Madonna says that a crucifix is sexy and had a video where she kills president Bush and she gets a Super Bowl gig, Hank uses a bad analogy and gets fired.
You know, I still can't understand how he could have been misunderstood. He said something along the lines of "it would be like". He didn't say O was H. He was saying what it looked/appeared like. What the situation looked like. Am I wrong? O is H! No.............................................he didn't say that! Example: Kentucky and Tennessee football players huggin' and kissin'. Nope.
I ain't gunna hate on ol Bocephus 'cause he's influenced some of the best country boys out there. Justin Moore. Brad Paisley. And more. So, his comments and opinions shouldn't have him shunned, everyone has an opinion someone doesn't believe in.
Hank Williams Jr. may be a good musician but his son Hank 3 is the one who is keeping Hank Sr.'s memory alive. Look him up on the internet. He even looks like his grandpa.
Hank's comments, if they were intended to disrespect the president (and I think using the name "Hitler" would indicate this was so) resulted in his song no longer getting exposure on ESPN on Monday 16 times a year.
This is similar to what happened when the Dixie Chicks disrespected President Bush a few years back. A lot of country stations boycotted their music, popular though it had been.
If anyone objects to what ESPN did they should also have objected to the boycott of the Dixie Chicks.
@cooper79jeffr WRONG. He was not saying Obama is like hitler. He was just noting the contrast of Hitler and Netanyahu being reminiscent of Boehner and Obama. THE CONTRAST. He NEVER said Obama was like Hitler.
@Redd094 - I understand that defense of Williams but I disagree. Anytime someone brings the words "Nazi" or "Hitler" into the conversation, they are intentionally inflating controversy and are going beyond reason (unless we're discussing a true death-dealing dictator).
For the record I think ESPN over-reacted to the Williams comments, just as I think that certain country music stations over-reacted by trying to impose a boycott on the Dixie Chicks.
Hank certainly has freedom of speech in our society to say what he wants. ESPN, like all employers, has the freedom to fire employees or cut off business partnerships without explanation. By doing so, they drew much more attention to Williams' comments than was needed.
I think perhaps Williams was making some small point about how odd it was that opposition leaders got together. He didn't really need to go into it that much and certainly he could have used a better analogy. Water over the dam.

Pig in the ground -- sounds like a luau for Matt Lauer and the rest of the flesh-eating, animal-cruelty profiteers of The Today Show, et cetera. Maybe the sellers of animal flesh will soon find out what it feels like to be on ice. Let's watch the movie Network.
I see Bocephus can still rock the crowd and delight them all in the same package. I seen Jr. several times in concert and enjoyed them all. His brand of country / rock is my kind of country music. Something that will make you kick up your heels instead of sit down and cry. Rock On Hank, You Are Doin It Right!!
