  • this was GREAT - was literally going to home depot to buy a new washer. To quote my dad (who is new to computers) WOW - this restores my faith in humanity and the internet! He thought I was nuts to google it. Took about 25 minutes, only because I insisted on cleaning everything inside and out. HINT: dont buy from Sears - $8 with $9 shipping! Buy at Amazon (Supplyland) ($4, FREE shipping!)

  • Great video. I'm cheap so I just took the old dog ears and cut grooves in and put them back they work great. Not sure how long they will last but it's better than having to pay for them right now. Thank you so much.

  • wow - order from amazon, from "Supplyland" - $3.67+free shipping! will arrive in 3-5days. Stupid Sears wanted 8 bucks plus $9 shipping! arriving in 2 weeks!

Thanks for the video, very well done/clear.

  • Thank you so much for this video. Had same problem and had no idea was so easily fixable. Agitator dogs were 9.95 at local Sears parts counter - I fixed my washer in like 10 minutes thanks to your video. I'm sure you saved me 100+ bucks.

  • GOOD VIDEO. RIGHTY TIGHTY LEFTY LOOSEY

  • I know how to replace all the parts too, I'd save myself probably 500 bucks too.

  • Thanks so much. My Kenmore started doing this about a week ago. Pretty much knew what the problem was in general but always nice to see the actual steps and parts required. You made it easier for me. Thanks again.

  • Wow! You just saved me hundreds of dollars. I am so excited about this easy repair!

  • I know that repair! Have a Kenmore from 2008 500 series that is still working great. I have some vids of it too.

  • Thank you, youve saved me alot of money!!! Eather paying a service tech or buying a new washer!!

  • I have the Kenmore model 110. I got the 2 piece agitator out just as in the video. However, the top agitator does not want to separate from the bottom one. Any ideas?

  • @markt317 hey, if you look into the piece that has the teeth all around it, you will see two tiny tabs 180 degrees away from each other. i pried then away from the tabs holding them in and pulled up at the same time...somehow it came apart...it wasn't that easy, not sure why the guy in the demo video had it so easy as i fought mine for about thirty mins...good luck

  • @nismokittie Thanks for the tip. Would not have known to look for this. Fixing mine tomorrow.

  • This was such an easy fix & I'm a girl, lol! I didn't have to call a repair person or get a new washing machine, WOOO HOOO - A huge thanks and God Bless you for posting this video!!

  • I think my washer needs something else also because the rinse cycle doesn't start up... But I ended up realizing I need this fixed also... Thanks!

  • yay, hope it works. we were having circumstantional challenges.

  • Yes, it's a 10 minute fix. Thanks for a great help!

  • working like your grandmas sewing machine. gr8 work man

  • Holy Cow! YOU ROCK! I fixed my washer and looked like a handyman in front of my wife for a change. Thanks a million!

  • Thank You!!! Was really easy!!! Thought we were going have to buy a new washer!!!

  • Thank you, sir! You saved me and the misses a couple of hundred bucks!

  • Great 5 Minute Fix Thanks for the great Video and directions.

  • Thanks Dude!!!!

  • This was exactly what I needed. I also found the part at amazon.com for only $3.75.

  • JOE!!..Man you are sweet.hot..adorable...oh..and SMART!!! thanks for showing me how E-Z this is! oh man I was so happy to turn it all on after doing this simple repair and wow..i am getting all the tread marks out of my drawers!! man..I am no longer going dateless with guys running away screaming wondering why i don't clean my clothes!.>Thanks a bunch man..i'm trying to figure how to post and 'before' and 'after' pic of my clothes..but someone suggested to just thank you...ok.>THANK YOU!

  • Came across your video while researching this same problem. Ordered the parts, made the repair and the washer is good as new. Thanks so much.

    Mark C

  • Thank you so much!!! You save us a fortune!

