Loved it, while in the Navy I discovered W. Carlos and the Moog and added this album to my collection of Berlin Symphonies. It really mellowed me out dealing with the pressures of having an NCO barking at you or some twerp thinking that he's in charge. On the other end nothing got me going like Jethro Tull and all the other "Headbangers" did. Thanks for the memories!
Now going through my record collection to find my Carlos. I was well impressed by his versions when I first discoverd the record back in the seventies. At first held the ground for old school, then listened more carefully, such depth. Bach would have used this instrutment to great effect. At time did try my hand at the Moog keyboard recording and found how hard it was at the time to create any sounds (trying to write more disco pop minded tunes)
@johnanzalone6 Yeah, this is definitely from the first *Switched On Bach* album: I have on vinyl. Yep, definitely the original version (on a Moog synthesizer, that is...).
I'm old now but when I was 20, in 1954, I was engaged to a guy who built one in his
apartment. When I heard the sounds coming from it, I began thinking that maybe he and I were not meant for each other. One of the decisions that eventually led to my breaking the engagement. I'm a classisist.
@vexx34ify I was born in 1934 too, but still don't like to think of myself as old since my Dad lived to be 90....must admit though I'm beginning to slow down!
This DOES sound very very like the original 60s "Switched-On Bach" version of (as then) Walter, now Wendy Carlos. Which is so very hard to find anywhere (well, on line). Yet I remember the effect the record had at the time ... electrifying. Truly: Something New. I remember the record sleeve, the picture on the front, everything - I was a young boy discovering classical music at the time. And suddenly everyone was listening to Switched-On Bach. Unforgettable. Was it really 1968?
a friend dropped some headphones on my ears one night and THIS was playing. I tossed all my Herb Alpert records the next day and have been a Carlos/Bach devotee ever since.
This was the (old) theme for the BBC Antiques Roadshow. Travelling around UK, a team of experts value people's stuff. How long before someone turns up with a Moog?

What a thing to do! I have many Herb Alpert records, and many Wendy Carlos records. They are both beautiful music, suitable to different moods.

closest thing to the "switched on bach" record i used to blast in the early 70's. all the music professors were secretly into it.
