  • that scopes so pretty I'm thinking of mounting it.

  • G'day Sootch. What was the price on that? it looks really good and i have never seen anything like that.

  • Hi, does this scope support 338 lapua magnum?

  • @TheLargeBubba thanks for the input dude

  • would that base fit onto a savage m10fcp mcmillan?

  • Wish you had a good close up of the manual and info on the various calibers. I've been thinking of getting this for a M1A but I think a good tactical scope would be better. I'm not sure if this will adequately compensate for different velocities, bullet weights, bc,along with humidity, temperature, air density. All those matter a great deal in long range shooting. I don't care much for the turrets having a cap and look to be not easily adjusted. But for $300, can you go wrong? Any comments?

  • v beautiful

  • im guessing you cant mount this on a bolt action rifle?

  • i found a new thing to jack off too

  • So for how long have you been working or Leathorwood?

  • ok what came first this or the psl scope?

  • Hey just wanted to ask you I have a airsoft sniper scope b ut I have one problem. There is a huge piece of furry dust in the middle of the scope. I have to shake the sniper to get the fur at the edge so I can see the reticle. Can you take out the lense? Please respond

  • Man learn how to not say the same thing over and over. How many times can you say the samething.

  • Is 250 Meters as low as it will go?

  • @ceadeses The cam system starts at 250m. However, you can use the upper framing hash mark as an approximate 100 yard zero cross hair for anything under 250 meters. So for hunting purposes, this scope is a good tool. Sootch also points out in another video how you can use the manual mode to use zoom either after you've ranged a target with the cam, or just lock it down and use it as a regular 2.5 - 10x scope, using the main cross hair as 250m zero, or the upper framing has as a 100yard zero.

  • @ceadeses lmao sounds gay bro

  • Thanks, for doing a video about my fathers scope. I'm happy to see that there are people out there that love his scopes.

  • god i wished i had one of those leatherwood scopes i just baught me a bushmaster .223 ar 15 that would go along great with my rifle

  • Hi Dan, I found an interesting blog on "spinning reticle" in a leatherwood scope, link at end. But it wasn't the M1000. Seeing good things about this scope. It is an interesting read. Leatherwood even responded. Looks like scope never made it to Leatherwood, only the store he bought from. He says he got a refund from the store, but later they changed their mind, so no refund? Is that true? blog at ww w. opticstalk. com /On-the-leatherwood-hilux-camputer-art-m1000_topic24440_page5. html

  • Woww. quality is fresh

  • 1:03 - Really???

  • Nice looking scope...

  • $4349.99!

  • @udannlin I think it is a decimal point off. They range from about $350 to $450 depending on where you buy them.

  • Very cool scope....

  • stumbled upon this gun porn by accident. I had no idea. I guess all this high tech murder gear is why the US won the Vietnam War, huh? Not to mention why we have so many friends in the world

  • @mattlove1 go back to russia commie! pack your bags and leave the USA for good or just die!

  • @mattlove1 LOL... Nice one. I'm from Aus and I can tell you you're right, the rest of the world does hate the US. I feel sorry for the ones like you that have to put up with all the illiterate, religious fanatical losers that seem to dominate the landscape over there... Good luck with that ;)

  • Just picked one up. Thanks for a informative introduction to my new toy.

  • This scope on a Weatherby SUB-MOA Varmint 308 Win. Someday???

  • Very nicely done. I own an AR15 in 6.5 Grendel. Our local range is 100 yds and I have no way to stretch it out to see what I can do with it. what are your thoughts about using this on the 6.5? I plan on using this rifle for shooting paper and hunting deer in SC.

  • Hey sootch00, what do you like better this or the CMR? I know they're really different purpose scopes, but just curious if you could have one all around, which would you prefer. TIA

  • What a beautiful scope. Leatherwood is an underrated company, giving huge quality for a very fair price.

Good Review as I purchased an M-1000 based on this review and have never been happier with my M1A. The ART was designed around the M1A (M-14) and it shows. I prefer rugged equipment in any weapon application and the ART is perfect.

    Thank you.

  • @PistolTeacher Hows the ART workn on your M1A/M14 so far? Im considering buying one for my M14.

  • Thanks sootch for this scope review. The Leatherwood M-1000 is going to look nice on my Rock River Arms 5.56.

  • I have a m1200 and am totally lost on how to set up the balistics and cam for my 300 winchester mag.. anyone have a video to show how to set this thing up and not waste a ton of ammo sighting it in?

  • @SIERRAHPBT there is one on YouTube for the M1000, but setting up the CAM is pretty much the same for the M1200. Just search for Leatherwood M1000 in the YouTube search.

