cale wrote all the songs except for "three little girls", plays guitar on all the songs and shares singing with clapton, listen to "heads in georgia" and tell me which voice is who. and on "who am i telling you" you can hear how much clapton has copied his idols sound, with clapton singing the first two verses and cale the next two, as far as your next purchase, start at the beginning with his early classic "naturally" and go from there. you've got a lot of catching up to do.
I apologize in advance for my ignorance - I found Ride the River the other night by accident - ordered the CD just for that song - and got this one which I like even more. I have NEVER heard of J.J. Cale before last week, (I know, I can't believe it either), so is this J.J. singing with Clapton, or vice versa? Also who is the lead singer? Thanks - and ANY help as to my next J.J. Cale purchase would be appreciated. I am OBSESSING on this song!!!
@3technique I recommend "Anyway The Wind Blows: The Anthology" 25 songs taken from any number of his albums. A master at what he does - no ego just wonderful music making.
If this track was on an old-fashioned 33 1/3 rpm record, I would've worn out the needle and record by now. This is pure gold! (God be with you, Billy Preston, you gave it your very best right up until the end)
This has got to be one of the finest examples of Hammond organ anywhere. Subtle at first but Billy just is phenomenal. FantasticJJ Cale song and beautifully rendered by EC. But for me, Billy steals the cut, the way he ends this...OMG. I agree with everyone here...a fantastic album. I've worn out two copies. Top 10 albums of all time!.
After following both artist for decades I'm not surprised at this masterpiece, love to see them onstage in London,Billy Preston, the world is a poorer place without him, finest performance on the Concert for George in London.
Eric Clapton and JJCale...Best organ playing by the late, great Billy Preston. Too bad no video but worth listening too. Clapton on vocal, JJ Cale tune.
@Katmido302 /i learn alot from folks like yourself. did not know billy preston played the organ.saw him in the 70,s in atlanta.i love to listen to the difference in the way jj & clapton play
They always Nail It.

Emotional and at the same time extremely laid back: great song by two great artists.
By the way: Can somebody explain why JJ Cale is not recognised as one of the greatest living Rock Stars?
