I think it´s not good, that your foal have to jump so high for his age... i think foals can free jump, when they are two and an half or three but not with this age!
To everyone going on about the "abuse". If the colt didn't want to jump, then he wouldn't have jumped. I've seen foals playing around and jumping whatever they could find. Calm yourselves.
this is stupid its just a foal and its bones arnet mature yet and for the people who are saying "oh its just one jump it wont kill it" are probably right but it cud do servere damage to its bones and it cud develop arthritus erlier that normal and yeah they do jump around in the feild but its very different to this.
First of all, it won't cause damage to the horse's "bones", if it did any damage at all it would have been to the muscles. Second of all, I don't see how jumping around in the field is different to this at all. As an isolated incident, no it wouldn't do any permanent damage. Regular jumping session like this can of course lead to problems later, but we don't know the owner or the foal. So honestly, stop judging, it's so pointless.
have you ever seen a mustang???? they jump ALL SORTS of obstacles in the wild, even if it is giant. the foal is athletic, and out in the wild, all horses need to be able to jump anything. it is instinct. if they can gallop within hours of their birth, will a couple jumps really hurt them????
ok folks let's review something about foals... in the wild foals jump all the time. They either do it or they get left behind. and quite a few of them make it to adult hood and live. So RELAX
my mum says its bad for the foals joints since its weak still but i suppose its only one jump but b careful one jump can be his last jump i dont mean death ( that wud b awful) im mean bones cud break
ach so ein Quark -.- dem Fohlen gehts doch gut und wegen einem Sprung meine Fresse ohne witz regt euch nicht immer so auf das Fohlen hätt ja nicht springen müssen ;)
okay. horses dont go in their pasture and start ramdomly jumping the fence or any obstacle in the feild. haha! the reason this foal jumped was because at 4 months, they usually dont want to leave their mothers side. if yall didnt know that. he was probably sore later aswell.
wow this baby is so cute:) Pshh for all of you people saying this will harm the foal your wrong , you think horses and foals in the wild dont jump stuff as high as that? this is barely a 3 foot jump geez. i WISH my mare could jump like that! you all who think yob know everything and are saying this could harm the horse shut up, this is perfectly fine.
tbh the foal woulnt of jumped it if it was 'in pain' If it was in pain im sure the owner as enough knowledge to stop it if it hurt they have enough to breed it,... get a life you lot x
to the people who say it could have seriously harmed the foal, do you ever think about if they were wild? maybe the might have to jump things to escape danger?
there is nothing wrong with this. if the foal didnt wanna jump it, he would not have. and clearly this colt knows what hes doin cuz i only seen pro horses jump with that kinda form
This is horrible, this could have potentially ruined a very talented young horse. And yes it was ''just one jump'' but ''just one jump'' could have potentially moved the joints and stopped the correct growth of this horses bones and the strength of the ligaments and lions would have deterriorated. It is an un-developed horse, the tendons could have snapped and will break or get ruined if this is done on a regular basis.

