Oh my gosh, I just couldn't resist searching for and watching this episode in light of the Atlantis (hoping dearly they get back safely). This was my most favorite show for years, and I can't believe how long it's been since the last time I saw it.! I would SOOOOO watch this even today if it was airing. Some things we never outgrow.
@STIRKDAWG Super-negroid? Really? And he had nothing to do with the gun. I hope the next time something horrible happens to you, you are helped or saved by an black person. And I hope it makes you think, because you seem to be having difficulty doing so with any level of reason, intelligence, or clarity.
@didntwant2usegmail Dude, relax. The Super-jive-negroid comment and the gun WERE totally different points. I was also going to add that the gun didn't have an orange tip. Again, I wasn't making a point about the teacher in reference to the gun. As for being rescued by a black person, I'll just learn from actually BEING a black person each day when I wake up! I've been doing that for the last 32 years. And sorry, but I'm not so POLITICALLY CORRECT to ignore that Punky's teacher is very jive.
I remember how weird that day was. I was in 4th grade I think, and my old third grade teacher came down to the girls' lav to tell us. Very strange and confusing.
I was 11 when the Challenger exploded. We were out at recess. For some odd reason we didn't get to watch the launch...but after recess they sure made us watch the explosion footage OVER and OVER again.
@Mysterycat74 That's the way it goes with the space program. It happened with Apollo 13: nobody cared that they were doing it, 'til the drama started and everyone started airing footage. Sad.
After seeing this episode earlier, I've always wondered if the episode was written with having Christa MacCaulliffe appearing at Punky's career day "after a successful shuttle mission" but because of what really happened, they had to reshoot the episode to deal with the tragedy.
Haha! I remember when I was a young kid, and there was this kid in the class that wanted to be a robber. The teacher made him re-write his report. GRIN
Wow, didn't the writers check thier facts?, Sally Ride was NOT the first woman in Space, that was Soviet Valentina Tereshkova in 1963 on Vostok 6. Sally Ride was the third haveing been beaten into space by 2 Russians with Svetlana Savitskaya being the second.

think it was written after the explosion- as so many kids were effected. I was 5, had no knowledge of it till later

@adhfan75 Wow, yea--I can actually see that. This episode is more montage, rather than being altogether. Interesting point.
