Well that's to be expected when you have professional actors playing convicts. The minor characters or extras usually looked a lot tougher that the primary characters (like Ross) because these guys were usually stunt men by trade who did a little acting on the side. Or they were just thug looking types who were limited to those types of roles and were not given a lot of lines. Pancamo of course was the exception.

If you mean in the context of the show though, I think Vern could usually beat him but Beecher was pissed off and hopped up on adrenaline because of all the abuse he took. Plus, both of his attacks were kinda cheap shots (though effective).
