Actually saw this group in a club outside of Nashville, before they got a record deal. They had a different bass player, but it the rest of the line-up was the same..Lead singer was beyond hot. They were pretty good, i remember they did "Train kept a Rollin'" by Aerosmith as an encore. Lead singer played guitar also, most of the set....man, time flies.
The only reason they made a movie about The Runaways was because they were a bunch of lesbians who meet the Hollywood agenda. They never even had a hit to speak of till they all went solo and Joan Jett had to steal others music to do so. Lita was the only one with any talent in that band and as a whole, this band was way more talented.
For me The Runaways were better.The Runaways gave birth to (2) rock icons......Vixen (o)......The Runaways have a movie about them........Vixen no movie.......The Runaways are listed more in those stupid rock magazines in various catagories.......Vixen not always......and more importantly The Runways were the first all-female hard rock band......Vixen #?.

Yes, I know how Vixen formed. I've been a fan since they hit the scene. All I'm saying is this new version of Vixen is a joke. If Jan wants to have a successful tour and bring some respectability back to the band she needs try to get the original members back. I'd bet they all be somewhat interested, especially now.
In jan's defense if you do some research it was she that recruited the original members,and they all turned on her,forget about a reunion,the only ones still playing music is jan and share the other two are doing other thing other than music,watch v h 1 bands reunited and you'll see what i'm talking about.
And Vixen will NEVER be the same without all 4 original members. Jan's version is a joke and I hope someday she see's the light and gets the original band back together. Especially with the resurgence of 80's style Metal!
I've been playing the drums for a few years but I aint got nothing on Roxy she's the best female drummer i've ever seen and could give most men a run for their money.
Vixen were the best female rock band of the late 80's 90's.
Roxy Petrucci on the drums was origionally with Madam X with her sister, Maxine, on lead guitar. (Check out the live video on you tube!)
Together with Share, Jan and Janet, Vixen really broke the myth that rock was male dominated; and basically kicked some ass with their brilliant songwriting and talent to produce memorable, appealing rock.
They disbanded too soon and left a void that nobady has filled ever since.
I can vouch for that as well, saw them live a few times and they were by far better than most the glam guy bands out on the circuit at the time. Hell the guitarist smokes alot of the main acts today, very underrated player.
Well said! Jan still tours as Vixen, but the current line up cannot hold a candle to this line up! Janet was one of the hottest singers I ever saw, but I always had a thing for Roxy. Her later double-kick, "softtail" ,chopper-forked drum set was totally kick ass!

That myth was broken in the 70s by The Runaways who were nearly a decade before Vixen and rocked twice as hard as Vxen and they were much more better musicians and songwriters.
I love Vixen but although they did prove women could rock they werent the first and they were far from the best all female rock band. Listen to the Runaways then you will see.

Respectfully, I think the Runaways are an excellent all girl band. I particularly like the song Cherry Bomb. But thse are the facts. Runaways was a late 70´s band. Vixen, a lte 80´s band. Hard Rok in the 70´s, was barely being born, In the (late) 80´s, Heay Metal was in full swing, and Vixen was the only real female band around. Plus there were 5 Runaways to 4 Vixens. If you take the pros and the cons, Vixen was better rocking and better looking female band.
@1972franky Ok uuuum If this sounds disrespectfull at all im sorry but here are the facts, Lita Ford utterly destroys Jan K at the guitar, I mean Jan is a very medicore guitar player whos solos are basic forgettable while Lita Ford is one of the greatest female guitarists all time. Sandy West is a muuuuuuch better and faster harder, and skilled drummer than Roxy although Roxy is great she is not in the same league as Sandy West.

Anyway back to comparing, both Cherrie Currie and Joan Jett are both much better singers than Janet Gardner, Cherrie Currie's is ten times more rough and rocking than Janets. Also most of Vixens songs are moany love songs, while The Runaways songs were alot more varied and about lots of different subjects. The fact is The Runaways are ten times more hard rocking and are the alround better and more musicaly skilled band .
As you know, not enough room. Lita can compose and play the guitar, but Janet can play circle around Lita, Remember her time came after Lita´s and she did more new stuff on her guitar than Lita did. Sandy was and average (at best) drummer, Roxy was younger in her day, so she had more energy and a more innovative style. Plus she came from a long line of skilled drummers...

She could also sing and did back up vocals with Vixen and she even plays bongos (Check out Vixen unplugged). Can Sandy do that, don´t think so! Yeah Roxy had the virtue of experience on her side vs. Sandy´s youth (and inexperience). Roxy would destroy Sandy "mano a mano"!

Cherrie and Joan were both great singers, but Janet´s voice had a higher octive range. She could really hit those high notes as opposed to Joan, Cherrie or even Lita for that matter. Plus Share,Vixen´s bassist is in a league of all her own. Finally, Vixen sold more records and sold out more concerts than the Runaways, worldwide, and that my friend, you can look up on the web. In short The Runaways were good (no question) but Vixen could out play them anytime, anywhere!

If you did and listend to it then you will find that Cherries vocals especialy of Neon Angles defines the words rock n roll singer, Cheries voice was alot more rougher and powerful than Janets voice. None of todays Vixen .

Maybe not since your only what 16 or 17?

