  • omg james 28,119 views for this?! You really do have a lot of time on your hands!! Haha ;P

  • Nice Video und Musik

  • excellent work!!!well done!

  • German ppl can not to understand what we mean when we ask and speak about east and west Germany....we speak about the differences-about how one country like die Ddr can to be modern and why Bulgaria can not to be modern-why Die Ddr can to be build and why Bulgaria and Romania and Poland -they just can not...I think they can't understand that eastern governments after their unification made a bad "deals" for their own ppl...for example my country-Bulgaria

  • It's 2009. When is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall?

  • great video . i would love it if someone would do a video showing how the former east germany has changed physically and how much still looks the same. The recent history of germany has been forgotten in the usa unfourtantly .i am not a communist but i find it interesting how east and west developed differently and then uniteted . I hope things are going well in germany and that the world recession is not hurting you all too much. thank you for taking the time to make the video.

  • Hi George.

Thanks for your comment, it's really appreciated. I'm not German, I'm English but i visit Germany a fair bit. I'm studying to be a microbiologist at university but my main other interest is history and travelling which draws me back to Germany time and time again! I visited Dresden, Leipzig, weimar and Frankfurt (oder) last summer, all were in the former East. I may make a similar video soon. Thanks again, hope you are well.

  • awesome photosession!

I'm very interested in Eastgermany's history and USSR. This video takes me 20 years back :) I've been to Berlin 4 times, and i'm going there in the morning! Actually i'm going to live right at Alexanderplatz on 9th floor. Can't wait! Thanks for 4 amazing minutes ;)

  • Haha! Thanks a lot. I assume you're staying at the Park Inn? Let me know how it goes. I'm off tomorrow morning (Strange eh?) with my old secondary school to help them out for a few days. Hope you enjoy yourself!

  • Very kool video the music is perfect I like specially the fotographic effect f and old 8 mm film. I'm interested in the life on the DDR.

  • Long Remember The DDR and SED!

Comrades will never be forgotten, and one day East Germany shall return as a unified socialist Germany!

  • shut the fuck up before i beat the shit out off u amsterdam78

  • Nice work.

I know every places in this video of my Home. ;-)

Berlin... today we`re ONE City and ONE Country... but many people in Germany think in East and West category... :-(

But 5 Stars for this Video ;-)

  • What is the music theme name, dude?

It brings me my own memories stream about everything in my life. Kinda good for health :D

  • Hey, its 'Summer 78' by Yan Tiersenn - a French Musician. If you've not seen the film 'Goodbye Lenin!' i recommend it! Thanks

  • Tolles Video.

  • Nice Video well done. I grew up in East Berlin but been living abroad for the past 8 years. Personally I think it is a shame that once the wall came down they got rid of some of the monuments such as the Lenin Monument at Platz der Vereinten Nationen. Been to Ukraine in May and was amazed by how similar East Berlin was to the place. Even had a "Youth Railway" similar to the one in Wuhlheide

  • Hi thanks for the comment. Did you go to the youth railway as a kid? I was in Dresden over the summer and that was like being in a different world. I'm guesising with so many buildings built after the war they've found it hard to remove the ddr image.

  • WOW

    Emozionante...

  • Next week I will be in Berlin for some days... Can anybody say me where the picture was taken at 1:27?

I will take a lot pictures in Berlin I think. As a 17 y/o photomaniac there is a lot to see, I think ;)...

    Thanks for posting this...!

  • Hey,

Thanks for your comment. At 1:27 it is in Lichtenberg - just outside the Magdelenen (not spelt right! but similar) Strasse U bahn station near Stasi HQ. Personally i wouldnt go out of my way to find it as there are PLENTY of similar looking streets in Eastern Berlin. I can think of a similar one on Strasse der Pariser Komunee outside the Ostbahnof. I stayed in a hotel on there a few weeks ago. Hope this helps :)

  • just great

  • Very nicely done. The music is perfect. I often miss the good old days.

  • Very nice video, well done and the music choice was perfect!! some times I miss the DDR, then I wake up!

