@meenosagittarius91 and uh (sorry this is SO annoying) but I have version 9.0 of vegas... im going to try tweaking my rendering settings like yours right now but the rendering setting options i have are SLIGHTLY different (as in there are a few more options) than the ones shown in your screenshots... so I want to ask in advance does your rendering settings work on ALL versions of Sony Vegas?
@meenosagittarius91 no problem :) and well, this video was made a while ago before i really knew how important rendering settings are ^^" so when i said "default template" i meant the settings that sony vegas originally comes with, instead of actually fixing the settings to your own taste. xD but the settings in my screenshots are the correct ones for the best quality :) & to answer your other question, yes it does work with all versions seeing as i also have vegas 9 as well :3 hope it helps.
@4EverSakuraxNaruto you just mask inside like you would usually mask outside, then look to your left where it says "mode" and change it from positive to negative. ^^
@pokegirl4581 uhh well, i usually do masking to enhance my videos and such and make them more entertaining. you can do alot of things with masking, like altering a scene to make it look different by adding another character or something. masking is really good for crossover amvs too. :)
@pokegirl4581 maybe you didn't connect the anchors together. it only shows up once you've connected the paths aka the part where you started and the part where you finished. other then that, i don't know why your masking isn't showing up D; just try some different things. :3
@milicarodic no problemo. i download all my clips/episodes, recording tends to make the quality lower, and downloading is easier anyway xD and yes, i use sony vegas 7.0 and ofcourse! you can mask with pretty much vegas 6.0 - 10.0 (well, i'm not totally sure about the older versions but yeah xD)
@Chama77Aoi do you mean the shadow outline that was around my masking at the end? i used a plug-in called "vm soft contrast" you can search it up on youtube and download it :) it also comes with sony vegas 9, but i have sony vegas 7 so i had to install it.
@kittensrcute6 it's probably a glitch on the timeline, i get it alot too ;_; what i usually do is move the clip a few spaces up/down the timeline and the glitch usually dissapears. but when it doesn't i try moving my keyframes around and even ontop of eachother and the glitch goes away. just try messing around with things a bit, hopefully it'll work. :)
@popsqaud30 just add a new layer and go to media generators then add a solid color or a color gradient. or you can get some backgrounds from the internet and add it to your project ^~^
One Question: When Im Done Masking And I want to change the mode postive to negitive and the mode is stuck on disabled it wont let me change it please Help!
@colorfulchic90 you probably don't have to masking selected so that's why it says "disabled" try selecting/clicking the masking with the "normal edit tool" (the arrow) and then go to the mode and see if you can change it. ^ ^ that's all i can think of, i hope it helps :) sorry if it doesn't Dx
Um, sorry, one thing I'm having problems with...It's kinda hard to explain, but I'll try XD;;
When I'm adding the mask (i.e., adding the anchors), sometimes when I do it these little lines thingies with small yellow circle/dot things on the end shoot out and it screws up the line. I can't drag them back in, so I have to restart. It gets annoying after awhile... I've had to remask this girl about 10 times and it's just not working XD;;
@SkyShaymin277 ooh i understand what you're saying ^^ well, to avoid it shooting out you should switch to "normal edit tool" (the mouse icon) and then click on the anchor so it doesn't do that. but sometimes it shoots out even when you're masking so here's what you should do. right click on the anchor that shot out and go down to where it says "Hide Tangents" there it will have a list of things. Click on "Anchor" & your making should go back to normal :3 i hope it helps. 8D

when you trim the image and change to hold all goes perfect but when I copied it out in solid color should not get anything, why? I need your help !!!!!! D:

