  • O great !!!

  • Dear Bryan,

Thanks again for your kind comment and visiting all my videos, and listening to all my songs!!

I played each song with a lot of pleasure, and I enjoyed it very much!!

I play my chromatic Harmonicas since January this year, so I am just a beginner with these instruments you know, for each song I have to practice 5 or 6 weeks, 2 or 3 hours a day, because I want to play all my songs without any off-key notes and in the right tempo.

    I use a metronome now.

    I wish you well,

    Bye Chris

  • again, nice playing i love how u play, sir! keep those videos running!

    i say u are a proffesional.

    greetings,

    bryan

  • Hi Ben,

    I hope you are well!

Thanks very much for your kind comment.

I played this song because I am a fan of Toots Thielemans, a worldfamous harmonica-player as you know.

I play my chromatic harmonicas since january of this year, and I constantly try to improve myself. At my last vido "Abide with Me" I used for the first time a metronome, and as you can hear I play the tempo much better now.

At the moment I am practising the song "The Rose" from Bette Midler.

    Have a nice day,

    Bye Chris

  • Nice playing sir :)

  • wow,

you can play on different key!

  • Dear Theodora,

Thanks for your reaction, very kind of you.

I played this song on my favorite chromatic Harmonica SCX-64, 16 holes, 64 notes in Key of C, with 4 octaves, so: note C very low, than note C higher, than note C more higher, and than note C the highest, just as I explained you yesterday in my other messages to you. Did you receive these messages in your YouTube-Inbox?

I am glad you enjoyed my song and playing!

    Keep on harpin.

    Greetings Chris-The Netherlands.

  • Well played in English sir.

With C higher he means, C1 which the lowest, C2, C3, C4. Now everybody will understand it

    Greetz.

  • Hi Laurens,

Thanks for your comment about playing my song,

and thanks to for your explanation about playing this song in several octaves.

You are right, everybody will understand it now.

    Greetings Chris.

  • Hi. Nice to hear you posting yet another song

in your progression. I'm not familiar with the

song so I couldn't comment on note acuracy.

Sounds OK. Good tone. Do you tongue block?

This is good to learn. Helps with the wavering. Happens to us all. I would work with

a metronome to help with timing and phrasing

within the bars. Little pauses or offbeats can

give character and develop individual style.

    Love your progress, Dave

  • Hi Dave,

Thanks for your kind comment and advise, I appreciate that. Today I start to practice the exercises in the scale of C, exercises with thirds, just as Marcelo mentioned, because I want to improve my playing. Therefor I like the criticism of you and Marcelo, because you both have a lot of experience at playing the harmonica, I can learn a lot of it. I consider to buy a metronome to help with timing and phrasing within the bars.

    Wish you well.

    Greetings Chris.

  • Hi Chris in reply to Daves comment you can download a number of free metronomes from the internet. Type in Metronome Freeware in your browser and you will see a number of sites. I looked at Dirk's Metronome 1.0 and it looks OK for you, Warren.

  • Hi Warren,

Thanks for your tip, I will keep it in mind!

    Bye for now Chris.

  • Hi Chris, I forgot to mention you will at sometime need a tuner to tune your Harmonica. A good tuner will have a metronome built in and these days a relatively inexpensive. Cheers Warren.

  • Hi Warren,

Thanks for your tip again, I did not thought about it, I will keep it in mind.

    Bye Chris.

  • Hi Chris, It is good to watch someone progressing on YouTube. It is like watching a small child growing up firstly crawling and then standing and then walking. You have bypassed crawling and gone straight to standing. You remind me how I was when I first started playing the harmonica. Thanks for the inspiration to keep practising. By the way good playing. Cheers Warren.

  • Dear Warren,

    Thanks for your kind comment.

I really practised my heart out to play this song. Today I start to practice the exercises in the scale of C, exercises with thirds, just as Marcelo Batista mentioned, because I will try to reach a fluence in my playing, and I want to make progress to!

I know, when I want to improve my playing I must practice a lot, that challenge I take up.

    Have a nice day.

    Greetings Chris.

  • Hello Chris.bravo for this interpretation of a music that I did not know pas.Tu increase the difficulty by changing octave.c' is rather hard because one needs a good location of the notes..ça deserves 5 étoiles.continue to play tous.les.jours, C ' is the best means of progressing quickly. Good evening Mick.

  • Hello Mick,

Thanks for your kind comment and your 5 stars!

Indead, I increase the difficulty by changing the octaves, it was very difficult for me, but I wanted to take the challenge.

Because I want to make progress I will play my harmonicas every day, you can count on that.

    Thanks again and goodnight.

    Salutations Chris.

  • Chris, your effort is valid. Continue with pure notes. Try playing with an harmony (base), but, first, you must practice a lot of exercises in the scale of C, for example: exercises with THIRDS:

CDE,DEF,EFG,FGA,GAB,ABC(UP and DOWN) inside a binary beat, for example. This will give you a FLUENCE on your PLAYINGS. You must considerer the TECHNIC, but a little of elementary theory, too(not necessary for a amateur read the music,). Greetings from Brazil .Congratulations.

    LEMBRANÇAS DO BRASIL.

  • Hello Marcello,

Thanks very much for your comment and your advice, I appreciate that, and I learn a lot of it!

I really practised my heart out.

It's clear to me what you mean about the exercises in the scale of C.

I am trying to reach a fluence in my playing,

therefor I am grateful for your advise.

Wish you a lot of success at playing your harmonica.

    Greetings-Chris.

  • I got involved with the clarinet when I was young and I remember that the thing than made me improve the fastest was scale practice of the type Marcelo has mentioned. I have been looking for practice scales for the harmonica but havent had much luck so far. I guess I will write my own.

  • Hello Ron,

    Thanks for your reply.

The clarinet is a very beautiful instrument.

Tomorrow I will start to practice the exercises in the scale of C, excercises with thirds, just as Marcelo has mentioned.

Perhaps that Mr Kyong Lee (channel khlnm)can give you information about practice scales for the harmonica.

Wish you a lot of success!

    Greetings Chris (The Netherlands)

  • Nice job Chris. Do you switch back and forth between the Suzuki and the Hohner? They definitely have a different sound.

  • Hello Ron,

Thanks very much for your quick reply to my new video.

I played this song on my Suzuki, because I wanted to play the song with a small scale of note-changing.

Therefor I used my Suzuki, which has 64 notes,

instead of my Hohner, that has only 48 notes.

Because of the note-changing my Hohner was less suitable for this song in my opinion.

Some months ago I bought the Hohner CX-12 especially for the different sound.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Greetings Chris-The Netherlands.

  • I can tell you have been practicing. Very nice song, I've never heard it before. Beautifully played. The only constructive criticism I can offer, is that sometimes on the long notes they seem to waver a bit rather than vibrato (but I'm not sure if that's supposed to be the style of this song). I've been working on vibrato and I've noticed that happens to me sometimes, but in my case it is definitely unintentional. In any case, it did not distract from the beauty of the song. 5 stars. :)

  • Hello Valerie,

Thanks very much for your very quick reply !

I am glad you liked my song.

I really practiced my heart out to play this song without any off-key notes.

About the wavering notes I can tell you that this is not intentional, but it is caused by my way of breathing, I am working on it to improve it!

Thanks again for your comment and your attention.

    Have a nice day.

    Bye for now - Chris.
