When i was about 14 i had the live at sunbury 74 on cassette..i bought it because it had Skyhooks on it ..and it had the band Ayers rock doing a song called Morning Magic which starts off with this groove tht Mark lays down ..it sounded sooo good...i just used to play that over n over..that was my first experience of hearing a ''groove''
Mark was the drummer at the basement for Leo de Costa's farewell. they made a cd
its called Voodoo soul. mark is that good that not only did he play for the main backing band in "longway to the top" but sat in for at least two other groups as well.
If you want to catch him he is with Kevin Borich Express
Id give anything to have just one lesson with mark kennedy.. perhaps some day my dream may come true..I would ask mark for one lesson in the groove dept.
If I could play like any1 in the world,it would be mark.
I have never watched a more exciting & groovy drummer
Mark Kennedy became as good as he is because of not on;ly being gifted but because of hours of parctice and dedication. I Knew Mark as a teenager and lived near him in Melbourne back in the late sixties. I know how many hours of practice he put in to become as good as he is.
The man deserves the accolades he recieves he is a true professional.
@Buderimduck Yeah i can imagine how much he must of practiced. But he is also very talented because when he is playin on stage with a band he knows how to groove. And that kind of deep groove by him knowing how to transend his inner feelings thru his hands, thru the sticks and on to the drum set is something that you cannot learn. You just gotta have it. And man o man he his it in spades!
He is the best live drummer i have ever seen..he always makes you go WOW. He makes the band play better too!
about 10years ago 1 night at the basement, mark was playin with doug williams.& their was a young afro american celebrity drummer from the u.s who played a song half way thru the gig..anyway this drummer did a big solo and he thought he was shit hot!..mark got back on the drums & did a solo that blew every1 away..he seriously be-littled this other drummer..made him look very small! I think it made this celebrity realise that their r bigger fish than him in the ocean who can eat him!!!
I used to watch mark play with doug williams every saturday night at the basement.he used to blow me away every weekend..I mean hes just got the best groove around.
When he couldnt play with doug williams & a fill in drummer would play..it just wasnt the same. mark kennedy is one of my favourite drummers not only in aust but in the whole world.
Is that uncle peter prowling around in the background???
