once in the Sala Chopin in Mexico City the Maestro came to play but he was looking quite physically sick. Perspiring, a fever perhaps , or extreme jet lag. But when somebody clicked the "record" button on his trecorfer , he heard that very well and wagged his finger at the perpetrator. Just a poignant detail without a punch line. His playing that nigth was mediocre , but the Mexcio City public is anything but spoiled.
Many years ago when I worked for the ABC, Badura-Skoda was touring and needed a desk at which he could study some Bach scores. He was given mine and for the best part of a week he sat opposite me at arm's length. He was the most delightful person - all smiles, humble and kind. As a remembrance he signed a biography of Brahms to me "as a souvenir". Wonderful to see him here. I doubt he'd remember me but I certainly have never forgotten him.
i met him in a masterclass and after a concert. I have a complete coleccion of his recordings signed as well. He caused the same impression to me. "He was the most delightful person - all smiles, humble and kind." 100% true
I bet he still remember you, cause after some days we met each other and he remembered my name and told me "amigo" (friend) like we were old friends.
@diletante86 Thank you for sharing your remembrance with me. Is he still alive? I met his son Michael also. Michael worked in the studio below preparing the Chopin Op. 10 No 1. He worked with a metronome and built the tempo up gradually up day by day. What a treasure to have a complete collection signed by him. Yes, he is/was the loveliest person you would want to meet.
@diletante86 During the intermission at his recital at the Sydney Opera House, he returned to the stage wearing a grey overall coat and tuned the piano himself ready for the second half! At first the audience didn't realize it was him and then when they realize, they broke out in applause!
he is a very funny man.
but also hav a look to Martins performance of this concert with an accordeon instead of orchstra

Thank you for letting us hear the entire piece. I have not heard Badura-Skoda for a long time. I think my mom met him. I'll have to ask her.