@javiii626 all i did was copy and paste some maskings from an already masked clip and pasted it there so i could use it later for the tutorial, mainly to make the tutorial go faster :3 i hope that's what you're asking xD
hey, I have a noob question. I can mask and all, but when i need to move the picture to mask more i move it with the that white mouse icon but when i clock the masking icon when i have moved it it wont let me continue my mask line, pleeeeeeeeease help (the anchor doesn't turn yellow it stays blue)

well after you have dragged the screen up, move around to where your mask is, then try to find the end of where you stopped masking. click on the end with your 'normal edit tool' (the white mouse), then switch back to "anchor creation tool" and then try continuing with your mask, it should work. ^-^ just keep doing that. you get used to it after a while. :)

@PkmnHikarix3 o, if you've done everything right, your masking should be fine D; maybe try moving your clip up the timeline, sometimes your masking can glitch if it's in a certain place. other then that, i don't know how to help you :S just try playing around with your keyframes ^ ^ and make sure you've done all the steps. does it lag before or after you render it btw?
@RivalryAnime i'm not sure i totally understand your question, but i'll try to answer the best way i can xD well, from what i know, the shadow effect only works when you set your mode to "Source Alpha" so maybe change it to that by clicking on the thing in your track that says "Compositing Mode" i'm 99% sure that you can't use the shadow effect when it's set to 3D Source Alpha :S i hope that i answered your question correctly, or else i'm really stupid xD

@YuiBabehx3 LOL, i totally don't mind people asking questions, so don't worry :) well hmmm.. are you sure you havn't changed your rendering settings recently? because rendering settings are really important when it comes to masking. i put a link to my rendering settings in this videos description, so just download the screenshots and try to copy them exactly, and then hopefully your masking will work again :D if not, i can continue to try to help you. but i hope the screenshots help for now ^ ^

@YuiBabehx3 aww, don't say that D; there's more to editing then masking, trust me. but it still isn't fun when it doesn't work ;_; well, have you tried moving the keyframes around to the right spot? that could always work. because after doing "disable resample" the keyframes might of gone out of place. or it could be a glitch on the timeline, try moving your clip up or down the timeline a bit. because sometimes when you put your mask in a certain spot it might lag. weird, i know. keep trying ^^

@XxCandehFlossxX unfortunantly, you do have to mask frame by frame when it comes to masking D; but there are some tricks to make it easier, like, if the next frame doesn't move much from the previous, you can keep the mask there and just move the mask points around so it fits that frame, so you don't have to re-mask it all over again. xD but i don't recommend doing that if the frame is totally different from the previous one. and i suggest you listen to music while masking, it makes it easier :)
@xAnge12 well, an easy way is to mask what you want to & then save it as a project. so if you ever want to use that masking again, just open up the project you saved it in & copy & paste it into another project ^ ^ or you could click on the top in pan/crop where it says "Untited" and save your masking frame with the save tool next to it. be sure to name it something else though, like "mask" or something xD but i suggest doing it the first way i told you so you don't have to save each frame. :)
@jinasukaloversforlif yeah, you have to mask every move of each frame ^^ i copied and pasted those frames because i had already masked them and i did it to speed the tutorial up.
But I have a bit of a problem. While working on masking in Vegas, it doesn't lag at all, but when I render, it lags. And I copied all your rendering settings and switched all the keyframes to hold so I don't understand why it's not working. D'8

Well okay so i'm masking normally and everything, I zoom in and start masking then I try to drag the screen up so I can mask more of the image, but then when I go back to the masking tool, it deselects. The small part of the mask that I already masked is still there but I can't continiue it, be cause it starts a new mask when I switch from the Normal Edit Tool to the Anchor Creation Tool. i have a problem D; when i mask normally like that it sometimes still lags... i change all the settings like on the video but when i mask some frames it's almost like there's no keyframe there, like i mask the clip and everything but it just stays the same as on the last frame, even when i move the keyframe :/ if that makes sense... ^^; xD

@mewtamara it looks like the 'soft contrast' plugin to me, that usually makes the colours brighter and gives your mask a sort of shadowy outline. ^^ not sure though xD
@erinntjie you might have a different kind of version of sony vegas. what one do you use? ^-^ if you want the same tools as me you'll need to download "Sony vegas 7.0" or get a newer version. xx