Additionally, I have to say that the real Vixen (not Jan K´s actual version) did more things in less time (1988- 1991) than the Runaways ( 1975-1980). Also let me point out that Vixen´s style was more melodic, glam, almost more ballad type rock as opposed to the rebel, bluesy type of the Runaways. Glam was more instyle during the mid- late 80´s.
Man, the chorus is great. Minor chord starts it off and the rhythm guitars don't just keep holding bar chords. they actually stop and it gives it some air so that the upbeat of the 2nd cryin really hits hard. Man, a female lead guitarist is hot but that drummer...

I bought Vixen's 1st album "vixen" and 2nd album "rev it up " they were both good albums !!! and it was great to see an all girl band actually playing
i love vixen...my mom was a rocker when i was young....and my dad ..actually he was more into heavy metal kinda stuff...but anyhow i still remember these girls and they are still GREAT!!!!

Respectfully, I think the Runaways are an excellent all girl band. I particularly like the song Cherry Bomb. But thse are the facts. Runaways was a late 70´s band. Vixen, a lte 80´s band. Hard Rok in the 70´s, was barely being born, In the (late) 80´s, Heay Metal was in full swing, and Vixen was the only real female band around. Plus there were 5 Runaways to 4 Vixens. If you take the pros and the cons, Vixen was better rocking and better looking female band.

@1972franky Ok uuuum If this sounds disrespectfull at all im sorry but here are the facts, Lita Ford utterly destroys Jan K at the guitar, I mean Jan is a very medicore guitar player whos solos are basic forgettable while Lita Ford is one of the greatest female guitarists all time. Sandy West is a muuuuuuch better and faster harder, and skilled drummer than Roxy although Roxy is great she is not in the same league as Sandy West.

Anyway back to comparing, both Cherrie Currie and Joan Jett are both much better singers than Janet Gardner, Cherrie Currie's is ten times more rough and rocking than Janets. Also most of Vixens songs are moany love songs, while The Runaways songs were alot more varied and about lots of different subjects. The fact is The Runaways are ten times more hard rocking and are the alround better and more musicaly skilled band .

As you know, not enough room. Lita can compose and play the guitar, but Janet can play circle around Lita, Remember her time came after Lita´s and she did more new stuff on her guitar than Lita did. Sandy was and average (at best) drummer, Roxy was younger in her day, so she had more energy and a more innovative style. Plus she came from a long line of skilled drummers...

Also listen to some of Litas solo material for further evidence. And Roxy was older than Sandy cos the Runaways were a teen girl band and Sany West was 17 when she started and 20 when she left, and Roxy joined Vixen when she was 26 and left at 29. She could also sing and did back up vocals with Vixen and she even plays bongos (Check out Vixen unplugged). Can Sandy do that, don´t think so! Yeah Roxy had the virtue of experience on her side vs. Sandy´s youth (and inexperience). Roxy would destroy Sandy "mano a mano"!

Me on the other hand am a Vixen fan with no ties to the Runaways. Like I said in my earlier comments I respect and admire Lita Ford. But in my opinion (thats all it is, my opinion vs. yours, with some facts in there too) Vixen is / was way better than the Runaways! The Runaways were a bunch of no talent little girls, EXCEPT Lita Ford, who, in my humble opinion, is one of the best artists in history. Her music in incomparably good. Vixen is another brilliant, amazing band, and I love them as much as I love her.

Cherrie and Joan were both great singers, but Janet´s voice had a higher octive range. She could really hit those high notes as opposed to Joan, Cherrie or even Lita for that matter. Plus Share,Vixen´s bassist is in a league of all her own. Finally, Vixen sold more records and sold out more concerts than the Runaways, worldwide, and that my friend, you can look up on the web. In short The Runaways were good (no question) but Vixen could out play them anytime, anywhere!

If you did and listend to it then you will find that Cherries vocals especialy of Neon Angles defines the words rock n roll singer, Cheries voice was alot more rougher and powerful than Janets voice. Dont get me worng Jans vocie is amazing BUT Cherries voice is waaaay more powerfull and again i say unique. FACT!!!!

@1972franky And now onto Share Pederson, i will admit she is an amazing bass player, singer and songwirter (in my opinion the most tallented member of the band) but Share was the most unpopular member of Vixen and nobody really gave a fuck about her because all the fans and media was only interested in Jan, Janet and Roxy. if you look on a Vixen live show or TV show ithe camera never shows Share which shows how she was given the nod and not seen as an actual member. None of todays Vixen .

I´m a Dude in his late 30´s who has listened to both bands (all of there songs, and all of there styles). I have even watched Vixen live in concert. Jan does play circles around Lita! Lita is more of a composer than Jan, while Jan is more of an axeman(woman) Face it kid, Lita is good but Jan is in a class of her own, In fact, Lita is dead and burried! Jan is still rockin with a newer Vixen.

The Runaways released 4 studio albums and two live albums and Vixen (the good vixen) only released 2 studio albums, so tell me how did vixen do more things in their day??? Maybe not since your only what 16 or 17?

Additionally, I have to say that the real Vixen (not Jan K´s actual version) did more things in less time (1988- 1991) than the Runaways ( 1975-1980). Also let me point out that Vixen´s style was more melodic, glam, almost more ballad type rock as opposed to the rebel, bluesy type of the Runaways. Glam was more instyle during the mid- late 80´s.

Man, the chorus is great. Minor chord starts it off and the rhythm guitars don't just keep holding bar chords. they actually stop and it gives it some air so that the upbeat of the 2nd cryin really hits hard. Man, a female lead guitarist is hot but that drummer...

Great song the music is good 80's bands rock its all coming back more and more people are listening to it .
