2009, discovered alien races, have flying cars, floating buildings etc etc etc.

Now think about how we, in 2009, imagine 2049 to be. I don't think a whole lot different than now, honestly. Where has our drive gone? :-(

  • @Adeon55 away with laders like bush, clinton, and Obama

  • Russians landed on Venus with a probe, two if I rememeber correctly but the Americans didn't they set their sites on Mars which turned out to be lucky for them since the harsh atmosphere of Venus corroided the USSR probes. you should check out the BBC programs on the planets they're pretty good

  • I do have the "Planets" on DVD (the BBC production that is). I also have the "Universe" on DVD (history channel production).

  • These are the times that you feel good about being an American. God bless this country.

  • god bless mankind

  • The special effects remind me of "Bunnies in Space".

  • 10 more years and the top secret files will be available to people :) (yes i am talking about aliens). People made so many stories about it :) who knows, maybe its true.

  • So many people say that this was no true that this was a montage!!! but bullshit!!!!... all that was real!!!! te man did got to step on the moon!!!!.. what a beautifull video!!!!!!

  • .. name of the music? (:

  • oh my god a piece of history right here

  • Look at what we have acheived... from taking small steps to leaping through evolution!

  • amazing!!!!

  • A truely amazing and inspiring day for mankind.

  • sheesh, 40 years already? makes me feel old

  • me too. I was a kid watching this in Florida!

  • I am in the same boat, but at least we lived in a time we got to see it.

  • I was a small child that time Aldrin and Armstrong reached the Moon. I watched it on TV, remember pushing my head against the railing of my bed just to see the images clearly as these giants walk down to the surface of something I can only see on the sky. It became one of my childhood's strongest memory. I'm very happy I could see and experience this event myself with the help of TV.

  • so ur dead now?

  • This was one gigant leap for mankind.

It is a shame that it stop - moon programm.

We would have space bases up there by now.

  • Muy bueno!!