  • uhm...plumlove....you know that the wall fell in 1989/1990??

    Berlin Rocks!

  • I did check point charlie, things are better now

  • good vid... different to interpret

  • nice effect makes the picts look as if they were taken in ddr's time. i traveled to berlin in '92, but was too little to want to shot some foto of east berlin.

  • really good montage of pictures - brought back memories - thanks for posting your video!

  • excellente montage of pictures. It really made me almost travel back to the east Berlin of pre 1989.

    Bravo for your work ;-)

    Alain

  • Very interesting work! Well Done!

  • Great Video! I liked the pictures and music a lot. I visited most of those sites when I was in Berlin in 2004. It brought back the memories of that trip.

  • the soviet union will rise again ;P

  • East Germany will rise again.

  • WOW!!

hello! I'm from Mexico, and study History at university... I saw your video (it's amazing!) because, this kind of pics are really rares in American continent, they're exotic (hehehe)... so,there still are many socialist monuments in that part of Germany?? When was the last time that you were there??

  • Thanks for your comment!

There are still socialist monuments to be found throughout the former east germany, not just in East Berlin.

  • although these are of lenin, stalin etc. In areas where the majority still vote for the socialists, people campaign to keep the statues, or so i have been told. In the city of Chemnitz, the city council were going to tear down the giant Karl Marx head in the centre, but decided to keep it because it represented the culture of the ddr.

  • Generally, you can find memorials to communist workers throughout the old GDR. I was last there in Febuary 2007, but will probably go again sometime in the next few years. If you want any of these photos sent to you to help with your studying etc, send me your email address in a private message and ill be more than happy to send you them :)

  • some statues have been removed

  • Ok, thanks a lot !!! :D

I've sent you a mail, many minutes ago... it would be great get some pics...

Gute Nacht!

  • arbeiter an die macht

  • great video, but for all the people who lives in the DDR ist it a history of there life. if you think that the "Stasi" and the "Prisoners" are the real DDR, better you read a book or ask the people. The "System" of the DDR was a small part and not the life !!!

  • es war nicht alles schlecht im OSTEN.

  • oh yes, "GDR" was wonderfull... especially the wall, the STASI, the thousends of political prisoners! REALLY GREAT!

  • but be aware this was simply a video on the old east!!!

  • Ich liebe BERLIN

  • thank you for this - the images and the music from Goodbye Berlin are a nice mix. I love Berlin as it is now, and have so many impressions and memories of Berlin - Hauptstadt der DDR.

  • East Germany or DDR was a beuatiful country

  • East Germany was a Beuatiful country

  • hi! thanks for sharing your past with us.. pls can you tell me what is this music???? it s wonderful i need to know what this is.. ciao

  • I was born in Berlin,1964 and the Pictures are a part of my past.Thank you for this Vid.

  • Looking forward to see that!

  • Very nice. Are you from Berlin? Whats the name of that music? Was it played in "Good bye, Lenin!"

  • I'm not from Berlin myself, but i have visited 3 times in the last two years. The music is the intrumental version of Summer 78 by yan Tiersenn. I aimed to create my own version of the opening credits of 'Good bye Lenin!' so yes, you're correct!

  • That was really good. I went to Berlin last year and visited many of the places you have pictured. It was amazing that one wall can totally seperate a city in modern times. Its just unbelievable. I really want to go back there. After studying the Berlin Wall it makes me want to go back even more.

  • nice

  • Very nice and nostalgic picture presentation.

    Congratulations.

  • now i want to go back there. I went in winter so everything looked worse than this which was a shame. Though i never want to go back to Sachsenhausen, that was sickening.

  • Cool ! Thanks for those great picture!

  • Thankyou for comments :)

  • great job

    es liebe unsere DDR

    AND NEVER SURENDER....

  • Good work..despite the pictures were taken just recently, they seem as they were images from so much time ago. And then I think that despite these images give me the sense & atmosphere felt in another far era, I realize that the wall that divided two worlds existed no so much time ago...