  • Great! Thanks so much! Got my dogs quickly from a seller on Amazon w/ shipping for $3.75. Mine's a little newer model and doesn't have a bolt. It takes a half inch square tool to remove a plastic thing on a spring to get to the dogs. After that it's just one piece that lifts out to get to the dogs. I didn't have to take any of the agitator out. Took 5 minutes to fix. Thanks for showing me how to diagnose the problem and the confidence to do this myself.

  • Good presentation. As a stop-gap, I used a hot knife to make grooves on the agitator dogs. Then I reinstalled them and they grab the clutch mechanism in the top agitator just fine. Obviously, I can't do this forever. I'm going to order a set of dogs to have on hand when this repair wears out.

  • Great! Even though I have a slightly different agitator assembly, this video was perfect for allowing me to see what is necessary to fix mine. I did it all myself for a total cost of $8.49! I was literally thinking I may need to buy a new washer before I saw this video. Saved me a ton of money. This is why I love the internet. Thanks!

  • I can't thank you enough for posting this video!! I followed exactly what you said and my machine is now agitating beautifully!! Feeling pretty proud of myself right now. :) Thanks Joe!!!!

  • I just paid $2.94 shipped for the same parts on ebay..

You want to search for "FSP 80040"

I was happy to see we had the same model, series, washer, ect..

Your video made this super easy, I really appreciate you making this video!

  • Joe, thank you so much. Now, I can fix my washer myself. You are the best!! What other good repair videos do you have? One question, when the washer was not working, did the machine make any kind of strange noises? Thanks a million :)

  • Ditto to the guy below me. You do freakin rock. we do not have $400 for a new washing Machine. $14.50 for the 4 peices at Sears, had it fixed in 15 minutes. Thanks man!

  • THANK YOU!!!! You just saved me a ton of money!

  • dude you r freakin AWESOME, you saved me $400 bucks. THANK YOU !! =))

  • thanks, you solved our problem, we ended up spending $17 dollars of $600 thanks

  • Fixed! Thanks for the video.

  • Great job Joe! Easy Peazy Thanks

  • Thanks man. I just fixed my washer because of this video. Thanks a bunch. I owe u one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dude thanks!! Awesome you solve my problem and I fellow what you said, My washing machine working now.

  • @SadKamper Hey thanks, glad it worked.

  • Nice Tip. was an easy fix. got them from a local sears repair center for 10 bucks.

  • alright....here's the deal....it's 6:20 am, Saturday! and my wife wakes me up with the grand news that our clothes washer is broken. "Can you fix it honey" she asks. What the heck do I know about spin cycles and gurgitators? I told her we were probable looking at buying new!

    She FREAKS OUT!

    I look at Joe's vid...and guess what?

    I AM NOW A HERO!

    Nice goin' Joe!

  • @TheSnarkyApologist Thats awesome! Im glad it helped! You should take the money you saved and spend it something you would like thats fun. Your wife may not agree though......

  • Thank you! Good job!

  • @forevertexas61 Argh... I wish I was in Texas right now, its too cold here... Thanks!

  • I think this will fix my problem. Thanks for taking the time to provide the video. BTW, I ordered the dogs for $3.64 including expedited delivery from eBay.

  • @schabetc Thanks.

  • amazing i love this quick fix ----- i think anyone can fix anything thats broken if they try

  • How amazing!! I was very distressed thinking I was going to have to buy a new washer; my washer is 16 years old. I found your video and was able to fix my washer for $8.53. My husband was very pessimistic that I would be able to fix the washer, guess whose laundry got washed first :) Thank you so much!!

  • @MegaScotty6 You showed him! See if he ever doubts you again!

  • I just want to thank you so much.....i was thinking I had to buy a new washer....for $10 we fixed this one.....its people like you that make youtube a great thing!!!!

  • @peachbunnie1 Thanks so much.

  • Wow........ what a sigh of relief! Thank you SO MUCH!

  • Thanks so much for the video. I am out of work and can't afford a new washer.