Go to 1:36 "Setting the CAM".

Mount it, set the CAM per the instructions, boresighting is recommended prior to hitting the range, and then go zero.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hey Sootch00 always enjoy your vids.

In fact I am considering this scope based on your review for Savage Rifle 300 WSM. It has quite the kick :)

I am trying to be an educated consumer and wonder how it compares in optics quality to-

Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42 Riflescope or Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40.

    All in same price range.

I don’t want to rely on blog rumors, since you own the scope for a while now, what is your honest opinion? Would you recommend it for my rifle?

  • i was going to get one until i seen this video. just as i figured, its good for 1 round, 1 elevation, 1 type of environment, and shooting level...

looks like im going with leupold.

  • @danthman114 The Cam is designed to work with almost every caliber including a chart for various bullet weights so it's not dedicated to one round. That's the reason for the cam in the first place.

  • @sootch00 i know that part, but theres more to to shooting long range than turning a dial. if you zero it in 50* weather and travel to 105* weather. external ballistics will change. also, if you're shooting uphill or down hill and you range it at, say 500 yds and you go off what it tells you, you're going to miss.

  • @danthman114 You're right, but this gets your windage and elevation in the ballpark so the other variables can be figured in. To hit long range targets, you'll still need to know marksmanship skills, terrain effects and your enviroment..

  • @sootch00 dont forget ammo. in order to get your windage you need to know your ballistics and use cards... since you still need your math formulas i would rather just use my nightforce software...

  • @sootch00 i know, i seen that part. but, external ballistics change with the environment. and what happens when you reload to a round that works best for that particular rifle? i guess try to find similar data in that book.

  • @danthman114

what? did u even watch the vid? o well nice vid and way nice scope

  • @JonRamboCA yes. you may be able to adjust to whatever range for whatever round was in that book. but when you zero the scope with 1 atmospheric condition, it will work with that 1 condition. dont expect to take it from one condition to another and expect to hit where you aim. say youre shooting it at 800 yds with the original weather conditions at 50' ASL, then move to 4000' ASL, to a completely different atmosphereic condition and try to shoot at 800, you wont hit like at 50'

  • Comment removed

  • @danthman114 I noticed a typo in my earlier post, so I'll try again... In the example you give, i.e. different conditions regarding ASL, couldn't you use the multi-dial feature of the M1000 to account for that? So, if you were hunting in SC, you'd save a zero for that condition, and when you go to Colorado to hunt, you could save another zero using the multi-dial/multi-zero turret to take into account any impacts for elevation change of that particular condition. Thoughts?

  • @DTOM1775 you probably could but theres more to it. temp, altitude(air density), humidity, shooting up or down hill, heat of the bullet/barrel all affect flight path. if you zero it for 1 environment all that i mentioned will change, causing long range shots to change as well. another example. if you zero in the summer at 1000' ASL and shoot out to 500 yds and your hitting that 5" target and go shoot the same range and location in the winter, you WILL NOT hit that 5" target with the camputer

  • @DTOM1775 i was going to buy one for my m1a but a friend of mine had one that spun the cross hairs inside. leatherwood wouldnt honor the warranty...

  • @danthman114 let me ask you a question, what does leupold have that this doesn't? We all know that there are more variables, so does the leupold do that much more in eliminating variables? Will you get more for the price you spend on some of the leupolds? Which Leupold, that you compared in your head, would suit you better and why? Don't come in here and spout your "knowledge of shooting" without some conversational back up. How about something better, make a video about what you think!!!

  • @whiteknightef fair enough. the reason i dont want one of these is because my friends failed and leatherwood wouldnt honor the warranty. he wasnt abusing it he was just ranging the target and the crosshairs spun around. the scope im going to get is the mark 4 lrt with tmr and possibly with a bdc for my hand loads at my location. and yes i know the leupold is more expensive. i would buy a falcon menace in the first focal plane before the leatherwood...

  • @whiteknightef and one more thing, he said they have a government contract but i never seen 1 of leatherwoods scopes in iraq while i was there.

  • @danthman114 Hi there. Here is a picture of an ARTII in Iraq. I put spaces in the URL so I can post here. If you run it all together you should be able to see it. There is what looks to actually be a few pictures of the ARTII mounted on M14's over there. Obviously not the primary sniper scope, but apparently a few over there. ww w. snipercountry. com/PhotoGallery/ IMY_DSCN0179.jpg

  • @DTOM1775 that. is. beautiful.

  • Nice vid! I was curious about the scope after seeing it on Midway and you just convinced me to get myself one.

