  • When they first showed this film, the kids and parents they showed it to, loved Bert and Ernie, but hated this

  • Okay batman

  • Is there anything Batman CANT do? lol

  • "You do know there's no such thing as a talking dog, right?"

    "Oh, sorry."

Batman likes to play fair, even when it means ratings.

  • As a clue as to when this was filmed, the LIFE magazine seen on the newsstand is the October 11, 1968 edition.

  • Haa this is funny Jon

  • LOL...Dunce wants to know where the secret hideout is, but Dropout refuses to tell, because then it would no longer be a secret! So how is Dunce supposed to drive them there to hide the newspapers?

The humor in this sketch is so wonderfully ridiculous. And ridiculously wonderful.

  • That's a really strange TV antenna that Bert and Ernie have...did they actually look like that in the 60's?

  • I believe Dunce was performed by Jim Thurman. Not so sure who was Dropout, though.

  • It's great to see GO here. The man is a genius and a nice man. By the time gary arrived in Hollywood in 1961 at 25 years of age,

he had already conquered major radio markets across the U.S,such as omaha, denver,st.louis and san francisco and would go on to become the top rated broadcaster in southern california at kmpc Los angeles.

  • This was quite a well-done production, but I can see why it failed in testing. The only educational part of the sketch (where they look up 'B' for 'Bloodhound') goes by so fast that it would be difficult for kids to remember. The letter B is only in view for a few seconds, and at an awkward angle...in most SS sketches, the letter/number being taught is displayed on the screen in plain view for a long time, and its name is repeated over and over again to reinforce it.

  • And the recitation of the alphabet during the opening credits. Educational or not, I can't see this holding a pre-schooler's attention.

It could be pretty funny for someone about 10 years old if they skipped the alphabet stuff. It reminds me of 'Police Squad' or 'The Naked Gun.'

  • Well, Ernie and Bert do take turns.

  • Mind if I link to this on the fan-club blog? My DivX version over on Stage 6 isn't downloading at all...

  • It's very hard to imagine Gary Owens without facial hair. He's best known as the first host of "The Gong Show", and the voices of Roger Ramjet, and Dirk Niblick from Square One TV.

  • Don't forget Space Ghost and the Blue Falcon!

  • @Ian16545 or Powdered Toast Man!

  • He was also the announcer on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" As in "Yours truly, Gary Owens, and Morgo as the Friendly Drelb."
