Absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't expect anything less from Neil Young, one of those artists that I'd rather hear them play live than studio any day. And thats saying something at this day and age when the computer does most of the singing. Keep on rockin' Neil!
This is a great version of a great song. Let's celebrate that rather than putting down a fan who has found his dream musician who speaks to his heart, hands, & mind.
Here's the deal! sublimy99 has over stepped his barrier. Im 26 yrs old and when someone tries to tell me my music idol (John Lennon) is overrated (which is quite often with a generation that has no true musical idol or people who interrupt a generation, only THEIR personal feelings) is a fading pile, it holds no validity. Yet, the fact that someone attacks it means there are losers out there that want to destroy ideas. No matter what you say this kid should live to his ideals about Neil Young!
This is so beautiful, when the day is done and when it's dark, not any sound around, I listen to this concert while watching out of my window. really sometimes I drop a tear.
Love "Tell Me Why", but did not know On The Way... and it's got a hold on me after- and already while- listening to it for the first time ever, hats off to Neil!!!
Such beautiful feelings Neil, thank you for everyone who has been blessed by your love spirit. May we hold on to the love we are all a tiny part of that we may again be one in bliss forever, after this________ of course. Peace please, everyone together.
I have just now completed a critical inspection of this shabby, hirsute and hysterical Neanderthal girl. I confidently offer my assessment of the young trollop. This frightful young woman yowls and screeches in a feral manner, the tenor of which is quite reminiscent of the wayward felines trapped and beaten nightly by my forthright and stalwart groundsman. Surely this woman was raised by wild beasts. James!

@TheNeidermayer pleaz....post a pic of you...neil young is the man of folk music-you should respect your elders....would like to knowsomething you have done to make a mark in life, other than being a rude dude, or whatever you are....
I'm only 16 but i love Neil Young so much. He's incredibly underrated. I've spent the last 2-3 weeks learning his songs on guitar. He has been such a big influence on my music. I've listened to so much of his stuff and I have to say nothing beats it.
@RasMajnouni Well its music of your generation haha. Today with music it seems like quantity over quality. Don't get me wrong I love some new stuff. But from everything I've heard nobody comes close to writing songs like Neil Young or Bob Dylan anymore. Pretty sad when you think about. The talent's there but the songs aren't.
@invictorium , he's 16 and he is a fan. When someone considers an artist "underrated" it means that whatever people think of them, it's still not enough, Be the bigger man. I'm sure Neil is just fine with his status.
However, He may not be ok with you insulting other fans.
@sublimy99 Quite the opposite. By people constantly claiming an artist is underrated, slowly but surely a new opinion forms possibly affecting new ears and new listeners; i'm sure Neil wouldn't like that.
@invictorium , Ok, like I said he's 16 and he said he loved Neil Young, but that wasn't enough for you, a 48 year old man, who should be old enough to recognize a 16 year old Neil Young fan, for a fan, but you had to be the one to call him an idiot, based on your use and definition of a word. I can't begin to tell you how ridiculous you are, but you won't see it. I know, because I read most of the comments on your channel and they are very negative. This means you just like to start trouble.
@invictorium he doesn't read this stupid bullshit you looser! you and people like you are so wrapped up in this commenting shit that you think people actually read them. you probably complain in your facebook status' too. complain to people who don't know you and will never read what you say but you do it anyway.
@mikecappa read the comments above you idiot, notice the reply and original comment made. The joke is on you anyway, you read what I had to say and you are still wasting your time talking to me, now piss off to your hole of sexual frustration, as freud would say.
@Waycooljr294 I don't know if underrated is the right word. I'd say underplayed in the mainstream, but true artisis everywhere who can tell the difference, well we are spoiled to have such a role model. Who else is still around since the early sixties, this good still? To make it even better is still going strong, and working his ass off. It's good to see you are a good role model for your young buddies, and are keeping his spirit in music rolling on..
@Waycooljr294 He's two times in the RnR Hall of Fame. Considered one of the best lyricists ever. Known for his influence in almost every great band. Went through a lot of changes during his career, and still rocking, even won a grammy (this almost doesn't counts anyway) after decades playing. How is this underrated?
@apessoass Alright well again I'm going to say underrated wasn't the right word. I guess the point I was getting across was that he doesn't the get the respect he deserves from this generation. Because the only people my age who know who Neil Young is are the ones who's taste in music have been completely influenced by their parents. But at least you were civil about it unlike that other guy lol.
"When the dream came I held my breathe with my eyes closed / I went insane like a smoke-ring day when the wind blows" . Neils paints a gorgeously blurred picture of finding fame and new loves and his kiss-off to Buffalo Springfield . It would be great to find some sophomore but not sophomoric English Lit class paper Neil did before he left school. Bidding starts at $100,000
@ Tool2095. I play it in standard tuning also, and every tab I find does too. But it doesn't match up with the video. Everything else I rehearse matches perfect most of the time to recording, once I find the correct tuning, whether it's a 1/2 step down or open tuning or whatever. Maybe all the tab is off. Everything I find has the intro starting on the 7th fret and traveling down the fretboard till it gets to D.
@LoumanL Not sure about "On My Way Home" but I know Neil is tuned down a full step and a half for "Tell Me Why". It is a pretty common tuning for him.
It's my opinion that Massey Hall stands as one of the very very best live performances by Neil. Listening to this is a spiritual experience for me. I just saw Neil and Buffaloe Springfield at the Bridge concert and can tell you the magic is still there within him. What a beautiful thing to share.