  • man im loving the leatherwoods after i seen this video a week ago and i got to shoot a bushy with the leatherwood 6-24x50 M 1200 on it and i know thats the one i want now... thanks for your great vids sootch

  • Nice overview of this unit. I'm looking forward to the "Range" review of it. If you can, try to get some camera shots "Through" the scope while on the range so as to display what we would be seeing if we were shooting through it.

Thanks again for taking time to shoot this!

  • hello Sootch00, You scared me with the cost of the scope. It is 390 +/-?? not 4,300??

  • I may be convinced. I hope it works out.

    pr4runner

  • Man that is a lot of scope.

    Stephen

  • im really looking forward to your range vid for this scope plzz hurry. haha keep up the great vids

  • Great info, please show the rest, mounting sighting it in and so on

  • Too bad i don't own a sniper rifle.... boss.

  • Sootch.....I am so darn jealous. I've always enjoyed the Leatherwood glass and have a perfect platform for that model. Guess I'm going to have to buy one. Your videos that keep showing some of the few toys I don't have are going to get me divorced ;)

But seriously, nice video Bro. I always enjoy your vids.

    Cheers,

    Mr.Wheelie19

  • Just what I've been looking for. Thanks... I will be getting one later this year because of this review.... I've been shopping for a good tactical scope and didn't want to settle for a hunting scope, glad you posted this.

  • Natchez Shooting Supply= $349

    Midway USA= $389

What a deal for what seems to be a fantastic optic. OR, go spend a grand or more for comparable mount and optics from Leupold.LOL

  • Don, love the historic info on the A.R.T. scopes! Good to see that they're still around, and pretty reasonably priced, too!

  • Very interesting scope. Thanks for the video.

  • Great vid Sootch. Look forward to your next installment.

  • I feel your pain Sootch00! No ranges in 200 miles of me longer than 100 yards.

  • hey sootch, how much does that sonofabiscuit weigh? Looks like it would be alot, but for a sniper rifle with bipod you're probably close to 13 pounds anyway right? Certainly an innovative design but also looks pricey. Thanks as always, very entertaining.

  • Great piece of gear! Thank you for sharing!

  • what about different bullet weights powder charges for us handloader and im always playing with different powder charges...i have never liked ballistic reticles specific to caliber but only for one load...you sure won't find one of these on any of my rifles...might work fine for other people but not for this guy

  • @blm148

They have other models in their product line that is "tactical Mil-dot" if this scope is not to your taste. This scope is the 2nd most expensive scope in the entire line, you should really check out other scopes in their product line.

  • @blm148 Well the original ART II was designed with the original 7,62 M80 round ( i think ) so that would have been not a variable.

Having to deal with a whole assortment of factory loads, reloads and stuff is a whole different scenario.

  • what is the price for this scope?

  • Hey, Sootch i just placed a order for this scope!!! i am putting it on my FNH-SCAR16 as soon as i get it! you just turned me into a fan of the Leatherwood-Hi-Lux line of scopes. Thanks!

  • Thanks for this video... nice detail and am awaiting on the windage and elevation video.... I can see where this would be a versatile utility tool for multiple weapons.

I'm certainly considering adding this tool to by bag of gear.

  • I have family n sc ive been to a 100 yd range near there place that was actually free you could shoot all day. Wonder if we use the same range? thats where i sight in all my rifles

  • Leatherwood makes great scopes. But I need a higher power. I need to look into these again for something above 10 power. Good review

  • I'm looking foward to seeing that scope on your Bushmaster. I've been upgrading my scopes on the AR's as I can affrod it (just bought some Burris scopes) and there's some great scopes out there but a lot of them are just too long for the M4's and look rediculous.

  • Thanks for the video, I learned a lot.

Looking forward to seeing what it can do

  • Thats a sick looking scope dude. Thumbs up.

  • Man, that shore looks great and it is great.

  • nice. and it fairly cheap

  • I am just wondering can you do a review on night vision scope please?

  • Darn, still trying to wrap my mind around how that works lol.... basically what you're saying is: You adjust the cam to your weapon, sight it in at what ever range, then you can use it on point of aim at what ever range simply by turning the wheel?

  • what is the price of that scope??

  • @Dkguerilla

you can find it for $350. which i think is a fantastic price.

  • Thank you mahalo. I didn't want to offend sootch. Just inform the people that asked or didn't know. When people hear the military uses a product they buy it just because a mfg. says that. A lot of times it's false info. Just a sales pitch cause it works. Anyways this scope would be perfect for most people. I don't think it's junk at all.

