  • To the Christian partisans of one stripe or another who want to claim this for their little group, whether it is centered in Rome or Canterbury or nowhere, Jesus didn't come so we could form parties each claiming to have the purist truth and all the good stuff. He came to save all who would repent and follow Him and all the rest is inconsequential detail. Wonderful song and great performance.

  • @lowlandpark Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and comments.

  • English translation: Where charity and love are, there God is. The love of Christ has gathered us into one flock. Let us exult, and in Him be joyful. Let us fear and let us love the living God. And from a sincere heart let us love each other (and Him). Where charity and love are, there God is. Therefore, whensoever we are gathered as one: Lest we in mind be divided, let us beware. Let cease malicious quarrels, let strife give way. And in the midst of us be Christ our God.
  • @MissMissyDeniseDenis Thank you for sharing Ms D!

  • @batlady2 no problem--thanks for posting :)

  • All you who talk about it being Anglican or Episcopal back up and regroup. Eus Catholic est! Yep we Catholics lay claim to this buddy. But hey Noone does it like Connie.

  • @alrchaplain Your claim has been noted dear Chaplain! Its a beautiful song where ever it comes from. I'm not even Catholic and I totally love it!

  • The hymn "Ubi Caritas" is translated in the Hymnal 1980 of the Episcopal Church as "Where true love and charity dwell."

  • @glvdtxn Thank you for sharing that information with us about this song. The words match the lovely sound of it.

  • @glvdtxn I find it hard for it to be Episcopal with being in Latin. The Episcopal denounces any Latin in its rites. It is a angelican religion that went away from the beliefs of the Church of England as well as the Catholic Church.Episcopal also does not believe in the prayer of saints as what is spoken in this hymn. This is 100% Gregorian 4th century Catholic prayer that was chanted all day long on Holy Thursday.

  • Brush up on your Latin. It's a Catholic hymn. That's why it makes you cry. Come home!!

  • I love this song. When my daughters were young we had a small home with a window air conditioner in our living room. On hot summer nights we would stack sleeping bags on the living room floor and fall asleep with this playing quietly...

  • @btschappat Isn't it wonderful how songs can make us re live wonderful memories like the one you just shared? I'm glad you enjoyed my video and thanks for taking the time to let me know you did.

  • This video fits perfectly with the song, very majestic. Great job!

  • @LoneChief25 Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed my video.

  • This song's like a journey to heaven.

  • @yannorene I agree!

  • Absolutely EXQUISITE!!!! Filled my heart and soul. Thank you.

  • @4EMF I'm so glad you enjoyed my video and thank you for taking the time to tell me so.

    Amen.

  • @Nymwe Thank you for sharing that translation Nymwe! The words are very beautiful.

  • @batlady2 You're welcome :) and I very much agree. Thank you too for uploading the song :)

  • Celtic? that’s medieval church Latin the last thing I associate with the proud pagan Celts.

  • This is my absolute favorite of hers. Thank you for this! <3

  • I performed this piece once and it is one of the most incredible pieces i have ever heard... I wish i could meet miss Dover. I feel blessed... Because i have a brain injury that affects many things in my daily life. For some reason however, i AM capable to remember lyrics/music (used to sing as amateur in ten languages). I have shared this at times with the hospice patients i was blessed to hold bedside vigil for/with...Such an incredible honor... Batlady2... You made me cry -- In a good way...

  • @midwife2thesoul Oh I wish Ms Dover could read this so she could see how much her gifted art means to you. This was a very nice message you sent. Thank you.

  • @batlady2 Oh that's sweet of you to say... I also love to sing her gaelic pieces - so keep the video's coming! :-) I read that you don't know what the words in this piece mean. In a way i guess that is irrelevant - because so much more is felt though heart and soul than words could ever convey. If you are curious however, check outmiss Dover's website where you can find both the Latin and English lyrics. I tried to put a link here for you but I think that YouTube mabe doesn't allow that...

  • @midwife2thesoul Yes I know what the song is about now. I just wish I had known before I made this video, if I had, I would have made it better. Now there is no way to change it unless I delete it and make a whole new one. I might do that in the future but do not have the time to now. It takes time to make these videos. But now I try to do more research before making them if I'm using songs that are in languages other than English. A lesson I learned after making this video.

  • @batlady2 I have to disagree with you on that one, my dear.

I would encourage you to keep this video just as your heart intended it.

Remember that words and music, as well as art, are all open to interpretation as anyone is willing to perceive them - there is no right or wrong...

This video already opened the hearts of many as it will continue to do.

Whatever emotion it evokes may just be what one needed to find on their path at that time.

    keep sharing your beautiful soul...