I looked around at the audience at the acoustic show and saw many members of the audience openly weeping. It was just that honest and beautiful. Neil is a one of a kind performer and writer. Thanks Mr. Young.
When "L@MH" was released, I wouldn't buy it..It stared at me every day as I stood in line at Starbucks for my coffee...I didn't want to be seen as an 'old' NY fan'...a year later I was sitting in the lobby of my sons' music school, reading some old GuitarPlayer magazine..there was a review of L@MH and it was very very brief: "Perfect." Enough said.

@TasOMW thanks for the response. acutally, i did some research. this film was shot in stratford, ct......the massey hall performance was overdubbed(google it). i thought something looked strange about the video. weird lighting, etc. neil young rules......rock on
@captam666 oh now i see what you mean, at first i thought you were asking if the audio was from massey hall or not but i see what you meant sorry for that misunderstanding
@rja81 I heartily agree with everything you posted. Neil's music changed my life back in the early 70's like a liferaft navigating stormy seas of change, personal and planetary. Vietnam, drugs, assassinations, Nixon, Kent State, Woodstock, the Draft, it was all so intense. His music was a beacon to my soul garnering safe passage. I bet hundreds of thousands of 50-somethings could say the same thing.
I feel so unfortunate to have grown up with such an altered image of Neil Young. He always seemed to so old to me as a kid. Until I turned maybe 18 and realized how great it would have been to have him as the voice of my youth. great video!
@spudchabaz i was fortunate to grow up in the sixties and seventies, and u r 100% correct, Neil Young is more than just a singer-song writer, he taught me how to live through his music, in my opinion he is an angel sent to earth to teach mankind how to love and how to live in peace, i believe that he has had a major affect upon the world and continues to do so. i also have noticed in my 51 years here on earth, that whenever I meet a true follower of Neil, i feel something very special.
@rja81 Really well written.I'm 57.First heard him in Buffalo Springfield in 1966 on the radio,Neil Young's first 2 solo albums I could identify with. His searching for THE only woman.Seems that only his work as an artist to express himself made him go onstage. The man wasn't seeking stardom or power. We all are born with an ego & he played his down which is so important in life. You mention him as an angel. We are all sent here as people,an angel has no ego to fight. He did fight his.
@RasMajnouni Thanks for sharing your keen sense of insight, i totally agree with evrything u say. As a young child my father would listen to Hank Williams Sr. regularly and only recently i discovered that Neil held very highly of him. It was said about Hank, that if u want to know who he was just listen to his lyrics, the same can be said about Neil, and Joni. Once again i say that Neil Young has definitely played a major role in inspiring me to become a better human being.
live at massey hall is the best album i've ever heard, and these two tracks are the most underrated on it. the beginning of 'on the way home' gives me goosebumps every time, even after 100+ plays.
Yeah Please some one just upload all of the Massey Hall DVD and call it "Paul Young's best" so no one will know it's Neil and Neil or the record company won't take it down. On the way home is a perfect song. Can you feel it know?
i bought the cd + dvd a couple weeks ago, it's really worth what it costs, you should buy it sit in your sofa with some friends and wattch it, it's freken amazing
@Chroesus My dream too .. come on people upload more Massey. With they had the Canterbury Songs on video and not just Neil moving ever so slightly starring at me with Phil Ochs eyes.
I originally discovered this album in State College, PA at the (very recently closed) City Lights Records store. The owner, Greg Gabbard (who bears a resemblance to an older Neil) was playing this over his stereo. I knew it was Neil Young, but I never heard this cut before. I later bought it off of him, and now and forever, when I hear this, I'll think of Greg Gabbard and City Lights.
BTW I am VERY amazed how good the sound quality is on the album (for it being a concert and all....)
Hi from Argentina Neil you re the best!!!!!

What does it matter if I like the Chemical Brothers? What have they got to do with Neil Young?
There will never be a new Neil Young. there will never be anything like him at all.
If anyones an idiot here it's the one who says "lol".

@captam666 yes it definitely was
TasOMW 1 year ago
@TasOMW thanks for the response. acutally, i did some research. this film was shot in stratford, ct......the massey hall performance was overdubbed(google it). i thought something looked strange about the video. weird lighting, etc. neil young rules......rock on
captam666 1 year ago

Until I turned maybe 18 and realized how great it would have been to have him as the voice of my youth. great video!
spudchabaz 1 year ago 2
@spudchabaz i was fortunate to grow up in the sixties and seventies, and u r 100% correct, Neil Young is more than just a singer-song writer, he taught me how to live through his music, in my opinion he is an angel sent to earth to teach mankind how to love and how to live in peace, i believe that he has had a major affect upon the world and continues to do so. i also have noticed in my 51 years here on earth, that whenever I meet a true follower of Neil, i feel something very special.
rja81 1 year ago

Thank u NEIL

live at massey hall is the best album i've ever heard, and these two tracks are the most underrated on it. the beginning of 'on the way home' gives me goosebumps every time, even after 100+ plays.

Yeah I strongly urge all uploads of Massey Hall 1971 with Neil Young.
And from Buffalo Springfield Box Set Neils songs as What ever happened to Sat Night? and the heart-string pulling ONE MORE SIGN.
11xzxzxz 1 year ago
Yeah Please some one just upload all of the Massey Hall DVD and call it "Paul Young's best" so no one will know it's Neil and Neil or the record company won't take it down. On the way home is a perfect song. Can you feel it know?

the best night of my whole life was seeing Neil live last year! God is real!
