HI THANKS FOR THE VIDEO I AM PRESENTLY ADMITTING THAT I AM W A MAN THAT IS BI POLAR, HE HAS HAD A TRAMATIC LIFE STARTED AT AN EARLY CHILD HOOD, AND HE JUST TURNED 44 WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER KNOW 13 YEARS
AND IN THE LAST 3 HE HAS BECOME WORSE IN HIS MENTAL MIND HE ALSO ADDS ALCOHAL AND OTHER SUBSTANCES TO THIS AND HE IS OUT OF CONTROL AND ME AND MY CHILDREN FAMILY AND FRIENDS LIVE IN FEAR I NEED TO TRY TO GET TO AN INTERVENTION HE HAS ALL THE SYPMTOMS OF BI POLAR MANIA SCARES ME AND MINE THANKS
Thank you for this video. My 3 adult children all have a mental illness and are under treatment, sometimes I feel I did something wrong, but it's hereditary and was passed on unfortunately. I truly love my children and try my best to support them no matter what, but it is extremely difficult to cope with at times. I to have bipolar 2, so when we are all in a depressive mood it can be quite unbearable.
It amuses when people say that Bipolar Disorder is some recent invention thought up by pharmaceutical companies or pill-happy psychiatrists. The disorder was first identified years ago, though it has gone through different names (melancholia, manic-depression). You simply never heard about it before, nor about those receiving treatment. Why? Because they were institutionalized, lobotomized (among other barbaric things), hidden and forgotten.
Seeing one sister identified as a sister and one sister identified as an illness was discouraging because both women are sisters. If both women had worn shirts that read “Bipolar” with a simple statement underneath in italics such as “Let’s talk about it” it would have provided opportunity for each of them to talk about it from their own unique perspective. It also would have boldly demonstrated mutual equality. This does more harm than good.
Glenn and Jessie, so sorry, but you did not understand this made up disorder because even today the "professional" that prescribe the pure poison psychotropic meds for it don't understand it. Bi-polar is a cartoon disorder at best.. and if you have experienced signs of 'mental disorders' in you life, those were chemically induced reactions from these drugs! Drugs that kill over 40,000 a year just from bad reactions to them. Do research, find the one human on earth these drugs have cured..
@kotoole7 thank u for this comment!! people take less and less responsibility for themselves the more these bogus diagnoses are handed out right left and center. It all comes from trauma that has gone un-dealt-with. I know that there are people very far gone and I guess some meds help when there is real psychosis but mostly meds are WAY over prescribed and the other problem is that people start identifying with their dis-ease. I have this or I have that. I agree meds r the worst!!!
@kotoole7 There is no cure, only treatment. You dont take meds first and then get signs of depression or mania. There has to be some sort of symptom first diagnosed, which depending on the signs can be quite readily diagnosed, or take a long time even after seeking help. It took 10 years for my family doctor to refer me to a psychiatrist, then 2 years of therapy to get a diagnosis. You should not judge something you dont understand.
@sunshineisfine2 You should not be so blindt.. This was my major in College and have been studying this for 31 years.. more case studies than both you 'family doctor' and the idiot psychiatrist he sent you to combined. Yes by all means the 'meds' proceed symptoms, but 'signs' proceed meds.. The 'signs' as you say are signs that your brain actually functioning perfectly, signs something is actually wrong, most times that 'wrong' has to do with real sorrow over loss or the our diets..WAKE UP!.
Thank you, thank you! It is time that medical and mental illness are treated equally. I outed myself years ago on anxiety disorder to help others, and as a result it really helped me. Great PSA!
Thank you for this video. I feel the same as Glenn does. My sister has been living with this for 20 years+. She is the strongest person I know, we are very lucky she is still with us.
Very touching and very motivating. My sister has been so strong for about 20 years. I feel like Glenn, we are lucky she is still with us. She is the strongest person I know.
I saw the tv comm'l a few days ago. Thank you so much for taking a stand Glenn. Just this week the court order became permanent to restrain my beautiful (ill) daughter from my elder parents. It's not been a pretty scene. She's 31 and has no 'insight' that her brain is diseased. Her whereabouts have been unknown to me for awhile. I took the Family-to-Family course earlier this year. Many thanks to NAMI and to you. vbh btw, This is my very 1st post on youtube.
Love this! Thanks so much! I am now coming to grips with living with bipolar after hiding it from myself and others for years. It's time to lose the stigma around mental illness.
Just when I thought I couldn't love Glenn Close any more, I find she has an organisation close to my heart. What an awesome woman.
