Wow, that is eerie all three died early. Also rather eerie that sports anchor Tim Weigel who worked in the same studio as Gene Siskel in Chicago also died of brain cancer shortly after Siskel.
I like a lot of shows for different reasons and think several are greatest in their own niche, but over all greatest show, it's hard to argue against the Larry Sanders Show.
This is one of the greatest show on television ever. Rip Torn was born in Temple, Texas and my Mother watched him play on the porch of his house when he was a young boy. I asked her if she had a clue that he would be famous and she said "He was just a little boy playing on the front porch."
Siskel was great here. Gradepoint, The Larry Sanders Show is one of the best comedies in the history of television, IMHO. They're all posted on youtube. Type in "Larry01" for the first episode.
That's sad. They'd been posted since 2006. I have another recommendation. There's a show you may not have heard of called "Made in Canada." It's a satire about a film/television production company in Canada. It's deeply cynical and very funny. The first six episodes are posted on youtube. For some reason you have to type in "Made in Canada Mercer" for those episodes to come up. "Mercer" is Rick Mercer, the star and creator of the show.
Skin Deep was a very good movie.

It's a little weird that Siskel, Ritter, and the musical guest from this episode, Warren Zevon, all died prematurely. Kind of eerie.

Poor lighting in this episode. Were the lighting people on strike?
catholicpriest1 11 months ago
@catholicpriest1 No. Hank had them at the Look Around Cafe doing the lighting there.

@konatown5 Sounds like Hank...it's all about Hank.

This ep has more great lines than any half hour of television ever:
"Ever since you've gone on Slim Fast I'm powerless." (Elizabeth Ashley was a ubiquitous presence on tv at the time in Slim Fast ads.)
"What's your name?"
"Adam Loderman, Triger Agency."
"Shut the fuck up!"
"Is there a dog on the show?"
"Ashley, Ritter, Siskel, Zevon ... no dog."
And the "kick you in the nuts" line, of course, and about a dozen others. Brilliant.

"Hey, cut the Chicago crap." I love Siskel! He would've made a terrific actor, I'm sure.
