if you lounch from a pvc tube stuck in the grown or mounted on a flat board it will go much strighter up in the air it makes a big differance, keeps it from going into the ground, but don't drop the rocket inside the tube just hang it on the inside edge, hope this helps some...!
@billhaley1868 Why would there be a ka-boom? Those are called salutes and, while they are fairly easy to make, the chemicals involved are very touchy. That just screams accident waiting to happen. On the other hand, with these motors you can add coloring, stick them on an angle and attatch them on a circular frame, and you have one of the pretties fireworks ever. More work for sure, but the feeling seeing it go up is priceless.
There are books on the internet (and a really good one at a website called SkyLighter(dot)com) that tell you how to make really nice fireworks. That's fireworks, NOT EXPLOSIVES. Rockets, cones, roman candles, and even mortars. The same website also sells everything you need from chemicals to tubes.
If you take the necessary safety precautions and be careful; you minimize the risk.
Also, you're unlikely to have a finger-removing explosion with a sugar rocket motor in a cardboard tube, even if you tried. That's what M-80 and Silver Salutes are for.
you can also buy it online... its a pond and fish fertilizer. Also i know AmericaRX has it at 3.50 for 6 ounces. If its not already in a powder, just throw it in a coffee grinder fro about 10 seconds.
if you want to get potassium nitrate, every wal mart store has it. Ask for Spectricede Stump Remover and they will show you where is is. Its already powder and 4 bucks for like i think 2 pounds. Any ways check out my rocket videos
Yeah, its in the official KS Engine recipe, corn syrup contains sugar so it adds to the fuel, but its used as a binder in the recipe, but because of the sugar levels in it, it doesn't hinder the burn rate.
The diameter size of the sticks you are using may be dragging the lift regardles of the weight. Try using something that's 1/5 the diameter and you will see a difference.
Yeah, these are my first motors, and I wasn't sure if they would even work. I'm going to start testing with an airframe soon, so the sticks will be limited to testing lift/burn rates.
what is the name of the song??

The stick, yes.
The motor tubes/nozzles, only a few times.
They burn through pretty quick.

Fun rockets, but think about the fact that building your own rockets isn´t a good idea, you might loose fingers :/

Ohh yes I agree, but you shouldn´t forget the risk. It´s always a risk, and thats what makes it funny.

what does the corn syrup do? i never heard of people adding corn syrup.
mojavedude250 5 years ago
Yeah, its in the official KS Engine recipe, corn syrup contains sugar so it adds to the fuel, but its used as a binder in the recipe, but because of the sugar levels in it, it doesn't hinder the burn rate.
10g Corn Syrup
35g Sugar
75g KN03
Heating slightly helps dissolve into the syrup.
TakronRust 4 years ago
is that smoke mix or what? some people make them with black powder thats pretty neat though, ill have to try that.
mojavedude250 5 years ago
Yes, it's a KNO3/Sucrose/Corn Syrup recipe. My BP rockets still need some work.
