I just watched the movie I ordered from tv. IT IS GOOD. I had tears drip down my face 2 times and i couldn't hold anything back the 3rd time. I respect all the soldiers for I am joining the Marines in about a year.

Things like being stop lossed wouldnt have to happen if the U.S. Army could get their act together and let people serve openly. Europe has done it and they are still just as strong as they were before, if not stronger. I completely support our troops, they risk it all for us everyday. Stop Loss aka the "Backdoor Draft" sending troops involuntarily back to the sandbox. Involuntarily because when you enlist you sign a contract, the Stop Loss program actually extends that contract without your consent.
actually on enlisting into the Army you have an obligation for, say, about 3 years than you can get out of the Army, but you are made to understand that during times of war they could extend your time.. that almost happened to my dad...i have 2 sisters and 3 bros in the Army and i know how it is! and am freaking proud of them. im going in as soon as i graduate.

Actually, Seiven it is called "stop loss" The term refers to them stopping you from discharging from active service. This movie disappoints me. I was "stop-lossed" nice catchy phrase but in reality it's called "Recalled" from the IRR to go back into the Marine Corps. I knew when I signed my contract it was for 8 years not just 4 years active and that I could be recalled at any time while in IRR. I bitched about it and dropped outta college. But I didn't cry like a baby and move to Canada.
ugh- We've had too many war movies lately. Can't the studios get the message that they don't make a profit? Though I do agree with a film addressing the issues behind the stop-loss policy.
The other war movies targeted a different audience. I'm interested in seeing if the MTV generation has more interest in this topic when the young cast is easier to relate to and the movie highlights some major issues about the current war.
That being said... I think this movie will be very good. The stop-loss policy is one of the most oppressive and unfair things are government has. It's sad that our voluntary army can force people to stay.
I beg to differ with the post by Vexis stating that under Hussein Iraq was "stable" and "smooth". Now it is shitty, but it was bad before, worse I'd say. People make a huge deal about the several thousand civilian casualties resulting from the US campaign... few people say much about the UN estimate of 600,000 deaths under Husseins regime. Purely by the numbers, now is better. But that doesn't mean NOW is good.

Can we all agree that expecting to go home and finding out you can't sucks?
Saying people who joined up deserve anything they get is not helpful. People join up for honorable reasons, stupid reasons, brave reasons, cowardly reasons. You can say the same thing about teachers, or doctors, or firemen without insulting the profession.
But when you say all X's are Z, you're stereotyping.
It won't be easy, but let's all try to avoid making blanket generalizations like that.

yeah one of my best friends has been over their for almost 2 1/2 yrs. He comes home for like 2 months and has to go right back. His gf and him have a 1 year old and he's barely seen her. That's just messed up. I respect what their doing I just didn't think that it would last this long.

War was 'declared' 'against' Iraq. How can you have victory in a War that is one sided and is an invasion. This is a Catch 22. The war on terror will never end. Its an invisible force where anyone can be labelled a terrorist. Its used as an excuse to have power over as much´as the globe as possible. I love the US but the Government is hurting the country.

Soldiers are the most overlooked and screwed over people who sacrifice everything for their country. Don't make them fight for a cause which is lost or wrong. Don't you think it's time to bring them home from Iraq?

Stop Loss aka the "Backdoor Draft" sending troops involuntarily back to the sandbox. Involuntarily because when you enlist you sign a contract, the Stop Loss program actually extends that contract without your consent.

actually on enlisting into the Army you have an obligation for, say, about 3 years than you can get out of the Army, but you are made to understand that during times of war they could extend your time.. that almost happened to my dad...i have 2 sisters and 3 bros in the Army and i know how it is! and am freaking proud of them. im going in as soon as i graduate.

Actually, Seiven it is called "stop loss" The term refers to them stopping you from discharging from active service. In your case yes, you did 4 active, and 4 IRR so in your case recall is the correct term. Get your terms right at least before a Marine goes popping off about a movie based on the US Army.....Jarhead

This movie disappoints me. I was "stop-lossed" nice catchy phrase but in reality it's called "Recalled" from the IRR to go back into the Marine Corps. I knew when I signed my contract it was for 8 years not just 4 years active and that I could be recalled at any time while in IRR. I bitched about it and dropped outta college. But I didn't cry like a baby and move to Canada.

The other war movies targeted a different audience. I'm interested in seeing if the MTV generation has more interest in this topic when the young cast is easier to relate to and the movie highlights some major issues about the current war.

That being said... I think this movie will be very good. The stop-loss policy is one of the most oppressive and unfair things are government has. It's sad that our voluntary army can force people to stay.

I beg to differ with the post by Vexis stating that under Hussein Iraq was "stable" and "smooth". Now it is shitty, but it was bad before, worse I'd say. People make a huge deal about the several thousand civilian casualties resulting from the US campaign... few people say much about the UN estimate of 600,000 deaths under Husseins regime. Purely by the numbers, now is better. But that doesn't mean NOW is good.