  • The mount is a generic larue spr mount. The military uses the larue spr mount for scopes. It's funny the larue spr mount is $200 more than half of this scope. Never did I say this is not a nice scope for the money. I only want to clear up that this is not currently a US military sniper optic. I would not believe leatherwood if they said it is in use with sniper teams. No offense sootch.

  • @Knightsarmamentlover Well said on all accounts.

  • It's just like red dots. You get either aimpoint, acog, elcan, eotech not whatever you want. No guys are going to want a tru-glo, tasco or leatherwood. BTW the leatherwoods are not NV compatible. Bottom line leatherwood optics are NOT used my any military branch. Do your research. You will see.

  • High dollar optics are very complex. There is way more work and features with these high dollar optics. It's not just magnified glass. You want the best of the best if your a sniper. Not a 350$ optic. The military provides the optic to the snipers so why would they pick this? They would never.

  • A Schmidt & Bender short dot cost $3,000 an that a true 1x8.5 power optic. IMO the only way to go if your wanting a true red dot and magnified scope in one. No other 1x whatever below this price even compare to it. The red dot is actually in a second focal plain. Very high tech optics. That's why military snipers use these companies over a 350$ scope.

  • The United States military does not use leatherwood optics any more. Their primary scopes for snipers are Schmidt & Bender, Nightforce, Zeiss, and U.S Optics. No military snipers would even choose this scope. These companies I've mentioned have WAY better quality optics. That's why they cost soo much more.

  • @Knightsarmamentlover I appreciate the comments and the added info. You have considerable knowledge about optics. I have to disagree with you though that these are no longer currently used by the U.S. Military, I have photos of snipers in the field in Iraq & Afghanistan with the ART Scopes that will be included in my folllow-up video. Thanks~

  • @sootch00

I wholeheartedly agree with you. One of my Friends overseas right now was given an M21 as their designated marksman (However you word that) while over there, he had to wait 4 months to even get optics for it, he said his superiors told him that they were short on scopes, and he would have to deal with the iron sights for the time being. And he was in Active Combat( the door to door stuff)....

  • @sootch00 the scopes in the pictures you see were bought by the troop that was using it. the military doesnt use it anymore...

  • @danthman114 The U.S. Military is using these as issue scopes even though they are replacing them. Leatherwood has a manufacturing facility in Oklahoma specifically for refurb and parts for the Govt contract. Snipercountry website has documentation as well.

  • @sootch00 maybe they do? but i never seen them while i was in...

  • Nothing wrong with this accurate scope for the price. Imagine with all the different rifles it would work on and time it would save switching over to another rifle! A lot of reasons to give it a try.

I'll have to get one for myself one day.

    Peace!

  • Sorry Sootch...didn't mean to turn this review into something negative. That wasn't my intent at all. I'm just not a fan of this type of scope. But I really enjoy your channel, your reviews, and most of all, what you stand for. Keep up the great work sir!

  • @MahaloMoFo Hey Mahalo, That's what the comments are for and I appreciate the input. I do have photo of current U.S. Military snipers in the field wih the ART Scopes that I'll include in my range video. I forgot to add them in this video. All is well Bro~

  • @MahaloMoFo why , do tell ...im thinking about this as a purchase. thanks

  • I am jealous of all the cool stuff you get to "play" with!

  • I bet your itchin' to go run the sledgehammer again now huh?

  • congrats! cool!

  • Just consider the original Leatherwood ART-II to be in the 2500 euros price range, at least around here... I haven't found any on Gunbroker, what's the price down there?

The M-1000 is a great no-math sniper tool. Can't wait for a field evaluation!

  • @TheHiddenPart Opticsplanet has this model fo $436 USD I believe. Not sure about the conversion rate to Euros...

  • @TheHiddenPart The ART II, which is actually the Leatherwood ART still in Military use (albeit limited), is available for about $1550 from Iron Sight Inc. The do have a website irongsightinc. com The company is near Tulsa, Oklahoma - USA. The company repairs and rebuilds several older models of scopes, including the ART II.

  • @DTOM1775 talk about an expensive piece of glass...

  • That scope looks way cool on that AR. I'm eager to know what it can do on the range. If you can equip that scope on a .30cal you outta pop an elk. They taste good.

  • simplicity is a good thing. surgical tools surgical strike.

  • i LOVE your channel.

    However:

Please at least consider getting a different song. What do they call that number? "Brain-Damage Blues" LOL seriously though . . . . It's terrible.

  • how much is something like that cost

  • NIIIIIICE! I gots me a feeling I could take out many a Polish and/or Latvian military pig from a sizable distance with that optic. Sweet.

