In Germany it is legal to make a right turn during a red light on many intersections. They have a "special" traffic light with a green arrow which is lights up when you can turn additionally to the standard traffic light. Some intersections only have a "green arrow on a sign" mounted on the side of the traffic light.

in the Phoenix metropolitan area, they have put cameras on EVERY SINGLE INTERSECTION in EVERY CITY. I checked, they did. If you are speeding or run a red light, you get the ticket in the mail, and/or pulled over if a cop sees it and charged with whatever else they can on top of charging twice for the light.

The government will actually send tickets out to people if you are able to get their Lic. Plate in your photo. I know kinda a snitch but there is a retired guy in Taipei that rides around on his scooter catching violators on camera. He sends in the photos and makes some good side cash every month from it.

The front tire of the scooter my father-in-law was driving in Taichung blewout last week... of course like 90% of all Taiwanese he didn't have a full helmet. I'm also guessing you have fuel injection, whereas I have carburetors.

You just have to be more cautious during the first rain of the season. That's when all the oil gets brought to the surface of the street. As long as your tire treads good and you take caution over paint lines and stripes and manhole covers you'll be fine.

I really don't understand the whole no right on read thing. All you have to do is get a clear line of sight and look left. If the intersection is too dangerous, you just put a sign saying no turn on red, not make it illegal for every intersection. Here in NJ thats how it works, and it helps enormously to speed up the flow of traffic.

it's not always legal to turn right on red in the U.S.; at least in Michigan, we have signs at some intersections that say "No turn on red", and sometimes have a specific time that the sign applies to. if there is no sign though, you can turn right one red. left too if it is a one way street.

@missingparts: I know in cities like NYC and Santa Monica, it's not legal to make a right on a red light, with or without a "no turn on red" sign. and now, at least in the neighboring cities where I live, even if you have a green, you need to yeild before you make a right turn. I miss that problem. We've already had frost here in Chicago and it's been raining probably 3 or 4 days out of 7. Rain is not fun when it's in the 30s or 40s (Fahrenheit, that is). I'm not sure which is worse, though-- too hot or too cold.

30/40s aren't bad if your wearing decent wind/waterproof gear.. most textile jackets also have isolated lines. I personally don't ride in the low 30s (especially when there is a chance of rain), ice is far too likely to form.