@kohane111951 you don't have to copy and paste the masked frames, i just did that to make the tutorial faster ^-^ and you have to add a new layer and go to "media generators" and there will be all sorts of backgrounds/texts you can use. and your english is fine :)

Okay, so to see where I want to mask, I zoom in really close, but then when I need to move (so I can get to the rest of the clip) I click on the "normal edit tool" but then when I click back on the "anchor creation tool" to continue masking from where I left off, it won't let me. @xxShatteredPeacez sure ^-^ the "mode" is the thing on the left right under the word "Path" you edit that by clicking on "postive" and changing it to "negative" you should change it to negative whenever you mask inside a hole (for example, in between someones arm or something)

Ah masking takes forever to do ! Specially if it's more then one frame :( i wish it followed the pixels you copied around (Moving Clip) instead of doing so many frames for a 5 extra seconds of video lol x_o Gah. @kittensrcute6 it's probably a glitch on the timeline, i get it alot too ;_; what i usually do is move the clip a few spaces up/down the timeline and the glitch usually dissapears. but when it doesn't i try moving my keyframes around and even ontop of eachother and the glitch goes away. just try messing around with things a bit, hopefully it'll work. :)

@colorfulchic90 you probably don't have to masking selected so that's why it says "disabled" try selecting/clicking the masking with the "normal edit tool" (the arrow) and then go to the mode and see if you can change it. ^ ^ that's all i can think of, i hope it helps :) sorry if it doesn't Dx

Um, sorry, one thing I'm having problems with...It's kinda hard to explain, but I'll try XD;;
When I'm adding the mask (i.e., adding the anchors), sometimes when I do it these little lines thingies with small yellow circle/dot things on the end shoot out and it screws up the line. I can't drag them back in, so I have to restart. It gets annoying after awhile... I've had to remask this girl about 10 times and it's just not working XD;;
Any Suggestions?

@SkyShaymin277 ooh i understand what you're saying ^^ well, to avoid it shooting out you should switch to "normal edit tool" (the mouse icon) and then click on the anchor so it doesn't do that. but sometimes it shoots out even when you're masking so here's what you should do. right click on the anchor that shot out and go down to where it says "Hide Tangents" there it will have a list of things. Click on "Anchor" & your making should go back to normal :3 i hope it helps. 8D

hey, I have a noob question. I can mask and all, but when i need to move the picture to mask more i move it with the that white mouse icon but when i clock the masking icon when i have moved it it wont let me continue my mask line, pleeeeeeeeease help (the anchor doesn't turn yellow it stays blue)

well after you have dragged the screen up, move around to where your mask is, then try to find the end of where you stopped masking. click on the end with your 'normal edit tool' (the white mouse), then switch back to "anchor creation tool" and then try continuing with your mask, it should work. ^-^ just keep doing that. you get used to it after a while. :)

@PkmnHikarix3 o, if you've done everything right, your masking should be fine D; maybe try moving your clip up the timeline, sometimes your masking can glitch if it's in a certain place. other then that, i don't know how to help you :S just try playing around with your keyframes ^ ^ and make sure you've done all the steps. does it lag before or after you render it btw?

@RivalryAnime i'm not sure i totally understand your question, but i'll try to answer the best way i can xD well, from what i know, the shadow effect only works when you set your mode to "Source Alpha" so maybe change it to that by clicking on the thing in your track that says "Compositing Mode" i'm 99% sure that you can't use the shadow effect when it's set to 3D Source Alpha :S i hope that i answered your question correctly, or else i'm really stupid xD

@YuiBabehx3 LOL, i totally don't mind people asking questions, so don't worry :) well hmmm.. are you sure you havn't changed your rendering settings recently? because rendering settings are really important when it comes to masking. i put a link to my rendering settings in this videos description, so just download the screenshots and try to copy them exactly, and then hopefully your masking will work again :D if not, i can continue to try to help you. but i hope the screenshots help for now ^ ^