My pony's breeders have a hill farm - their ponies run and the foals learn to jump from day one and jump anything in their path. My pony was gelded early (literally a couple of weeks after being weaned at 7 months) because he kept jumping in with the Shetland ponies they had at the time! And a field fence is about 5'! He's 18 now, sometimes jumps out of his field (the highest he'll jump with someone is 3', but only because he's lazy) and he has no problems - 3 boughts of lameness in 8 years
People, it was just ONE jump. The foal will live...JEEEZ! I'm pretty you all have done some pretty stupid stuff that could've harmed your own horse. Its not the end of the world...
@sango1161 You should not have been putting that kind of pressure on his Cannons. He's underdeveloped. Have you watched 'Natures Giants' about horses. That is out of order. All he was doing was following his mum x
Good lord people, you see one five second clip where a foal does one jump, and suddenly it's abuse? Get a life, foals run and jump on their own all the time, and you have no way of knowing whether or not the owner works this foal like this all the time or not. Complain about real abuse, not one baby making one jump behind it's mother...
@xxibitsuxx thank you for talking sense, you're completely right, one jump isn't going to change the world- and after the jump it cantered away happily and it wasn't limping so it obviously was ok guys - take a chill pill ...
@Technology102 Actually i have worked with horses my whole life, im a mounted police woman in NY. I agree that they should not jump excessively until their joints and muscles have fully developed. But a jump here and there is not going to kill them unless they land wrong or something. I think the jump IS a little high for a foal this age, but if the owners jump it a lot at this young age it will do damage in the future. They are going to jump on their own anyway, so once in awhile wont hurt.
K for everyone who is saying its a bad thing are kinda being right but wrong yeah they are developing and who knows if it will actually hurt them , BUT foals jump and kick alll the time in the paddocks, so its a natural thing so leave your comments to yourself if its their horse then its their way of training it!!!!!!!! and if it were hurting the foal then it probably wouldn't be jumping that so willingly!!!
@HunterJumper9x11 but the horses in the wild is NOT like ridinghorses.. A ridinghorse would not live for a long time in the wild (bad english, sorry... im norwegian)
Ok, THIS is bad for a horse under 6 months old....you shoul dnot even free jump until the age of 2.....unless you want to wreck the horses back.....and i know what i am speaking of seeing as i am a horse trainer myself
Oh my goodness, ya'll are really all trying to sound like "horse experts". OBVIOUSLY if a horse is at the kind of center with that kind of a jump and what appears to be very good (and expensive breeding). Do all of you realize that the PROFESSIONAL that put up this video probably has at least 15+ years of experience around horses than you do? You all sound kind of ignorant repeating what the last said....it doesn't make you look smart...
i really hope you did not just set that jump up out of the blue and tell themare and foal to jump it...... its really not good for the foal.. even if they do jump all the time this can still mess up their back. the foal couldve trippped or landed off and broken its leg. be more careful when you try to post a video
@ariprinz foals jump all the time in the field, 5 years old is WITH A RIDER, and even then some horses mature faster then others and can jump sooner... a buck puts just as much strain on limbs and foals buck all the time while playing... and anyways, this video is 3 years old, your need to comment on 'in the future' is somewhat irrelevant XP
@MattysLilMello yes but they jump like that and this person probably has done this more than once. and also it is for general knowledge for people like you who dont know.
@ariprinz EXCUSE ME? are you accusing me of not knowing something? You don't KNOW me, so you have NO right to say I don't KNOW something... foals jump ALL THE TIME even without a jump under them, they jump shadows, taller grass, a bunch of things... maybe this height is a little much, but the act of jumping has no effect considering bucking has the same strains on a horses legs! DO NOT assume ANYTHING about someone you don't know, okay? thanks...
@MattysLilMello they are naturaly jumping things in your example there is nothing natural about this, you should wait untill a horse is completly developed, earliest 4.
@MattysLilMello well most foals wont jump over an object over two feet in the wild they will probably go around it, and since there are not many horses still in the wild.... also when people have a foal in the pasture they usually dont have things the foal can jump. even if they did the foal would mosy likly not jump it.
Aber ich glaub wenn das schon so mit 3jahren oder so gesprungen wird ,kann man dass mit 7 oder 8 jahren nicht mehr springen wenn das dann nen sehnen schaden hat :/
@OneDayEventerX And I do agree that they could have lowered the jump and still be able to see this foal's jumping potential, but I still don't see a problem with this if done once or twice.
@OneDayEventerX I know wild horses aren't natural jumpers, but we have bred certain breeds for years and years to be built to jump. These horses are built very differently than wild horses. So when I say "natural jumper" I mean a horse that shows potential and has good scope at a young age. As I said, if they do this a lot, or even more than once or twice then yeah, that's wrong. But once or twice with a strong foal, isn't going to hurt him.
@OneDayEventerX Doing this once in a blue moon is not going to hurt a foal. Foals run and jump around all the time in their field and I am sure in the wild foals have had to jump over something to get away from a predator. Jumping at a early age helps a horse get used to jumps because they see their mother is not afraid. It's also good to see if a horse is a natural jumper or if they may prefer a different discipline. If they jump the foal a lot, then yes, that's just wrong, but we don't know.
he's too much young for jump !! He will be maybe very good at two years old but after he will be broken !! stop to make jump foal !! (sorry for the english)
aww so cute! also the foal isn't being made to jump, the mother and foal are happy and not distress, i don't see anything wrong with it, i wouldn't go much higher for now tho, but i don't know anything about foals. Training my horse to jump and lunging is very helpful!
umm.....this cant bee good for his legs since he is so young. Prestigious breeder wait about a year until they even think about jumping their yearlings. Also, why jump the little guy over oxers when there is a risk of permanent injury. Don't be offended. Its just how i feel. : /
That is sooo not good for a foal in that age... foal's bones and joints wear out and are not sustainable in the future. You can of course train the colt to trot / canter over small barriers or fences, but no more. You should preferably not start with loose jumping until the horse is approximately 1 year.
@AmberEasy actualy your dead wrong there.... free jumping allows them to find there own way over the jump and jumping that hieght is fine for them... its only massive heights like 1m+ is dangours for them
yes of course, free jumping is very good for horses! But fences who's that big could be bad for a foal in that age. I study in a sort of college were we just learn about horses and riding, and we have done studies on how the free jumping affect the foal's bones and joints. But I'm not blaming you of course, it's a really nice foal you have and she will surely be a perfect jumping horse in the future!
C'est n'importe quoi de faire sauter une pareil hauteur à un poulain jeune comme sa ! Il n'as même pas les membres encore correctement formés . NUL c'est inconscient...
@Horsepeep101 It actually helps the legs to develop and get used to taking off and landing. Foals jump around in the pasture so it makes do difference. And the jump was very low. If the foal will grow up to be a jumper it's good for te foal to get used to it at an early age. Most trainers do this.
my old horses foal used to do that over 5ft bushes, just to get her hay, one time, she jumped into the neighbors yard because she got spooked and he piled her poop by our door and tied her to a house column:)
Sweet! Its going to be a great horse to have once he gets a little older!

