  • Man....a sign of things to come....what was once a great & beautiful car reduced to this!!! ...and it was still one of the best looking cars of it's time!! SAD!!!

  • Turning the Cougar into a sedan was such a disaster.

  • That cat at the end is funny. Show this ad to your kids!

  • a p.o.s. box!

  • love it.. ive got the plain jane fairmont

  • Cute kitty.

  • She does porn ?

  • holy crap how come I've never seen any of these? I want one now.

  • My '83 Mark VI gets 16 city/22 highway with the 302V8. If I believe what the tacky digital display tells me.

I believe only the full-size Ford products in 1980 had chimes instead of buzzers (Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Town Car/Mark VI)

  • @onedollarphilistine But on the 1980 Ford LTD and Mercury Marquis it was optional and even then it was only for the seatbelt reminder as far as I know.

  • It's hard to believe that the babe in the commercial is an old bag now...a real cougar, so to speak!

  • One Ugly Mercury car !!! DAMM !!

  • 34 mpg? With the 2.3 liter 4cyl a manual transmisson and they maybe sold 100 of them that year lol. Most had the 5.0 v-8 which did not get 34 mpg. Advertising you got to love it what bolonga.

  • Even with the 4 cyl, you couldn't get that kind of economy! You'd have to firewall that gas pedal to move such a heavy car. The V8 was the better choice.

  • did not see many 4 door cougars

  • 34 mpg highway yea right!!

  • lol cougar get it?

  • introducing the 1980 mercury/ford fairmont, futera, zepher, thunderbird, mustang, cougar, ltd, mustang, marquis thing Did I miss out a few or is that it lol!!!!Just like when chrysler crazy went k car crazy (That will take years to name off those nameplates)ford went fox chassis crazy too but hey it was a way to save money. I really liked the 1983 styling of the cougar and thunderbird. I owned a 84 and 86 cougar with the 5.0. Good cars and great memories

  • It was the Mercury Marquis, not Grand Marquis. The Grand Marquis was a panther frame since 1979.

  • @mastermind48451 I know I didn't write grand marquis!!!!

  • @mastermind48451 and I almost forgot the 1982 cougar station wagon!!!

  • Ugly little car, it's nothing like the first generation Cougars.

  • If that thing got 34 Hwy mpg then angles fly out of my ass.

  • Dude i love cheese..cougar cheese..

  • i grew up in this exact car. 4 door and blue. it was very cheap. i ripped all the plastic pieces off the bumpers when i was a kid. very creepy music and cheesy cut scenes!!

  • @themx83 very cheap? things break?

  • The Cougmont, YEAH!!!!!!!

  • Remember 1977? The Cougar had a 2-door, a 2-door XR-7 (which survived), a 4-door, and a 5-door Villager wagon. The name was changed from Montego. In 1981, Ford made the same mistake...changing the Monarch to a Cougar.

  • The chick is the hotest thing about this commercial. Although the car isn't so bad either for an '80.

  • I had a 81 4 door Cougar. While it came stock with a 289, there were available upgrades to a 302, which is what mine was. 30+MPG? not by the early 90's when I drove it!

  • this car had great fuel economy even before it was "cool" that cars got over 30 mpg.

  • Cougar - that was one nameplate Ford could never make its mind on! (1967 - Upscale Mustang, 1981 - Granada sedan clone, 1999 - Contour based front wheel drive hatchback)...

  • How interesting and what in the world where they thinking when they made a 4 door.

  • Actually the Thunderbird had a 4 door in the mid 60s and the cougar had a 4 door in 77-79 also

  • a fairmont with cougar badging...clever, ford sold many.

  • The ford granadas stable mate from 1981 and 1982.

  • You're thinking of the Mercury Monarch

  • No the monarch was only made up 1980 in the 81 model year the granada moved to the fox platform and all the cougars except the xr 7 became it's stable mate.

  • You don't see many early 1980s Cougar's around at all, never really saw many of them even back in the 1980s, I thought they didnt make the 4 door Cougar's until 1981.

