I honesttly think its clear that the man came in bearing a chip on his shoulder. and instead of realising the judge called him 'honey'(how dare she!) to placate and calm him down, his ego took that as disrespect. The judge is fussy about how she is addressed cause she needs to maintain authority in her courtroom not because she feels the need to remind everyone she went to law school. That doctor was an overly proud man :-(

okay, the judge shouldn't have called him 'honey'. they settled that and moved past it. the point where this guy went too far was when he told the judge to "watch herself". I can't imagine any judge (TV or otherwise) standing for that in their own courtroom. The guy is arrogant, and people like that get what they deserve, and he deserved to get thrown out.

I saw the original show and the guy is a total creep. He lied about having a cancelled check and claimed that "some other tenant stole my checkbook>" He was CLEARLY lying and the audience laughed and booed. She said that she would not address the missing checkbook issued, because there was plenty of evidence anyway to hear the case. He said (earlieer in the show) "Shut your face" to the judge. He also said, "Can you PROVE it? " and "This is a silly talk show, not a real court of law." Ass!

I acknowledge that Judge Milian did refer to the litigant as 'honey' which was inappropriate in a court. However, his comment that he was born with honour, and his arrogance and egotism in telling the judge to watch herself was utterly despicable, disrepectful and inexcusable. He should have been held in contempt. Her lack of professionalism would probably stem from the fact that this is an entertainment program. (NB. the judge technically should also then be addressed as docor, as she has a JD)

The doctor adressed her as your Honor, which shows respect for her position and her title, she didn't have to be immature and tell him he has to "earn" the respect that comes with being called a doctor. If that were so, she would be given very little respect because she is an insufferable twat with "my way or the highway" attitude. He, like she, went through years to earn that title and the respect that rightfully comes with it. She's a downright bully towards the end threatening the guy.

@ljdeibel He means you're supposed to treat people with a basic level of civility and politeness (ESPECIALLY IN COURT), not just because they're popular or have a crappy people's court TV show. That's why he called her "your Honor" rather than saying something more realistic like "you showboating wannabe", but in her world it's acceptable for people of authority to throw temper tantrums and threaten tried parties because she can't handle a mature and civil tone like a real judge can.

@themasteriswatching You say this as if she threw a temper tantrum for attention. As for the manner in which it was taken, indeed she may have been informal by calling the defendant "honey". However, his disrespect and condescending tone was ultimately the greater disrespect in her domain which is the court. As a holder of a JD and many other distinctions, ultimately, she was well within her rights to throw him out in this fashion. A good 75% of other judges would have done the same.

Guys you need to understand that it is WORSE in a real courtroom. Believe me, I've been a juror a few times, and this woman is tame compared to others. And she's absolutely right to do that. You do not treat a judge like that, she is the only person whose opinion and thoughts matter. You do not disrespect the system like that.

She may make the ruling, but the best opinions are the ones that are the most informed and best articulated, and in this case, the nod goes to the man. This is more an arbitration court and since its televised, the Judge will ask questions or act out in a way that creates conflict and drama to obtain better ratings. Of course real court rooms are not conducted in such a manner since they do not rely on income from sponsors.

Honestly, I'm shaking in my shooz. Really. And to add insult to injury, I'm riding the fence on this one. The guy, is....clearly disrespectful of the proceedings. HowEVER, the judge made a coLLOSAL mistake by calling the man "honey". You can see the expression on her face when he called her on it. That's when she should have apologized, and THEN sternly reprimanded him for either interrupting her, or dissing her, or whatever. Their reactions are clearly cases of "crowd mentality" ON TV !!