  • rage against the machine

  • Thanks so much for the video. I do all the repairs around my house not my husband. This saved me from having to buy a new Washing Machine.

  • Thanks so much for the video. I do all the repairs around my house not my husband. This saved my buying a new Washing Maschine

  • @myavaz Thats awesome, You should take some of the money you saved and treat yourself to something nice.... Thats what I always do lol.....

  • We had the exact same problem with ours.

Thanks for the very helpful video!

  • This is exactly my washing machine, with exactly my problem. Fixed for $9 in parts and $9 in shipping! Thanks for a great do-it-yourselfer post.

  • You are every appliance owner's dream come true! Thank you SO much. You saved us at least 200.00!!! Whooo hoo!!!!

  • YEA!!! Thank you! My 12 year old son and I fixed our washer in a matter of minutes, once we had the part and the tools together! This was great!

  • Awesome... I knew what I needed to do, I just didn't know the name or where to begin looking for the little clips.

  • The hardest part was the parts guy at Sears trying to find the dog agits in the back room. Thanks.

  • @jhennig80010 Wow thats neat you could go get them, theres no place local here. You would have to spend more in gas than the parts cost.

  • Washer screams like banshee, maybe binding under agitator? We have an old Kenmore over/under with an agitator top cap with a large plastic tab that sticks up in middle. Used pliers to grab tab and gently but firmly lift up to pop it off, then used half inch socket to remove normal threaded bolt. After reassembly still screams, so maybe needs oil/grease undernearh or a new unit, grrr. But thanks for this video showing how to remove agitator. Maybe another video will show a fix for my problem :)

  • My friend and I (two females) fixed my washer ourselves using this video. Went online and ordered the part, even had to buy an extender for my wrench but the whole cost was less than $30 and it runs like new!! Thanks so much for the very infromative video!!

  • @MsWillie00 Well awesome, Its always satisfying fixing something yourself, plus cheaper! Thanks!

  • Where do you live? I'm flying there to hug you.

  • @bigbearballs Thanks! I guess it would be a big old bear hug? ;-)

  • Thanks for this informative video. Love your voice :)

  • @SpazChat Well thanks, Ive been told I got a face for radio, maybe I have the voice too ;-D

  • My wife hates you. She had her heart set on a new fancy washer.

Thanks to you I get to feel pretty awesome about fixing my beloved washer.

    Thank you very much.

  • @ogmclovin Heres the deal, with all of the money you saved, you should go out and treat yourself to something nice that you would both like. A new washer? Thats only fun for a short while?

  • Went online to find out how to get the agitator out of my Kenmore washer and came across this video which was the exact issue I was experiencing. After watching this, I ordered the part online ($11, $7+ for the shipping), followed the directions and I am back in business after only a couple days of down time. GREAT video that saved me a lot of money. Since the washer was approximately 20 years old, it almost ended up on the curb, like he says in the video. THANKS!

  • You saved the day Brah! AND my washing machine... Mucho Thanxo!!!

  • WISH I COULD BUY YOU A BEER ! SAVED ME A FEW BUCKS ....THANKS !

  • Thanks for the video man. I got my dogs for $4.00 on amazon and it is now back to life. Thanks for the vid. :)

  • Great video; helped a lot. Note that if you don't have an exposed nut, you might have -- like I did -- a plastic insert instead. Just use a pair of needle-nosed pliers, spread apart -- to put down in the square hole to unscrew the plastic insert. This insert has a built-in bolt. I was confused at first as all I could see was the metal shaft but no bolt.

  • This was awesome! Our motor coupler needed to be fixed and I happened upon your video and decided to give both a try. Not only did we fix the motor coupler and our washer spins again, but it also agitates which it never did when it was sold to us 3 years ago. Laundry has never been so fun!

  • Where is the serial number located? I looked everywhere on the machine and can't find it.

  • @W8AMNUT On ours its right when you open the washer lid on a plate, its possible it has been removed?.....

  • I followed your exact instructions for the same model washer that I have and now it works like new. Thanks for your help.

