City life ain't all its cracked up to be, specially if your whole life is spent in the country. It's so easy to just become part of the faceless crowd, you lose your identity. Going from the country to the city just changes a body, and it's hard to get back to it once you move.
When I was young, I wanted to move away and make big money. Now , I would rather stay close to my family and roots. This song brings a tear to my eye. Money doesn't bring happiness.
My 19 year old son told me he's moving 10 hours away- 600 miles. He's never been out of a 50 mile radius of his home and he thinks LIttle Rock is where its at. Im his father scared to death for him. He has no idea what he is getting into. Pry the most tough thing I've ever had to do, give my only child to the world. I just hope they take care of him.....
@dannyd1572 How sweet are you. I have a 16yr old daughter so I understand completely. Hope your son knows how lucky he is to have a Dad who worries about him so much.
absolutley PHANTASTICO,, crystal clear sound,, cant get any better then this.. travis is one of the really great guys in country,, no wonder, he was admired by waylon jennings,, he sure knew why he did so... very good stuff travis :):)
GAMMA1033 I echo everything that you have said. You stolen my thunder entirely. We all at a younger age dream about getting away from the homefront we call hell. Then later realize that we've gotten our own selves into that hell by moving away. Now that we're back in heaven that we ran away from we don't want to leave.
i wish travis tritt would come out with some new music. He has that outlaw country/rock feel that not many have these days. Most of todays country is a bunch of queers like Jason Aldean and Rascal Flatts who wouldn't know real country music if it bit them on their ass. Jamey Johnson is the real deal.
I spent much of the first 18 years of my life dreaming of where corn don't grow, and the next 40 years dreaming of getting back to where corn does grow. I'm not sure it is possible to ever appreciate what you have - without experiencing being without it.
@gamma1033 I'm right there with you. I grew up in a small country town in Michigan and don't call me a yankee cuz we're just as country as people are in the south but I live in Texas now but I'm more in the city in Texas than I was back home. You can spend 2 hours a day in Austin traffic and that's on a good day. Where I'm from you can drive 10 miles all on dirt roads in around 10 to 20 minutes. Here you can drive 10 miles about an hour GRRR I miss where the corn grows
Yes, there is very much truth in this song. Where Corn Don't Grow is a metaphor. The first verses of the song is talking about somebody who is young, thinks they know it all, and thinks they can make it in the outside world, despite the warnings from friends and family (a typical rebellious kid). The last verse talks about that young kid growing up, realizing they weren't as smart as they thought they were and learned the hard way to lifes lessons.
I appreciate your insight. I will confess that it is true from the other side as well. I moved to Oklahoma for college when I was 18 and had a very very difficult time adjusting. I ended up running back home after only 3 years and finishing there.
@bigdmck01 id like to add to yer already prefect comment, that its not about where you live or being able to directly/personally relate to a song but rather understanding the message and story being told.this goes for any type of music, but especially country
@scooterdelmar Delmar? I knew a Delmar. Pretty rare name. I think it hurt his father more that he said there are a lot of things I don't know. Things his father thought he instilled in him.
He is great! I am from europe and i really like country music and i am a big fan of travis! It is frustrating that i am not able to see him live! Great singer, great song!
I just recently saw Travis perform...still as great today as he was back when....I can't believe how he brings the audience together...old, young, anything goes...just awesome!
One of the best country songs, for me!! Great voice

IMO, the best song Travis has ever done. I don't like a lot of his music, but, I absolutely love this one and the way he does it is superb!

Travis is one the the few artist that sounds as good live as he does on recordings!!! truly one of the greatest!!!...
jerryk937 2 years ago 4
jerryk937-That's the way it is with true country.
Their music isn't made in the studio.
It's actually real.

@virago1776 That's the way it is with true MUSIC, of any genre. Heartfelt and based in reality.

This song make's me think of the disagreements with my own Dad and it hurt's deep down inside.
pap4500 2 years ago 3
pap4500-Your Dad quite likely thinks about the disagreements he had with his own Dad and it hurts him as well.
If not, he didn't learn anything from it.
And your son, if you have one, will be no different.
That's just the way it works.