  • This must be a Canadian commercial. It was known as 'Zephyr' in the US. My neighbor had the Ford Granada twin.

  • It was known as the "Cougar" which was based on the Granada, the "Zephyr" was based on the Fairmont

  • You are right. The cougar 4 dour was only around for two model years 81 and 82. 1982 even had a Station Wagon Model. It was replaced by the downsized Mercury Marquis. Th

  • the station wagon outsold the 4 door!

  • hello mammer 90

I would like to know if it ever existed or if you have a 1983 mercury cougar of four-doors commercial. perdon si no me entiendes muy bien pues yo no escribo muy bien el inglés.

  • 1983 Cougar 4-door sedans did not exist. The previous Cougar sedan line- along with its Ford twin, Granada- was replaced in 1983 by the "Marquis" and "LTD" 4-door sedans & wagons. These MID-SIZE lines should not be confused with the full-sized "LTD Crown Victoria"/"Grand Marquis" (which, in 1982 were known simply as "LTD" / "Marquis").. Ford's name-game remix at work. So, to totally answer your question, NO 1983 Cougar 4-door commercials, because no such car existed. Totally confused now??

  • Hello lincolnRay,

Thanks for answering my comment. I did this question because I have the cougar 1983 four-door, and I am curious to know your past, and on the internet I do not see this information. I live in colombia but this car was imported many years ago to my country and I think it is the only one here, although I have not seen an equal, but I am sure that in Venezuela there are enough of these, and my cougar 1983 four-doors was imported from Venezuela.

  • .(continuation of the previous comment)/ when I traveled to that country I have seen several of them on several occasions. if you want you can give me your mail and I can send photos of my cougar 1983 four-door so that you can see. again thank you for your comment. TE PIDO PERDON SI NO ME ENTIENDES MUY BIEN PUES YO NO ESCRIBO MUY BIEN EL INGLÉS. GRACIAS POR RESPONDER MI COMENTARIO.

  • The Cougar and Granada (pimped out Fairmonts) ran for model year 1981 and 1982 only.. Buzzer in the standard/base trim level (aka "GS")- Chimes in the luxury model (aka "LS"). Also, at the time, Mercury's idea of selling it's product was to advertise the fact that the Cougar LS' cloth interior was the same as that used in Lincoln Town Car Signature Series. Makes you forget that the base engine was an 87-hp 2.3 liter 4-banger. The car line sold respectively well, (believe it or not)

  • The Fairmont/Zephyr started it all for Ford's mainstay in the 1980's. Introduced in '78..the wheelbase got shortened 5" & became the '79 Mustang/Capri..lengthened 3" in '80 for the Tbird/Cougar XR7 coupes. '81 saw the introduction of the new Granada/Cougar... the '82 bustleback Continental..'83 mid-size LTD/Marquis (replacing the Granada/Cougar)..and in '84 the Continental Mark VII. In all, a VERY successful and profitable platform for FoMoCo. Commercial better than some of the same period.

  • remeber the Ford Fairmont...the ford version of this car. Funny 20+ years later and Mercury and Ford are still doing the same thing a Ford version and a Mercury Version aka the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan...cool vid:-) Josh

  • The Ford version of this non-XR7 Cougar was the Granada.

Ford Fairmonts and Mercury Zephyrs were similar.

  • Did the 1980 4-door Mercury Cougar come with a chime or a buzzer?

  • I have no idea.

  • Comment removed

  • Buzzer in the base (GS) model...

Chime in the luxury version (LS) model..

  • It had a buzzer not a chime tis true.

  • @Jac2Mac They didn't make the 4 door Mercury Cougar's in 1980 but they did make them with the 4 doors in 1981-82 and the wagons in 1982

  • @Doobie1975 This may have been filmed in 1980 though - keeping in mind that Ford's '1981' models began rolling off the lines in the later months of 1980.

  • @jakesaintsrow123 My friend had a 1981 Cougar XR-7 and it 'chimes' for Door Ajar and Fasten Seat Belts.
