Some people get two things mixed up: ''based on'' doesn't mean it's a direct remake of something that really happened, it means that a story was influenced by true events, which is indeed true, in fact if it wasn't they wouldn't even be allowed to put it on there.

Apparantly when the director was a child some woman knocked on the door asking for someone who didn't live there, then a few days later he heard that a few houses were broken into by that same person, and of course the Manson case.

Thanks, yes I heard it too was based off the "Keddie Murders" too. I got the DVD I love the movie Bryan wrote it very well. I like how it was made. Yeah I have to say that was one of the better horror films that came out this decade. Better than the PG-13 garbage horrors we've gotten! Not saying it was perfect, but it offered a bit more of a real experience. And it was so simple. No need for some supernatural slasher (though I love them), no need to know anything. And don't just have them kill, make them torment you first. Make them work as a team. Therefore we feel like this is more believable and the idea becomes scarier.

The production designer is my friend's dad, and we went to see it with him; he explained to us that it was some vague memory the director had of a man coming to his house. Nothing more, nothing less. Besides, it would have been MUCH more scary with a motive; otherwise, its just cheap shots and bullshit.

I'm a great scary movie fan. I've seen them all but only gotten scared by a few. This one scared the crap out of me. I know the characters aren't real but the facts are based on a real incident. I lived through the horror of the Tate/La Bianca (Manson Family) murders as I was living close by at the time and this movie reminded me a lot of Manson and how his family acted out the murders.

Liv's fear is very real in the movie and contagious.