If they jump the foal a lot, then yes, that's just wrong, but we don't know.

aww so cute! also the foal isn't being made to jump, the mother and foal are happy and not distress, i don't see anything wrong with it, i wouldn't go much higher for now tho, but i don't know anything about foals. Training my horse to jump and lunging is very helpful!

Look for his xrais vetcheck when he or she is 4 years old, then you know if this was a good idea or not ;-)
AGITAT 5 months ago
umm.....this cant bee good for his legs since he is so young.

AmberEasy 5 months ago 33
@AmberEasy actualy your dead wrong there.... free jumping allows them to find there own way over the jump and jumping that hieght is fine for them... its only massive heights like 1m+ is dangours for them
LetsFlyOnceMore 5 months ago
@LetsFlyOnceMore
yes of course, free jumping is very good for horses!
AmberEasy 5 months ago
@AmberEasy um its not mine and btw you do realise thats barely 60cms so its actualy fine and it really actualy depends on the foal

C'est n'importe quoi de faire sauter une pareil hauteur à un poulain jeune comme sa ! Il n'as même pas les membres encore correctement formés . NUL c'est inconscient...

that is so cute but not a good idea to do when the legs are still developing
Jenna1122331 6 months ago
@Horsepeep101 It actually helps the legs to develop and get used to taking off and landing. Foals jump around in the pasture so it makes do difference. And the jump was very low. If the foal will grow up to be a jumper it's good for te foal to get used to it at an early age. Most trainers do this.

Foals in the WILD may even have to jump of high cliffs.

nyrangerxo98 6 months ago
my old horses foal used to do that over 5ft bushes, just to get her hay, one time, she jumped into the neighbors yard because she got spooked and he piled her poop by our door and tied her to a house column:)
