Instead of calling the curls a c on their side, you could say they are similar to ribbons, with a ribbons effect where some of the ribbon show and other parts are overlapped.

@lilBbear3 I think it's because those drawings are more important, you know because they go into his book and stuff, so he needs them to last longer and look cleaner. His drawings for his videos aren't important in the sense that they need to last or look good scanned onto a book.

The shape resembles more of a m-letter put to it's side.

Hair is tricky, it takes some experience just to make it look flexible with the motion of the character. Compared to this my renditions are rather crude.

@AbbyVolleys4life I laughed at this. there is a lot I noticed in his technique that he didn't mention. for example he left the middle of the straight hair to the top mostly one whole part. it only become strands fromt he middle down. also, as a general rule, it's good to add some single line strangs of hair, after you are done with the bulk shape. hope this helps!
