I LOVE this idea... I want to do this in my hometown. When is was illegal for a black and a white to marry, 2/3 of the nation was against it. The court stepped in and made it legal and now, it sounds absurd that a black & a white would not be able to wed. This will be the thinking of our posterity in 50 years. Ok, this is the thing. The definition of marriage is the union of a man and a woman who promise to love each other their whole lives. One man and one woman. So how about if we make up a whole new word for the union of lesbians, and another one for gays? We can call it snogly, or crostrim.
That was the point! The union between Ed and Kitty, a "man and a woman" who have only just met, satisfies the legal definition of a marriage. On the other hand, Kitty and her partner who have been together for years, raised children and grandchildren, and are obviously committed to one another, are not able to get married simply because they both happen to be female.

Gender discrimination is currently, discrimination based on sex is defined as adverse action against another person, that would not have occurred had the person been of another sex. This is considered a form of prejudice and is illegal.

They're similar in legal terms, but different in connotation.
Here's an example: yummy and delicious (or pretty and gorgeous) mean the literally the same thing, but have different connotations to them. People give the words themselves greater meaning over other "equal" words.
Thus is marriage more powerful than civil union, and more important for equality to all.

That was the point! The union between Ed and Kitty, a "man and a woman" who have only just met, satisfies the legal definition of a marriage. On the other hand, Kitty and her partner who have been together for years, raised children and grandchildren, and are obviously committed to one another, are not able to get married simply because they both happen to be female.
This strikes me as being discriminatory and incredibly unfair.

You must be a relative of the idiotic Canadian judge who ruled that the marriage laws were not discriminatory because a gay person could marry someone of the opposite sex whenever s/he wanted to. I always suspected s/he was the same judge who ruled that someone who was fired for being pregnant was not fired for sex discrimination because women don't get pregnant - people do. Posting hateful comments against LGBT people violates YouTube's Terms of Use. The best way to handle trolls is not to argue with them; they love the negative attention. All they have to support their side is things they make up in their heads, no facts ever change their minds. It's a protest, a demonstration of how ludicrous the law is.
According to the law, she can marry a total stranger, but not the person she loves and has spent her life with.
Some people don't "get it," but many, many other viewers have found the demonstration effective and thought-provoking. Her action is not meant to "fix" the immediate problem of her inability to marry her partner, but to get people talking and thinking about the larger issue.

But then she asked for a marriage license with Ed, showing that it's ridiculous that someone can marry someone they knew for five seconds, but can't marry their same sex partner for whom they've known a long time and love and care deeply for.