  • Did your machine make a noise when it couldn't spin?

  • Thank you SO MUCH! This was exactly the problem with our washing machine. Thanks to your excellent video and some inexpensive Dog Agits ordered on line, we have fixed our washer and saved the hundreds of dollars we thought we might have to spend to replace it. Cheers!

  • Is it supposed to click like that.. kinda loud isnt it?

  • Thank you! $8 for parts and I am back in business. Sure works better with all the Dog Agits working!!

  • Thanks you, our washer was doing this but we didnt know what was wrong, and after watching this video we went to check our washer and what do you know, it WAS the dogs that were worn out after all. cant believe it was something so simple, thanks!

  • Thanks much. Well done.

  • Work for me. I tried to be cheap while waiting for my parts to show up in a week. I just took the dogs and use my jig saw to cut teeth into them. It's working for now. haha.

  • This seems easy to do on your own. I need to get new agitators for my kenmore washer.

  • After you set the cogs/dogs in place you skipped several steps. I have the Agitator Cam KIt and it has a black cog holder sleeve and a white sleeve I have no clue where it goes. :(

  • Thanks, fixed my machine as well. Amazon was cheaper than Sears for parts though. $4 plus shipping. Just have to have the right part number.

  • Well, after watching your video last week, I ordered the part. The parts and shipping cost me a total of $16.60. The parts came yesterday-- I watched the video again about 25-30 minutes ago to refresh my memory, spent about 15 minutes on labor and TA-DA! It's working GREAT! Thank you SO MUCH for putting this info on YouTube. You saved us alot of money!!

  • THANK YOU! This is a fantastic video and you saved my washing machine with your expert instruction!

  • Just wanted to clean the agitator. Awesome video and it is book marked for when it happens! Love my Kenmore and love even more that I can do it myself!

  • Just wanted to clean the agitator. Awesome video and it is book marked for when it happens! Love my Kenmore and love even more that I can do it myself!

  • Thanks, I fixed my agitator! It took me longer to find the right socket than it did to replace the little cogs.

  • I'm having the the same problem with me Kenmore, but the only thing is mine doesn't have the agitator dogs, it has gaskets. How would I go by doing this fix? Great video btw!

  • This was a HUGE help, thanks for posting!!!

  • you're a lifesaver!!

    thanks

  • Awesome! I think you may have just saved me tons of money!! Question though--- I noticed mine wasn't agitating, so I took out all the soaking wet clothes to WATCH what the agitator was doing with just water in there and it seemed to do just fine. It's when all the heavy clothes are in there, that it won't "agitate". Is that the caused by the same problem you show in the video?

  • @ldsmomma39 yes it is mine is doing the same thing

  • Thanks! Just what I'm looking for. Can't get my husband (a postal machines mechanic) to fix it so I've got to do it myself.

  • This saved me from buying a new washer!! Thank you soo much!

  • Plastic nut holding the clutch on so even easier than the video to remove.

  • Thanks so much, worked like a charm.

  • Thank you for the easy fix. Worked for me.

Note: I have the same dog agits 80040 and I have an 2003 estate washer.

  • Perfect. Thank you very much. This is exactly what I needed. I love youtube DIYs.

  • Thanks a bunch. I took it apart and the top didn't easily separate from the bottom. I thought I needed a whole new agitator. Then I watched this video and now I took out those little 'dogs' and I'm pretty sure I'll be washing a large load again in a few days! Cheers!

  • Thank you for your video! It really helped!

  • Here it is, almost 2 years to the day since you posted this video, and it is still helping poor suckers like me, who know NOTHING about appliance repair. I purchased a set of "agitator dogs" from sears online for $9. Don't even want to *think* about how much an appliance repair crew would have charged. Fix worked great! Thanks!!!

  • I'd like to thank both Joe and weezie63 for their expert help and advice. I thought that the top unscrewed from the bottom (both parts were stuck together - all I had to do was pull them apart after following the instructions!) Thanks, Guys; the repairman's quote was $88 call-out, plus parts.

  • Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to do this video. We just fixed ours for $5!

  • Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to do this video. We just fixed ours for $5!

  • Great - it worked wonderfully. Thanks!

  • This is sweet! Just ordered parts from Amazon for 4 bucks shipped. THANKS!

  • we have a 2002 kenmore 80 series. dose the same thing? dont know why? it also dosent spin at all sometimes.

  • simple fix on my 23 year old machine and it's cleanin' my undies even as I type. Great video, Schlubb and nothing like the feeling of saving $1000 because you are gonna get talked into the newest model with all the bells and whistles. Not to mention the satisfaction of fixing it yourself. Who says a computer is only good for porn?

  • You're awesome! Thank you so much!

    ~A grateful housewife

  • Thanks for the video!! Very easy fix that only cost me $10.

  • This is so awesome. Thanks for posting this. I was about to spend $300 on a new washer. Instead I spent $10 fixing my old washer and now it works perfectly fine. You saved me $290.

  • great video - thanks for the perfect explanation... just ordered my parts!

  • Thanks so much, its people like you that take the time to make a difference, that makes the world a better place !

  • Thank you! We were just about to throw out our washer when we came across your fix. This is just as easy as it looks and saved us a lot of money!

  • great video

  • No doubt,...thanx 4 the video. i also will be repairing mine 2 morrow.

  • $4.10 later my machine works right again! Thanks so much. :)

  • you skip a step i think case mine @ 1:24 has plastic blocking the bolt how do I remove it??

  • @Roughneckxx1 Ours has that, too. We just pulled up on the plastic and it popped out. (It seemed to have laundry detergent built up on it that made it stick in there... you might add a little water and rub around the edges so the soap isn't holding it in place.) Hope that works for you!

  • @kpeebles OH I was about to show you how I removed it but I was pissed so dident get my camera out Sooo I just got my hammer on the prey side and went at it took like 30 secs to get it out and was relived yeah I choped that adgitator part in half with the hammer

  • Thank you for the perfect "How-To" for fixing the top agitator on my...16 year old Kenmore. Piece of cake, you made it easy to fix. A quick trip to my local appliance parts store, $10 and a couple of hours total time, and it's good-as-new.

Just when we were thinking, "hmmm, maybe it's time to get a new machine," we're back at 100% performance. Thank you!

  • Thank you for info. ..I will be repairing mine tomm./this is why I will not replace my Kenmore. They do not make them like they use to..Thank you once again..

  • Saved us a service call :) Detailed enuf it was easy for us to follow..SUCCESS!!

Thank you for posting this video!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this video! It was very helpful. I followed the instructions in your video and completed the repair in less that 10 minutes! It took longer to call around and find the parts.

    THANK YOU!

  • Yesterday my washing machine wasn't working, I had no idea what to do. I came on and did a quick search for Kenmore washing machines, Yours was the first one to come up. I checked my washer and it was the SAME thing that happened to mine! I went down today and bought those little plastic pieces for $6. Put it all back together and its going just fine as I type this! Thanks SOOO much for posting this video. Who knows how much money you saved me! THANK YOU!!!

  • This is a excellent Video Awesome

  • awesome!!! Thank You!!!

  • Thanks So much, Mine has done this before and I paid over $100 to get it fixed. So of course it did it just last week and I can't get it fixed now. However with your easy steps here I can do it. I even took it apart and wow How easy. Now to get those Dogs. Thanks again!

  • Thank you! Saved me calling the repairman. Awesome.

  • Thanks so much for this video. My washer actually did this 2 days ago and it's the exact same model as yours. I took the agitator off it, but didn't know how to get the second part off. Thanks so much!

