@danielforquer i feel alan parson's pain and your pain too! i have a cat that feels like a brother who got put down last year 4-23-11 .... R.I.P Oren Year found: 1996 Death Year 2011
This song always makes me cry...I always think of my best friend,Shane, who died 3 years ago. He was like a brother to me,but he died in the hospital after a bad car crash.I cried even harder than his parents,he was the only one who was actually there for me when I was attacked by bullies. I still cry about this to this day...yesterday was the 3 year anniversary since he died.
Why this song was not a major hit when it first came out is beyond me. And why it was not rediscovered and used as a tribute song after the attacks of September 11, 2001 is TOTALLY beyond me. No song would have fit the day and time better than this. Around the 2:30 mark, long before I saw this video, as I would listen to the song I could replay in my mind the second plane hitting the second WTC as people on a nearby street at street level look up in awe and bewilderment.
This song reminds me of the family and friends I have lost, its a tribute to the lives they lived and just how much I miss them daily. As a recent cancer survivor it also has personal meaning...makes me appreciate every day and live life to the fullest. Life is just too short and the ones we love the most are gone before their time. Live life with no regrets and do not forget to let loved ones know how much they are loved often.
My dad told me today, that this was the song he was listening to in the car when he drove back home after he found out that his younger brother died - it made me cry!!! - I miss my uncle and sometimes still cant believe he's gone! - also when that happened a long time ago...
I cried my eye out ween I first time I hear this song...Caz its everything I said & everything I feet ween my big brother Justin was killed in a car crashe, He was only 23, I was 13...I still dream about hem & then cry ween I wack up caz I know he gone...It's really haed to wack up see ur brother's happy face every day & then wack up one day & its gone...The day he was killed, I looked up to heaven & said "Plz wait for me Just..." I miss hem more then anything & I would take his place if I could
Beautiful, powerful, and tragic song. This got me thinking about the goodness and "evil" of men, In nature I truly believe that humans are good, but easily corrupted and manipulated. But when pain and injustice are done toward us, we will most often respond with the same tools. And I believe this brings a cycle of misdeeds. We tend to pay more attention to all the bad things that happen rather than all the good (the news is an excellent example of this). I have much to learn about being human.
Coincidence...? my brother died suddenly just over 2 years ago and i have recently just finished copying his complete collection of vynal and come across a single by parsons.....and liked it so much
went to the internet to find more of him. the first track i found wasbrother up in heaven ..................A great song beautiful lyric but im gutted by this wierd experience. See you again oneday Mark.
I'm not confused. I know what this song is about really. It's the images it brings to me. My dad was in 3 wars,WWII,Korea, and Vietnam. His brother , my uncle, was turned down for physical reasons. He died at 45 in New York City. The look on my Dad's face when he got the phone call is something I will never forget.
It's just my interpretation of this wonderful song.
I think this song was made for my dad. His brother passed away at 45. They were black and blonde headed like the boys in the video. The woman represents to me his wife who feels his pain and loss of his brother much the way my mother did when his only brother died. The man in the video could easily been my father.
You all talk about the beauty of this song but don't forget the singer's voice. It's Neil Lockwood's powerful, sweet, wonderful, amazing VOICE. Just GREAT. I love his voice.
Definately. Alan Parsons is definately one of my favorites. I just uploaded my first skydiving video and put their song fall free in it. You should check it out. Its a great song.
Your cousin is Ian Bairnson? I love his guitar work over the years with Alan as well as his work with Al Stewart. Time Passages and Year Of The Cat are two of my favorites by him. Ian wrote a beautiful song. My hat is off to him.
"When I dream, we're all back together, when I wake he's gone" always have a very deep effect on me, guess it relates very well to many experiences in life. Been listening to APP since i'm 10, (16 now) and it has always been my favorite group, enourmous voices and synth play.
I lost my dearest friend in Amsterdam yesterday. Turkish Airlines airliner crash landed right before runway and 3 pilot and 6 of passenger died instantly. He was one of the pilots on board...He died while he was saving others. Rest in peace. This was one of my favorite songs but now it has a real meaning. thanks for sharing this. I miss him so much.
A wonderful song written by Ian Bairnson, whose guitar has been an important element in The Alan Parsons Project. The lyrics are very deep and remind us that our life is fragile and should be holy. 5 Stars. Fer
This song was written by Ian Bairnson in dedication to his cousin who was killed in 1994. If I understood him correctly when he spoke about it at a concert, his cousin was one of the 26 people killed onboard the 2 Blackhawk helicopters which were shot down by friendly fire in the No-fly zone of Iraq.
I lost 2 very good friends over North Vietnam (F-4 RIO & A-4 Pilot). While I have gotten considerably older, they will remain to me very young and very proud aviators.
No doubt. This has to be my favorite of ALL the APP CDs. "Blown by the Wind" is the best rocking instrumental with JFK's voice in it announcing the space program.
I also recommend watching Ron Howard's "In the Shadow of the Moon" DVD if you like space stories/interesting documentaries. Ron really does the topic justice.
Technically, it's not an APP. By Alan's own admission in several interviews, the Projects were things he collaborated on with Eric Woolfson.
And, I agree, I just love the "I believe this nation should commit itself..." JFK speech excerpt announcing the Apollo program in the song Apollo. Great driving song. Nice emotional recovery after this one wants to make you cry.
my friend posted this song after my dad died on dec 1 st and it makes me cry...

KorriCee: Eric was Ian's cousin. If you're Eric's nephew, you're not Ian's cousin, right? And it's Alan Parsons, not Allan Parson's...
But yes, this song was written by Ian Bairnson for his cousin Eric, who died in 1994 in Iraq as a peacekeeper force.
Stupid, pointless petrol wars...
