I'm (though a very bilingual) French Canadian and I understand Neil Oliver just fine. In fact, the Scottish accent tickles my ear in a most pleasant way.

This series is great! I bought the book just last week and it is beautifully written. If only all history books were as poetic!

I watched this series and think the "compere was a mistake. He isn't a proper historian. Indeed he rubbished earlier history opinions. In the 17th century he disdained the Covenanters and said "Thank God it is no longer God's country." The aftermath of the Revolution of 1688 was tagged with the bigotry label on the people which could be more attached to king James. Oliver is too bias opiniated and less of a proper historian. His view is a warped and personal one not objective at all.

It's funny that a minority of Scots buy into the myth of Britishness (only about 3% according to polls). There is NO such thing as Britishness and never has been, it is just Englishness writ large.

I don't think that subtitles are a problem. The accent isn't that strong, but helps people who are deaf or who can't speak good English.

If you have a problem, piss off. I put subtitles as it's strong Scottish accent. But obviously you are too daft. And youtube is open to the world, so it helps people to master English this way, duh!
