Nick's not doing it to earn God's love. There's nothing we can do about that. God loves us all, so much that He gave His only begotten Son, and He desires our love. To redeem us, Jesus had to pay for our sins. Nick is preaching this, and through his life, God is using Nick to touch lives and reveal His glory. Sounds crazy, but you have to admit, for someone like Nick to still desire God, makes you wonder why, or else you wouldn't have posted. If you seek Him, He will reveal Himself to you, too.
