@TheKatIsBackAgain that's because this album was produced by Gregg Alexander from the 90s band, New Radicals and he basically gave Carly the same sound he used in the band.
wow and to think now she is in a crappy evanescence clone band. its people like this that i hate. unoriginal uninspired horrible musicians. and to think moody says watf are gonna be better than evanescence. ha! i wish i could spit in his face.
i would say its the pathetic lack of originality that is destorying music nowadays to be honest. bands all sound the same and if a really good original band comes out (evanescence) you get cheap rip-offs (we are the fallen). to be honest i would rather smithson stay a pop singer even though i hate this kind of music because then she at least isnt completely ripping someones style. she sounds way more distinct here.
she was 17 going on 18 thats what her mum told me.
Her mum is amazing she keeps me updated with all the latest on carly and other idols. LOL MARIE I LOVE YAH GIRL.
actually its funny becasue the first time i heard this i was like nah that aint carly, i mean the voice is amazing but its just now carlys voice is so much stronger she is still amazing. but it took a moment to realize it realy is her.
Probably the same reason the other contestants who had CDs out did: Johns, Kristy Lee, Cook and Brooke White. And that reason is so they can actually sell CDs in addition to "having one out", getting one out is one thing and selling them is quite another.
because this album only sold 300 copies and only $100,000 was spent on promotion by her record label despite the $2 million promotion reports the rest of that money went to paying for other artists on that label, and because the label was being merged she and a lot of unreleased artists were dropped and not paid.
I like the speculation about Carly pre idol and post idol. Very good points made. Same as David Cook-I predict, just based on all the attention post idol this last week and the huge number of votes that he might be the biggest idol so far and guess what? If he's had an album released at age 18-21, doubt seriously it would have been a hit. He's VERY TALENTED but the machine called American Idol is STUNNING in it's power to put someone out there. David's a gem-can't wait to see how it goes.
I actually would agree with you rachelnasution if Carly's CD gave her a competitive advantage, such a large fan base from a hit song, or something along those lines.
I honestly don't see that producing an album under the aegis of a major label, as opposed to an indie album, gives an advantage that tips the balance in any meaningful way on a TV reality show.
Conversely, someone like Archuleta who won a nationally televised talent show like Star Search has a tremendous built in fan base.
look things did nt work out for her in 2001, whats wrong in the girl havin a second chance, theres no doubt she can sing its a pity the people voted her off
i know i cant sing i dont need that chance but she can sing! why do we have to be grudge her when she has a raw talent like that, it was the record company who dropped her it wasnt her fault.
Half the Top 24 this year on American Idol have produced CD's and quite a few of them under deal from major labels. Carly Smithson became the poster child for Idol's "year of the ringer" as the blogs have dubbed it. She is a very talented singer.
But not with major label, cbotten... its ok if you produced Indy CD. You would not sing there in that stage just with experience singing in the bath tub... indeed... I would agree... Carly has incredible voice... but she should give a chane to so many millions who never even have record deal. MCA is one of major label. And YET, she should disclose it from the very beginning... I bet she would never reach top 20
I really pity her very sad journey, with the MCA promise & failure to make it big in the States. Even sadder than she was badmouthed by votefortheworst and sadly she got booted out!
Thou I think she sounds wayyyyy better rocking it out than going into the tarty pop market. Sigh, wishing you all the best Carly!
i luv carly she is the best idol eva i sooo hope she wins but hotskels theres a problem with the urls so i cant download it on to mi ipod converter can u check the url and on the other carly ones 2 plz
True but still what can you expect from a 16 year old recording a pop album with a bunch of producers controlling her songs and her image.
The style sounds like most everything else that was on the radio at the time. But still catchy (of course)
You can tell that there's definitely a really good voice in there. and it's interesting to hear how she sounded before and how she's grown talent wise.
mon dieu. i knew she worked with Gregg Alexander but didn't know any exact songs. and after the first seconds of this song i know - this is one of those songs... oh it's so good :) *dances*
HAH NO! i checked the wiki for gregg and it doesnt list this song!!!!!! it sure sounds like him... i guess it must mean i must check out more of Carly!
The description is wrong. Though she got married and registered in American Idol as Carly Smithson, she never changed her last name. Her name is still Carly Hennessy.
Lets keep her in and make history at the same time. She has the best voice there but is not going to get the votes the American contestants will as she is from Ireland. The young kids will stay on their phones till their fingers fall off her fans are older would say and will not text as much. COME ON people lets get voting for Carly...
Carly's got a great voice and will do fine regardless of if she wins or not...she is CLASSY! I really like the first song from this same album "im gonna blow your mind"..she looks great in this video and the song is hot..even today.
I am POSITIVE that I've heard this song before. My first thought was that ABC Family movie, "Celeste in the City," but I skimmed over the movie and didn't hear it. I've searched and searched and won't rest until I find it.
Hey always21 you can finally rest and you were correct. I just learned the song was played during rhe opening credits to the ABC Family movie "See Jane Date" and you can check it out on youtube.
@always21 The song was the opening number for the ABC Family Movie "See Jane Date" starring Charisma Carpenter from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel...It was a great opening sequence, which made me fall in love with the song and the movie.
I found the songwriter's website. I believe she stated that the song was used in a Pantene commercial. I can't find it, but a shampoo commercial sounds about right, I guess.
So glad you like it! It's great to share a song that I've enjoyed for almost 7 years. The album is loaded with great pops songs like this. I will post other songs from the album that aren't already posted. Thanks

not a fan of this tune... I agree with NDawn.. "na na na na na.." is very annoying. It's very, early Kylie Monogue, and not in a good way...hehe.
