Hey Govt is not all white and pure i know that not only this govt but all the govts that has been in SL and most of the Govt's in the world are not the citizens hero. Thing is that in reality ppl in this country needs a tough leadership like this, if not they dnt get it thats reality

Did he defame the whole country? Reading the pieces he wrote it looks like he was after the two brothers, not only for genocidal actions against minorities but for an outrageous level of political corruption.

Thing to remember (even if you don't concern yourself with the Tamils): this guy is the 3rd journalist in the last 3 years to be whacked for speaking out against the government. And How many others have been dragged off and killed in the night. Sri Lanka is sadly a police state today.

Would you restrict your definition to the dissident who blows up people in in shopping malls or would you include, say, the kind of terrorism in which government paramilitaries abduct people in the middle of the night, beat the crap out of em and leave em buy the side of the road? wow! this man is to sri lanka what walter cronkite was to viet nam war. was truth in reporting of cronkite and others that eventually led to the ceasation of that war. if this brave journalist had lived war crimes would have been exposed with the sinhalese buddhists (monks included) who play as great a role in this racist oppression of tamils as the soldier who fires cluster bombs killing babies as indescriminately as you would squash a bug who is annoying you. rasism always justifys itself.
