  • I`ll never get to college.......my life is ruined.

  • What are you doing here? I don't know. What are YOU doing here?

    I'm washing my back.

  • fuck the 90's!

  • One of only a few dozen movies I own. A real classic that takes me back to a much nicer time.

  • I listened to this going to sleep when I was 4.

  • What album is this song on, and where can I get it? Is it really titled correctly?

  • Wonderfull

  • The girl in this scene was amazing! She's just like the one who sits in the back of the class, never saying much, but is on fire and wants you just as badly as you want her. You'll only find out clandestinely. I know It happened to me. She/I were about 19 and I had no clue what she was like, until one night we met, talked and went up to the top floor of the college library. Then I came to know just what she was thinking. We were together for awhile and I think of her often.

  • my fave movie of all time & song from that movie......

  • almost 30 years later and it's about the best orgasmic instrumental score everrrrr !! thanks Tangerine Dream !!

  • Where did you get the soundtrack? I didn't think it had been released?

  • @Thonglaw Its on Amazon for under £5 in the UK mind you the DVD is under £4!

  • this is before little innocent tommy turned into a brainwashed psycho nut.

  • Apart from top Gun, this is Cruises best film!

  • "The dream is always the same..."

  • Great soundtrack

  • God thanks for taking me way to Tad Dream heaven............... I have goosebumps all over! What an intro!

  • Sometimes you just gotta say .....what the fuck.....

  • ZEN!

  • "Because he boffed Hendricks last week!"

  • This is NOT the original version from the movie. It was on the LP soundtrack, but the tapes and CDs - had this version. Does anyone know what I am talking about??? If someone still has the LP - download the CORRECT ORIGINAL VERSION!!! THANKS!!! Great song(s)...

  • Sometimes you gotta say " what the fuck".

  • @allbiznessboxing make your move..

  • I think during the 80's movies were driven more by the soundtrack where as today movies are big productions.

  • @allbiznessboxing 80s films were the best man including SCARFACE!!

  • @chopash Exactly

  • Absolutely 'kin terrific. The best film of pre Uni teen culture ever. The soundtrack is class.. Sadly we have that obnoxious little prick the Scientologist Tommy Cruise, as the anti hero. At the time of filming he was just a young ok guy who was a novice and got his hands all over RdM's arse and tits . Now hes just a jumped up primma donna and a total prig with his cult religious nobodies and crazy wife who insists on treating their 2 year old toddler like a 21 year old teenager.

  • @Ollfie haha that made me laugh. good description.

  • love it

  • Absolutely timeless.

Why aren't there film scores like this anymore? Music that is daring, unique, but fits the movie? Today everything is either regurgitated imitations of John Williams orchestra, or regurgitated imitations of Hans Zimmer's mix of orchestra and synths. Hollywood has no balls anymore when it comes to music in films.

  • Never seen this movie but very cool soundtrack indeed :3

  • My father has this movie at home but he never accepted to let me watch it ^^; I'm so tempted to watch it in secret and see why... The soundtrack sounds amazing :O

  • @YetAnotherMovie89 You obviously don't know what your missing mate . This is one GREAT movie. Go tell your old man he's a dysfunctional arsehole. Clearly the guy hasn't a clue. If you feel you can't do that, just nick the copy he has, wait til he goes out and enjoy . You really have no idea what void you have in your life until you watch this film.....and thereafter won't you be the happy bunny..... who'll want to watch it over and over again.

  • @Ollfie - I fully agree with you. My "subway urban experience" changed after this movie...

  • @YetAnotherMovie89 if you ever watch the movie you will know what I mean when I say to you "sometimes you got to say what the fuck". Go watch it!

  • yo pryda... This is the realist.. analogy.

  • Becky De Mornay had a hot bod : )

  • Terrific movie......Tom Cruise's finest .... the little nauseating toe-rag just went down hill thereafter.

  • This movie WAS my adolescence! I can't believe I don't have it on DVD. I'm going to get it now!

  • Atmospheric as hell. One of the 80s movie scenes you remember in your boxed out state and keep coming back to. The dream is always the same, and the memories will always be there, to be re-lived....and enjoyed.

  • hot scene...but what does it have to do with the movie??? i dont get it

  • @ChewMovieMaka if you watch the film it "should" make sense then ;)

But to give you the cliff notes ver., it was just a representation of Joel's (Cruise) fram of mind at the time. He was a normal horny teenager who also had anxiety about his future and failure...the sequence ends with him dreaming he's in class having somehow blanked out the entire test (ACT/SAT?) time with only a few minutes to complete the whole test.

It's just a little visual cue to show the inner stresses he's under :) IMO

  • This soundtrack was the soundtrack to my senior year in school... the songs still move me.

  • Why should it end so early?? It sounds like there could be 5 more minutes to this!!! Remixers/ lengtheners let me know!!!!!

  • @ngodupsangpo

This is as long as it gets.

  • 5 Stars! Man, where'd that ranking go??!! Iike/unlike is lame! This music is beyond Like/Unlike!

  • is it not the same one as this...i cannot remember

  • does anyone know what song is playing towards the end of the movie, just after his parents come home and he' s in the backyard raking leaves. Cool seen, starts with him lighting a cig and all we can see are the Raybans.

I'm almost positive it's tangerine dream as well. Thanks!

  • its a reprise of this

the dream is always the same

  • It is called "Love On A Real Train" by Tangerine Dream

  • @calmartin It's Tangram Set One off Tangerine Dream's Tangram album.

  • this has got to be one of the most evocative, sensuous and erotic introductions ever put on film. i don't think the film got anything like the praise it should have. i remember it being on BBC2 one Saturday night when I was 16 yrs old. That was when they first started putting on these big Hollywood Blockbusters on Terrestial TV. my dad came into the lounge just as this scene played out............omg the cringeing lol lol!

  • WOW!

I remember that night so well, I was 13, my bro was 11, my mum was out with her boyfriend, we were watching this, must've been late-ish 1988, it was not only a great film but so evocative, even at 13.

Yeah, it kind of changed my life, such a sensual, thick, romantic feeling to that movie, very adult, 'mature', and the music was *perfect*.

Awesome film, and *truly* happy to know that someone else watched the same film on the same night and felt the same way after watching it. ;)

  • @MovieMad007

At least he didn't ask you to move over. LOL.

  • This is one of the best opening scenes to a movie. This movie wasn't appreciated very much by people of my generation, but I feel a lot of guys can relate to it regardless.

  • Firestarter novel by Stephen King- 1980

Domu manga by Otomo Katsuhiro- 1980

    Firestarter movie - 1984

Akira manga by Otomo Katsuhiro- 1982

    Akira movie - 1988

  • One of the many reasons "Risky Business" was the best teen sex comedy of the 80's was the amazing music score by Tangerine Dream. Love their stuff, thanks for posting!

  • @Rbatty2 For me, this kind of MADE the movie what it was...a teenager's dream of sex. But it was more with this music, it was something higher, esoteric, mysterious, otherworldly...

  • @cubanbach That's interesting, I hadn't thought of it that way, nice point.

  • @Rbatty2 Thanks, well you see it was all so dream-like, magical even, for me at least.

  • @Rbatty2 ABSOLUTELY - and all the great characters - especially Lana, Guido and Mr. "What the "F"

  • @pcucsd Yes and a clever and brilliant screenplay, which even manages to satirize life in the Reagan era. Who says teen flicks have to be shallow?
