1:52... best music for a computer game ever!!! I never forgot this tune since 1993!! I forgot what game it was from and have searched on youtube a few times thinking Chuck Rock? no.. Bc-Kid? no.. and then the penny dropped just now! ahh! SON OF CHUCK!! Glad others on here have mentioned the tune also!
This game is trippin' funny..cast of characters: Slick Dick? Marie-Jane? Ankleotapus? Wonder why they showed fat bloke 2 times?! Music and gfx sfx rock!!
@zachanima thats just layer over lapping effect. The 2nd background lacks cool multi parallex effects found on the genesis. If you play the genesis version or watch the video of the first level, you will know what i am talking bout.
@123doomdoom You are absolutely right, there is only one scrolling layer (and in most levels not even that) in the Amiga version. I never noticed this, perhaps because I hardly ever played the Genesis version.
I have to admit that the sound on the Amiga is much more detailed and interesting, though. Pity we couldn't have both parallax scrolling and detailed sound/music in the same version.
I really love the music on the first level. Esp on the Amiga version. Where can I hear more of this style of music. In fact, what do you even call this style of music? Thanks in advance
@sasfcps Great question. I too love the level 1 music! Aside from having a strong reggae beat, I think what makes it distinctive are the jazz/funk chords it uses. So if I had to put it in a genre I'd say slightly trippy jazz/funk. My favourite game music composer Tim Follin often delves into this territory with great chords. Check out, for example, the Beach and Akrillic levels from the game Plok or Agent X 2 on the C64. Just great pieces of music and very unconventional, inspired by prog rock.
@sasfcps Hey, I just found the perfect answer to your question! Look at the video at 40:11. Right there in the credits they list a load of bands that inspired the music. They're mostly acid jazz bands like Brand New Heavies and James Taylor Quartet. To my memory, I can't think of any acid jazz songs that feature a reggae rhythm like this song, but still it might be worth having a listen to the bands that inspired this music?

I remember beating this all the time as a kid, The graphics and game play are excellent. Although the intro in the first is nicer and with better music son of chuck is still a far superior game. I recently bought this title boxed off ebay.
lol i used to worry about the babies when i was little, i thought you could take themwith you, then again i wondered why the enemies where smaller than chuck jnr
It's somewhat cruel, I even thought the same being this a videogame, but that mom is an actual enemy which hurts you and she isn't letting you pass either.
The amiga versions of chuck rock & chuck rock 2 are superior to all other versions. the amiga was a revolutionary machine. I still have mine in the loft and i have chuck rock 2 lol i had the first one but it dissapeared :( i must dig ou my amiga stuff. Nice video.
i've got an ozzie-manufactured CD32, and have to use an adapter to plug a 220 sprong into a 110 outlet. anyhow, the CD32 version featuresan animated intro, about five minutes long.
The Amiga version of Chuck Rock 1 doesn't have any music, except the one of the title screen (and you can't play with both music and sounds at the same time).
I agree that it's a great little game and it improves in every way on the original. Only played the Mega Drive version though, and sadly it seems a bit worse.. It lacks quite a few details that seem to make the game more fun.
The Amiga version also lacks some other details that the Mega Drive version has, including an entire level (the one of the tree sinking in lava, before the baby bird boss). I wouldn't say it's actually worse.
Yeh but the lava tree level was left out because it was shite! evidently ur a sega fan, so stop spreading ur false prophecy!!! Only joking, but the amiga version has better sound and gameplay, the parralax backgrounds are better as well!
The Sega version also had only one boss theme that was originally the first boss's music. It was shared for all bosses, even Brick Jagger. However, there was a very small segment of level before the actual Brick Jagger Boss that wasn't in the Amiga version. Also, the final level's coloring in the Sega version was much, much better.

The megadrive's version had far inferior music, Amiga always had better sound than the megadrive, but the megadrive had advanced graphics =/

This game lacks the parallax scrolling of the genesis. :( I liked that effect.
123doomdoom 1 year ago
@123doomdoom The weird thing is ... if you look at the first levels, it definitely HAS parallax scrolling. Just not in most levels, for some reason.
Well spotted.
