It amaze me to see reputable coffee companies tell me that storing your coffee in the freezer will keep it fresh for longer time and that coffee in 8.5bag with one way valve can stay fresh for a month or longer.
Hello I'm not stupid and I don't want to buy 8.5oz(250 grams is the usual size here in Iceland) of stale coffee beans for over 10$
@klarinetta I agree! It's frustrating to pay any amount for already stale beans! The best bet is to only buy coffee from a roaster/store that prints the "roasted on" date on the bag, and drink what you've purchased in 2 weeks. Freezing is only a second option for fresh coffee if you can't purchase what you buy while it's fresh, but like anything you freeze, coffee detriorates in quality when frozen.
Glad that you mentioned compost as a way to dispose of the stale coffee (and used grounds, too). Every Spring & Summer I make something called Compost Tea to spray on my garden plants to stimulate growth. A couple handfulls of compost put in a paint strainer bag & steeped in a 5 gallon bucket of water, an air pump with air stones to oxygenate the water for a few days makes a wonderful compost tea.
However, my compost has so much coffee grounds in it that I now call it my Compost Coffee!
unfortunately not available in Germany :(