  • Put a flashlight and laser on it and I'm sold!

  • looks awsome cant wait to see more videos on this.

  • This just seems "gimmicky" to me. Especially since there are so many variables that are present even within the same caliber. I just don't believe there is anything out there that can compete with having your own load data and being able to make windage and elevation adjustments on your own... This looks like another product for people who think those skills are too hard to learn.

  • @MahaloMoFo The ART series Scopes have been in use with U.S. Military Snipers since the late .60's and now in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't think that's a gimmick.

    I

  • @sootch00 We'll agree to disagree on this one Sootch. I'm not saying its junk, just that I don't think most military snipers would pick this scope to go to combat with. And now being made in China, I question the reliability. Especially on a BMG. I've owned a 50 cal and with the way this thing mounts, it doesn't look like it would last 5 rounds...

  • @MahaloMoFo my leatherwood m1200 lasted about 10 rounds before the windage knob fell off. and being active duty infantry i have never seen one on our rifles. nothing but leupold scopes.

  • @VIDAR870 I've never heard of one in use myself. I don't claim to be a military sniper but I've known a couple and with all the random gun talk over the years, this scope has never come up. But like I say, my intent isn't to trash it. I just don't think this should be marketed as a "sniper" scope. Leupold, Nightforce, S&B, USO, etc...those are long range optics.

  • @sootch00 But then again the military only take the contract of the lowest bidder. And that's not always the best piece of equipment. But video. I thought the scope was cool. Keep up the good work sootch00.

  • @sootch00 he means the art scopes are easy to use- which is why our military uses them. it

  • @sootch00 because you see m14 with ART scope..dont mean they are sniper....probably operator is using his own scope

  • @MahaloMoFo haha sootch owned u jk

  • @MahaloMoFo its not a gimick , its basic math of two know amounts.

  • @767dag I think it would be an ok scope under optimum conditions. But when you start to factor in changes in elevation, shooting angle, humidity, etc, I think it starts to become unreliable. Not to mention, there are great variations even within the same caliber. Different bullet weights, 300-400fps in velocity... And you will get things like that with long range loads. Like I say, its ok...but you won't find any military sniper using it as their "go to war optic."

  • Looks a wee bit bulky. I like these scope reviews, you don't see them as often as knife and gun reviews.

  • awsome vid. awsome scope

  • I've had 1 of these on my 6.5 Grendel, 24" Overwatch, by Alexander Arms. We shoot 3" group out to 1000m. It took a little bit of adjustment to get there, including the shooters mindset, but it can be done. great vid Sootch, keep up the hard work.

  • had an M-1200 6X24X50 on a M1A and was sighting it in and the windage knob fell off. lost all faith in leatherwood. made in China printed on the bottom,

  • trigonometry at its best

  • Uh... This is gonna leave a mark on your wallet when you get something to go under it! I "need" one of those. Good stuff! Later.

  • that thing is a beast!

  • might sound stupid but... does the scope adjust for range? I know you said bullet drop, but can you like set it for 200, 300, 400 etc yards?

  • dang, that thing looks awesome sootch!! btw i love your appreciation for things used and proven by the military.

  • this is great info about scopes, keep it coming.

  • I think Sootch has a spring in his step recently. Maybe it's cause of the TNP shoot.

  • very cool, i can't wait to see this in action - a very interesting concept!

  • Nice review. Hope you do a follow up at the range.

  • Great Video!!!! Looking for more, good review and a great scope. Thanks

  • Great review, can't wait to see it in action. Thanks sootch...

  • Second type of cool =)

  • it beautiful, your not helping my pocket book :)

  • that scope looks nice

  • Great looking optic Sootch. Thanks for the looksee.

  • I got no beef against you or the cool optic device...But what are the benifits from the auto ranging feature if you shoot different configurations of the same caliber projectile? My idea of a work of art is a precision punch profiling fixture! lol!

    Peace!

  • Sweet scope. I am a huge fan of my Shepherd 618-V1A, one shot zero, and incredibly easy to use. I don't much care for math when shooting... ;)

  • Sweet! I will be following this closely as I have a .308 build coming up soon.

Good stuff Sootch. I bet you were excited when that package arrived!

  • @USNERDOC 308 build, now you've peaked my interest.

  • Looks like I'm in for some Overtime. Nice scope and as always a great review.

  • Im digging this for my Rem 700

  • Why are you trying to spend my money Sootch? I do regret letting go of my 2nd gen version of that lil guy. Remeber to store a copy of the chart for 7-8 years down the road.

  • I'm concerned about the robustness of that "do not touch" knob, other than that it looks cool.