  • @midwife2thesoul I'm glad you feel that way midwife. Besides its the song and the images that make it even if they don't fit together absolutely perfect in every place in it. Maybe one day I'll make a part two video of it using the same song with other images I find. Or I'll just use another one of her songs. I love them all. But this one is my favorite.

  • @batlady2 Yes, this is my favorite too. And i so appreciate that you took the time to create your wonderful video... I feel like your videos tell a story - they are really well composed. (is that the right word - can one "compose" a video? :-) Anyway, Yesterday made a video with material from Shanti Shanti - They perform in English and Sanskrit. I don't know how to send you the video so maybe you can go to my channel? I hope you'll like it.

Be Well, Stay Safe - All Ways and Always,

    Francisca

  • I accually know Connie!

  • @fastwalker749 Tell her thank you for sharing her gift with us and please tell us when she is going to make another album or another song.

  • IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SONG FOREVER!!! I HAD IT ON A CD THAT I LISTENED TO WHEN I NEEDED TO BE CALM AND HAPPY THEN I LOST IT!!! THANK YOU FOR PUTTING IT UP!!!!!

  • 1:50.....shes Slavic! ***** :)

  • @acerb45666555 Ooops! Well she looked like a Celtic beauty to me! And her pic came up when I typed in the term "celts" in the image search.

  • @batlady2 No problem!! Im just glad noone gets into dissagreements over justin bieber and starts cursing at each other!! why couldnt everyone be so peacful and welcoming and make great vids?!!

  • @whatsyourname321 Well, to be honest, I've made some pretty controversial vids too. But these Celtic and meditation vids I make are mostly for fun and relaxation and escape. Not every one would agree with my personal political views. But I hope they won't hold those against me and just enjoy my "artsy" meditation videos. I have two play lists. One is peace and mediation vids and one is political vids. If you go to my channel you'll see both lists up at the right of the screen. All are music.

  • Thanks for

Making this!! Im no celtic or anywhere near irish and i think its beautiful!! Thanks for all the cool pics!!

  • @whatsyourname321 You are welcome! And thank you for taking the time to tell me how much you liked it!

  • Beautiful effort all round. Greetings to one and all from Mundlimup Forest. Give Logging the Chop!

  • @Jarrahnut Thank you so much Jarrah!

  • were did you find the patterns in the eye picture?

    peace

    fred

  • @fredheidrick Hi Fred! Nearly all the images I use in my vids come from the Deviant Art Web site. If you type in the word "Celtic" in their search tool all these images should come up. Also type in "eyes" or eye make up. Different terms like that. I use so many different images from D.A. that its very hard to keep track of the exact artists names. But all the art does come from there. They have tons of different "eye" images like that. Absolutely beautiful!

  • You find the lyrics (latin and english translation) on connie dover's website. Just google "connie dover".

  • @JosefRaddy Thank you very much for sharing that.

  • Actually, only the LATIN root for pagan (paganus) means "rustic" or "a country dweller". In common English, it refers to any sort of polytheistic religious belief.

This song is the farthest thing from pagan. It was originally a Gregorian hymn. Gregorians are a religious community within the Roman Catholic Church. Ubi Caritas is typically sung on Holy Thursday during the holy mass.

"Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est" = "Wherever charity and love [are], there is God"

  • @flannelflan Wherever charity and love [are], there is God". Nothing could be more true than that.

  • Lovely, evocative, and passionate. Thanks for creating this. I have no idea what the words mean either, but the art you chose certainly seems to fit the sound.

Thanks for your comments on our DVD. I included two other songs by Connie on the DVD, plus from the rest of us at Lawrence Scottish Fest, so I'll post more videos soon.

  • @LCarterDotCom Share as many Connie Dover videos as you can. Its a treat for we out here who just absolutely love the sound of her beautiful voice. She sounds like what I imagine an angel's voice to sound like.

  • @LCarterDotCom I watched it! OMG it was FANTASTIC! Thanks for sharing it with me. I've subscribed to your channel and sent you a friend invite because you shared that. I LOVE Connie Dover. I messed this particular video montage up on this song though because I did not get the English translation before i made it so the images don't go with what the song is about. But any way, this song breaks me up in pieces no matter how any times I listen to it because of the way she sings it.

  • i'm learning this song it's amazingly beautiful

  • @pookiebayrock Yes its such a great song. It gives me chills its so beautiful

  • Totally awesome video, loved it! Found on search that in 597 Pope Gregory instructed that pagan sites be converted to churches .. impossible to know how many. Same article that pagan is derived from Latin meaning a 'country dweller'. Different search I found that 'Celtic Polytheism" refers to religious practices of ancient Celtic people prior to Christianisation.