@YuiBabehx3 aww, don't say that D; there's more to editing then masking, trust me. but it still isn't fun when it doesn't work ;_; well, have you tried moving the keyframes around to the right spot? that could always work. because after doing "disable resample" the keyframes might of gone out of place. or it could be a glitch on the timeline, try moving your clip up or down the timeline a bit. because sometimes when you put your mask in a certain spot it might lag. weird, i know. keep trying ^^

@XxCandehFlossxX unfortunantly, you do have to mask frame by frame when it comes to masking D; but there are some tricks to make it easier, like, if the next frame doesn't move much from the previous, you can keep the mask there and just move the mask points around so it fits that frame, so you don't have to re-mask it all over again. xD but i don't recommend doing that if the frame is totally different from the previous one. and i suggest you listen to music while masking, it makes it easier :)

@xAnge12 well, an easy way is to mask what you want to & then save it as a project. so if you ever want to use that masking again, just open up the project you saved it in & copy & paste it into another project ^ ^ or you could click on the top in pan/crop where it says "Untited" and save your masking frame with the save tool next to it. be sure to name it something else though, like "mask" or something xD but i suggest doing it the first way i told you so you don't have to save each frame. :)

Well okay so i'm masking normally and everything, I zoom in and start masking then I try to drag the screen up so I can mask more of the image, but then when I go back to the masking tool, it deselects. The small part of the mask that I already masked is still there but I can't continiue it, be cause it starts a new mask when I switch from the Normal Edit Tool to the Anchor Creation Tool. Can you help me? :o

@AMVmakersoulAbby ooh D; have you made the clip longer or shorter or something? that sometimes causes the keyframes to go out of place, but even if you havn't, try moving the keyframes around to see if they're in the wrong place or something, cause there could be a glitch. and does it lag in a lot of places, or is it just in certain spots? ;o *trying to figure out what your problem is* xD sorry if i'm not much help ;_;

@ShadesofpaleXx oh its and effect called "soft contrast" but i'm pretty sure you can only get it in sony vegas 9.0 but if you want you can download it if you have an earlier version of vegas ^ ^ just go to this link to know how to get it: /watch?v=qRpNOy5297c&feature=feedlik (put youtube.com at the start of the link ofcoarse) 8D and the song name is at the end of the video xD + i'm glad that this helped :) masking gets easier if you do it for a long time. (although it still isn't fun xD)

i have a problem D; when i mask normally like that it sometimes still lags... i change all the settings like on the video but when i mask some frames it's almost like there's no keyframe there, like i mask the clip and everything but it just stays the same as on the last frame, even when i move the keyframe :/ if that makes sense... ^^; xD

@mewtamara it looks like the 'soft contrast' plugin to me, that usually makes the colours brighter and gives your mask a sort of shadowy outline. ^^ not sure though xD

@kohane111951 you don't have to copy and paste the masked frames, i just did that to make the tutorial faster ^-^ and you have to add a new layer and go to "media generators" and there will be all sorts of backgrounds/texts you can use. and your english is fine :)

Hello there! :3 Do you think you could you help me with something?
Okay, so to see where I want to mask, I zoom in really close, but then when I need to move (so I can get to the rest of the clip) I click on the "normal edit tool" but then when I click back on the "anchor creation tool" to continue masking from where I left off, it won't let me. It just starts a new mask. Does that make sense? I can try and explain it better if you'd like ^^;

@xxShatteredPeacez sure ^-^ the "mode" is the thing on the left right under the word "Path" you edit that by clicking on "postive" and changing it to "negative" you should change it to negative whenever you mask inside a hole (for example, in between someones arm or something)
i'm sorry, i kind of suck at explaining things Dx just watch my video carefully and watch what i do :) because this step really helps in masking and it helps your masking look much better.

Ah masking takes forever to do ! Specially if it's more then one frame :( i wish it followed the pixels you copied around (Moving Clip) instead of doing so many frames for a 5 extra seconds of video lol x_o Gah.