  • Thank you so much for this video. I'm a working mom with kids. I replaced the dogs myself by watching your video took me 20 min and $10.00 from the local appliance store. I couldn't even get a repair person out here for less than $75.00 for the service call alone, then add parts and time to install my bill would have been about $150.00 dollars. I don't know about the rest of you out there but I can sure use that money for food and gas .Thanks again for a great job on the video@

  • Repaired my washer so I can wash donated clothes before I give them away to fire victims & other needy families! I couldn't get the tiny clips off the clutch assembly to get it out, I used a screw driver to move the clips to the side so the clutch would slide out. Once that was done the rest was easy! I've one question, The water inlet mount is broken & can't seem to find a video to repair it or the proper part. It mounts from the rear cover panel to the water hose. Help please. The Rev

  • "Is Like 1994 All Over Again!"

  • THANK YOU!!!! This was a very informative video and it really helped me out...was able to fix my washer...Thanks again!!!!

  • Dude, what a GREAT video!! Thanks for saving $500- 1000

  • thank`s a lot . this video save me a lot of bucks !!!!!

  • WOW ! You just saved me over $500 because I successfully fixed my Kenmore 80 Series washing machine !!

Think of the landfill space you have single-handedly saved!!

My wife doesn't want a frontloader, and hates those new "high efficiency" top loaders.

Having her back the Kenmore 80 Series machine was one of the best "gifts"!

  • Thanks just what to fix, I watched the video took off the cap, saw the broken pieces and went right to the appliance store, picked up the the dogs (cost me $4.20) and fixed it, all in 25 miniutes!!

  • YEAH!!! I fixed it. It was the dog agits. I was prepared to have the motor coupler replaced. Thanks for the video.

  • Thanks for the video, I have a fairly new Kirkland (by Whirlpool) and the design is almost the same. Sears has the parts - but there are the lower bushings that need to be replaced. I wish you had shown those, but thanks for what you did show.

  • Thank you so much for your post! I definitely saved me at least 100 dollars! Have a drink on me kind sir and have an awesome weekend. You ROCK!

  • God Bless you...you saved me some money today!!!

  • thank you sir, you just saved me some big bucks !!! ... i love youtube

  • Thank you so much! I had purchased the dog agits. My brother showed me how to take the agitator apart. He told me to put the dog agits in exactly the same way the old ones were. But the old ones were so worn that they had all turned around with the fat ends inside, so it turns out I had put my dog agits in backwards. Not until I saw your video did I understand. I'm so happy now! Thank you.

  • Joe: That was some good DIYS :D

  • This was awesome, it took me about 20 min though. Thanks for the help.

  • In this economy a lot of people are going to be doing their own repairs, so a video like this could really be helpful! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with everyone...God bless you! =)

  • tnak you so much

  • Outstanding repair advice. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the help!

  • Got the part, installed it and we're in business!!! Thanks again!

  • My washer is about 10 years older than this one, but same basic process, except no soap cup on top of mine, just pry the cap and there it is. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO GUY!!!! YOU SAVED ME FROM BUYING NEW WASHER AND MY WIFE IS HAPPY AS HELL TO SAVE $400 THANKS!!!!! She let me get a new fishing rig :)

  • @wheremygat187 sorry, i ment my washer is 10 years NEWER its a 2004/2005 model

  • I watched Video, and it went exactly the way the video discribed, (other than no 7/16" nut), my washer had a 1/2'' drive square drive, and 1 very easy turn , done, and 5 mins later DONE !!!! thank you for information, and as easy as it was, 10 dollars , and this machine is running like new, Right on !!!!!!!

  • I am so excited and grateful to you for this video. This is the EXACT problem I have with my washer. Can't afford to buy a new machine as I am recovering from Cancer surgery and my husband has been out of work for two years. I just ordered the part on ebay for $2.93 including shipping!! I will let you know when I get it and they are installed!!! Thank you again, you made my day!!!

  • This was the first link I found when searching, and it is EXACTLY my machine, and the problem. I bought the $10 part from Sears (agitator dogs), and my 11 year old son fixed it. THANK YOU for such a great video!!!
