Amidst the wonderful instrumental composition in many of her songs you have this absurd, chaotic vocal work that totally defies what we want and expect to hear in music. For me the artistic value lies in the lyrics (where appropriate) and in the raw and primal sound of her vocals.as they shred preconceptions and safety.

I'm not sure what Yoko has done to influence other artists, at least in the sphere of music. Then again, one man's garbage is another man's treasure. John always claimed Yoko came up with ideas for a certain type of sound long before the B-52s (and others). Of course, I think the B-52s obviously liked being connected with the Lennons when they heard this remark. There is a good commentary of this Lennon-Berry performance somewhere on youtube by shock-jock Howard Stern.

@fidelvis John Lennon bought his aunt Harriet Stanley Birch (+ her husband Norman) a house; I want to guess it was around '73 and that she died in '76). I read that years later (I believe in the early 1990s), Yoko learned John kept the deed in his name; thus the house now belonged to Yoko. She tried to evict Norman from the house. When the British press got a hold of this, she dropped her efforts cause of the bad press. But she still kept it in her name.
Yoko haters should really get a life. Learn how to appreciate avant-garde before you bash it. Not only that, but you should really do a little research on Yoko's life before John. She's had a tough life, full of hardships.
As far as avant-garde goes, she's really a wonderful artist. She has influenced many mainstream artists. I have a great deal of respect and love for her.
Also, let's not forget that she's had no less than 14 hit singles in the U.S, 8 of which debuted in the 10.

@fidelvis You are right in that Yoko is the cause of why so many people hate her. She has stuck her foot in her mouth on many an occasion. I remember when Paul had some memorial tribute for Linda in New York (like he had for her in England). He didn't invite Yoko because of some mean-spirited comment she allegedly made....something along the lines of calling Paul a Machiavelli and that John was (in Machiavellian style) Paul's victim. I didn't quite understand it, but I know it pissed off Paul.

@fidelvis I wanted to point out that while I love the music of L&M, I know that Paul was no saint. There are instances where he could be a total asshole to John + Yoko. If Wikipedia is to be believed, when John received the music to the Rutles movie, he loved it; but he also warned they should be careful with "Get up and go" because it sounded too much like Get back and that they could possibly face a lawsuit from Paul. Paul seemed to be the only one with an attitude in regards to the movie.

@CompleatBeatles Why was Yoko's life tough? I thought she came from a fairly well-to-do Japanese family? I admit I'm no scholar on the life and times of Yoko Ono. But I think a lot of the criticism she has suffered has been her own fault. I could cite numerous examples, such as her insistence on Double Fantasy that every other song be hers (originally one side was going to be John, and the other side was going to be Yoko, but she knew nobody would listen to the other side).

Yer I saw that clip, Yoko was fussing around Chuck helping him put on his guitar and adjusting the strap you could see Chuck's body language whilst this was going on it was screaming"Get the Fuck outta my face bitch' !!! Almost as insulting was Lennon's solo during ' Johnny be good' it was pathetic. While you may be right in that Yoko's public image grew and she became widely known because of Lennon, I didn't know who the artist behind the music I was listening to and liking was, then I found out it was Yoko. Lennon had no part to play in WHY I like her music, only in that I was able to, by chance, discover her work.

@MrIhateconnie I agree her vocal stuff can't really be considered 'good singing', and some of her howling is indeed dreadful but that's part of what I like. Amidst the wonderful instrumental composition in many of her songs you have this absurd, chaotic vocal work that totally defies what we want and expect to hear in music. For me the artistic value lies in the lyrics (where appropriate) and in the raw and primal sound of her vocals.as they shred preconceptions and safety.

She has no musical voice(sounds like a cat screaming), and she ruined every concert she was invited to by John. Especially when she came into the studio,no one wanted her there(except John) and her contribution was negative and frustrating for everyone(Number 9 was the only worthless song on the white Album). Somehow she bewitched poor John who later had an early death-Shame!

I'm not sure what Yoko has done to influence other artists, at least in the sphere of music. Then again, one man's garbage is another man's treasure. John always claimed Yoko came up with ideas for a certain type of sound long before the B-52s (and others). Of course, I think the B-52s obviously liked being connected with the Lennons when they heard this remark. There is a good commentary of this Lennon-Berry performance somewhere on youtube by shock-jock Howard Stern.

@fidelvis John Lennon bought his aunt Harriet Stanley Birch (+ her husband Norman) a house; I want to guess it was around '73 and that she died in '76). I read that years later (I believe in the early 1990s), Yoko learned John kept the deed in his name; thus the house now belonged to Yoko. She tried to evict Norman from the house. When the British press got a hold of this, she dropped her efforts cause of the bad press. But she still kept it in her name.

Yoko haters should really get a life. Learn how to appreciate avant-garde before you bash it. Not only that, but you should really do a little research on Yoko's life before John. She's had a tough life, full of hardships.
As far as avant-garde goes, she's really a wonderful artist. She has influenced many mainstream artists. I have a great deal of respect and love for her.
Also, let's not forget that she's had no less than 14 hit singles in the U.S, 8 of which debuted in the 10.

@fidelvis You are right in that Yoko is the cause of why so many people hate her. She has stuck her foot in her mouth on many an occasion. I remember when Paul had some memorial tribute for Linda in New York (like he had for her in England). He didn't invite Yoko because of some mean-spirited comment she allegedly made....something along the lines of calling Paul a Machiavelli and that John was (in Machiavellian style) Paul's victim. I didn't quite understand it, but I know it pissed off Paul.

@fidelvis I wanted to point out that while I love the music of L&M, I know that Paul was no saint. There are instances where he could be a total asshole to John + Yoko. If Wikipedia is to be believed, when John received the music to the Rutles movie, he loved it; but he also warned they should be careful with "Get up and go" because it sounded too much like Get back and that they could possibly face a lawsuit from Paul. Paul seemed to be the only one with an attitude in regards to the movie.

@CompleatBeatles Why was Yoko's life tough? I thought she came from a fairly well-to-do Japanese family? I admit I'm no scholar on the life and times of Yoko Ono. But I think a lot of the criticism she has suffered has been her own fault. I could cite numerous examples, such as her insistence on Double Fantasy that every other song be hers (originally one side was going to be John, and the other side was going to be Yoko, but she knew nobody would listen to the other side).

What does having a tough life have to do with wretched music? John, Paul, George and Ringo had tough lives too, but that didn't take away their musical talent. Yucko was a terrible mother; she abandoned her daughter when she shacked up with John. She is a home wrecker and one of the ugliest women I've had the misfortune to look at.