  • @Gretchen785 Wow! Thank you so much for that great feed back and all that information you found about the history of all of this Gretchen! I always thought the word Pagan meant believing in nature or mythical gods instead of the one singular God. "Country dweller" is far from that meaning. We learn something new every day here on YouTube.

  • It's actually a Hymn of the Western Church, way back from the 4th Century.

  • This is a Christian song why all the pagan images?

Ubi caritas is a hymn of the Western Church, long used as one of the antiphons for the washing of feet on Maundy Thursday. The Gregorian melody was composed sometime between the fourth and tenth centuries,

  • @Gimmer3 Yes I already acknowledged that in messages further on down. The song is in a language I did not understand and I just put images to what I felt as I heard the music. The sound. Sorry. I did not mean to offend any Christians when I made this video.

  • @batlady2 , its OK its just that its a favorite of mine and the translation is so beautiful. You did not offend me I just did not understand. It's my fault for not reading down the comments.

  • @Gimmer3 Its okay Gimmer no worries.

  • @Gimmer3 It is such a beautiful song is'nt it? When i first heard it I had no idea what the words meant but the way she was singing them, It brought tears to my eyes. Still does sometimes when I listen to it.

  • Yes, it is but part of it is Connie Dover she really puts a very special mark on this song. Listen to some of the other versions on YouTube, they do not all give you that wonderful emotional feeling. I have other versions I love but Connie's version is my favorite. I find it very moving this is used on Maundy Thursday traditionally . That would be that bitter sweet moment when Jesus and his followers knew something very monumental was about to happen and they broke bread together..

  • @Gimmer3 I did go back and look for other versions of this song in here but none of them sounded any thing like this to me. But after someone translated this song to me and told me what it was about I thought it even more beautiful. Some day I'm going to take this video down and remake it. Its on my list of things to do. After this video I made sure that I learned the English translations of every other song I use in my vids that are in foreign languages BEFORE I make vids out of them.

  • @batlady2 , I found one I liked last night but still it was not as moving as Connie Dover's version. There is a universal truth to this song and you and I are on the same page. Our Creator has touched our hearts through this music. Peace.

  • I`ve never heard something like this..... angels voice.

  • Thank you for posting this song and to Kinsland47 for giving the translation. Connie Dover has the lyrics on her web site but not the translation. A little bit of heaven on earth.

  • You are very welcome and thank you for taking the time to give me your feed back.

  • Well for those less religious amongst us, thank you, I've been looking for something like this for some time, the imagery and music are sublime. If this 4th c hymn is sung in a modern format and has been coupled with some modern images then fabulous! I am Scottish and miss my homeland, this just seems to be perfect to me as is....Thank you so much for posting x

  • @MizzSefronia you are very welcome and thank you for taking the time to tell me what you thought of it. I love you Scots so much. All things Celtic. No music is more beautiful nor any people more inspiring. I am always reading faery tales and romance novels all about Scotland. Can't get enough of it. Thanks again.

  • This is a most sacred Catholic hymn, from the 4th century. And as you now know, it starts off defining the qualities of humanity that indicate the presence of God. It has nothing to do with the supernatural or the pagan. And I welcome your admission that perhaps some of your imagery is not verily appropriate. Perhaps, you should re-edit the sung to images that compliment the hymn's sentiments. That said, I am overjoyed that this hymn has touched you. Pax tecum: peace be with you.

  • Thank you Med for all your positive feed back. I am thinking about remaking this video and just deleting this one. Its on my list of things to do. Its a beautiful song that deserves the right imagery to go a long with it. I wish I had kept it in my Imovie but I don't have it any more so editing it now is impossible. I'll just have to re make it.

  • 3. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.

    Simul quoque cum beatis videamus,

    Glorianter vultum tuum, Christe Deus:

Gaudium quod est immensum, atque probum,

    Saecula per infinita saeculorum. Amen.

    3. Where charity and love are, God is there.

And may we with the saints also,

See Thy face in glory, O Christ our God:

The joy that is immense and good,

Unto the ages through infinite ages. Amen.

  • 2. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.

Simul ergo cum in unum congregamur:

    Ne nos mente dividamur, caveamus.

    Cessent iurgia maligna, cessent lites.

Et in medio nostri sit Christus Deus.

    2. Where charity and love are, God is there.

As we are gathered into one body,

Beware, lest we be divided in mind.

Let evil impulses stop, let controversy cease,

And may Christ our God be in our midst.

  • 1. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.

Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor.

    Exultemus, et in ipso iucundemur.

    Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum.

Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.

1.Where charity and love are, God is there.

Christ's love has gathered us into one.

Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him.

Let us fear, and let us love the living God.

And may we love each other with a sincere heart.

  • Beautiful words. Thank you for sharing that translation. Now I see some of my Celtic pagan images may not have been the right choice for this particular song. (oops!)
