The Greatest RPG on the ps2 hands down and my favorite game . The soundtrack is incredible , the atmosphere is dark and impressive , the art direction is cool and the flow of gameplay is smooth as fuck. Persona 3 and 4 were good games but nothing compared to Nocturne. I got tired of all the social link BS after a while in Persona games. The people in persona after a while look like little dolls which really takes the edge off any darkness in the games. In nocturne you're fucked and know it.

This game is too damn hard core. I'm finally starting to have trouble now. I tried to fight Daisoujou (The Monk at Ikebukuro) and got my ass kicked really bad. Right now, I focus on physical attacks, but I have War Cry and Fog Breath as de-buffs and Focus for buffs. Any recommendations as to what would be a good main character set up?

Shin Megami Tensei is the main series with Nocturne being the third in the series. All other SMT's are side-stories/games and use all of Nocturne's demon models while adding a few new ones to the mix. Until SMT4...you won't see a design change.

I like this game! Completed it several years ago when it first came out. It's post-apocalyptic theme and multiple ending is very engaging and you even get to fight Dante from DMC! Try finding all the magatama to unlock Masakados, the best magatama of the lot. It helps a lot if you plan on taking on Lucifer.

i like the story but it seems it doesn't want you to finish it. it's fucking hard, everytime you level and think it's good enough for the next is crap. enemies have very high damage and very frequent random encounters.

hm, could be hard if you don't know the language. You need to know exactly what you are doing. There is no room for errors. It is a very challenging game and the instructions and hints it gives you are important. So I would say the limited edition is probably a nice to have, but not the best choise if you actually want to play it and have fun...

I agree. MegaTen is NOT a serious for you regular RPG player. It's not a conventional RPG and it involves terms that are, to speak bluntly, way too dificult for the average RPG Player to access. But hey, PERSONA3 is always much easier than Lucifer's Call or Digital Devil Saga.

A word of advice right here. MegaTen is Hellish. It will keep you awake at night. It will haunt your very childhood memories. It'll probably have you lock yourself indoors for weeks afraid of civilisation itself. That games are hard enough to have you want to commit suicide. If you are into RPGs like Kingdom Hearts or FF-X, do NOT get even REMOTELY close to the MegaTen series. It'll make you lose, cry and believe me, it can depress you, no joke. So have fun.

I've played Xenosafa, I'm a lvl 80 Orc Warrior, and I've watched Dark Alliance being played, and I didn't find parts or similarities from either game whatsoever.

I do hope you try it out, and if you like it, then by all means DO come to me. It is always good to have someone slightly intelectually gifted to speak to about it.

So, if you STILL want to try the games, especially because you said (between the lines) that your RPG skills aren't very sharp, then I would advise youto try Persona3 first, as it isn't as "obscure" as the ones before, and significantly easier. I am PROUD (no joke) to say I 100%ed every MegaTen game up from Lucifer's Call to Persona3, so if you ever need some help, gimme a call. And yes, I do realise I talk very fucking much xD.

In all the Shin Megami Tensei games, you get to side with either Lucifer himself (Chaos) or the Absolute One/YWHW side (Law). Though you can be neutral if you want but what's the fun in that?
