2) The ending. Though he was a monster, he wasn't mindless. That's what was interesting. Though, of course, he went QUITE overboard with his theory of having 3 humans in one, by the end of it all, there was just enough Seth left for him to say, "no more."
Overall this movie was horrifying, disgusting, creepy, and yet, by the end, it had emotion I hadn't seen in almost ANY other horror film...
I guess those two reasons explain why I love it so much.
I'm scared easily and don't like a lot of horror movies, but for some weird reason, i was able to watch this one (note, a few times i thought i was gonna be sick lol). It was because of one of two reasons:
1) I love Jeff Goldblum. He was able, in this movie, to be horrifying. But, the first time i saw his "drastic" changes, i felt horrible... he was SCARED. Seeing him so disfigured almost made me cry.
I was pretty small when I saw this movie, too, it was really disturbing. i also remember being disappointed that he didn't turn into a flying insect monster that went on a rampage, lol. so at the time, i liked the 2nd one better.
Man when I was little watching this, I was SO fucking pissed that the woman seemed so weak and submissive. She let herself into that transportation box thing!
I was watching it last night and chickened out at the vomiting scene and now i've seen it through i could probably watch the whole thing through now, thanks!
I dunno why but the vomiting scene always terrified me even though I've seen the movie countless times. Its not the gore aspect that makes it so scary its watching Brundle start smiling and sniffing the fumes like it was some sort of fine wine. Disturbs the hell out of me.
I knew I shouldn't have watched this clip! Man, I will never forget this now!
I watched the movie a long time ago, and it still crawls uner my skin every time I remember it... No movie has ever tormented me so much mentaly before and no movie ever will...
A good good movie, but also a very very disturbing one...
I have to admit, As kid I saw lot of movie horrors-when I was 3,4 years old I saw It, A Nightmare on Elm Street-all parts, Alien, and even Cannibal Holocaus. But after this movie, I been a little disturbed.
Don't know why, not graphic too much, but atmospere in that movie is-bizzare...
You should try John Carpenter's The Thing. There are actually some clips of it on youtube and it probably has the BEST special effects I've ever seen. A very gory, psychological horror movie.
shit i felt srry for the guy this was one the best movies i fuckin watched as a kid.and i still thing that the brundelfly doesnt look like a fly at all LOL

Actually, it's Better than the Fly II. the Fly II Had a Cliche ending, and No, Seth isn't a Fag you dolt, Seth's a Scientist who was researching and designing Teleportation methods. when he started changing, it was because A: He was drunk. B: He thought Veronica had gone back to her old BF and was jealous, C: he didn't notice the fly was in the pod til he looked at his computer.

Wow, Nice choice of words. BTW, It's called The Fly 2 was cliche and stupid. Seth is NOT a "fag" character, He is Original and Non-Cliche, the Fly 2 was FULL of cliches right down to Martin, you just don't have an eye for anything good. so do us all a favor and YOU Shut your mouth.

The Fly 2 is shit, plus the ending in The Fly is great because it is both horrific and sad, making it have more meaning as a film, overall, David Croneneberg is a thinking man's director. If you didn't appreciate the ending in The Fly, you have no fucking heart, it's tragic watching what ends up happening to Seth and watching him die.
Whatever happened to these good old movies? The whole thriller genre was ruled by the Fly, Gremlins, Ghostbusters, the Thing, and others. Now we get crap like Saw and stuff. What happened? And I think the fly was one of the coolset looking creatures in the whole industry
There is that quality that you don't get anymore, but I'm still standing for Saw. Only the first one though. All the others are nonsense, but Saw 1 is damn fine, I feel.
All the movies you mentioned rely on the conflict between human and monsters, though, so it's not really fair to compare them to Saw. But I agree things have changed. I think it's the CG aspect of modern movies, it often lacks the charm and realism of pre-CG animatronics etc.
Yeah, I saw this at about the age of seven or eight.
The scariest scene to me was actually where he arm wrestled the guy in the bar and gave him a compound fracture, where the bone protrudes out of his wrist. Disgusting.
I saw this in a double-feature with Aliens back in late 1986. What a fantastic movie, seriously. Everything hits you out of left field, brilliant and disturbing and creepy and sad. The whole cake. I highly recommend it on all levels: visceral, emotional and intellectual. Both sides of your brain will hurt, I swear. Good stuff from all parties. Enjoy.
both i think. when the physical changes took over brundle, his human behavior and also his emotions began to fade away, and the more his human attributes disappeared, the more the "animal" instincts took the control over brundle
ONE QUESTION what happened exactly to the fly??? it must have tuned into seth. even the computer says assimulation so there must have been a little brundle somewhere
I gotta applaud Jeff Goldblum for his portrayal of Brundle in this film. I was scared as hell when he transformed into the fly and puked acid, probably the grossest scene ever second to his fusion with the telepod.
As for the animatronics - I agree. I think it did well with New Line Cinema's live adaption of The Guyver, regardless of unfavorable mixed reviews.
When Brundle grows fly legs and a new face, is that considered his final transformation? There are no fly wings on him at that point.
Animatronics is way better than CGI for a scene like this. With animatronics you see all the flesh, hair and details. CGI would look too artificial, unrealistic and pretty! And some of you here are spot on! The point is not that he's mutated into a superhero. This movie is about an experiment gone very wrong and Seth is transformed into hideous monster. You wouldn't want to be brundlefly period!
The original fly movie with Vincent Price, I believe had that message as well about not messing with nature and of course to scare people into thinking science was evil.
This newer remake I believe was more about disease and what people with certain disease went through and was treated by society. Like those with cancer. In particular it was also about AIDS. This movie came out during the era when AIDS was a new disease and not many people knew how you got it and were scared of those who had it
They did a good job on the monster. In a lot of movies, sombody turns into an all-powerful monster and you're like, "That wouldn't be so bad." Here, you definitely WOULDN'T want to be what poor Seth turns into.
Its not the ending that's disturbing - its the entire tale that is disturbing. Tampering around with things that man should never mess with and paying the price as a result. Ronnie had to kill him, as there was nothing else that could be done for him.
Yeah, it is all pretty messed up. The sequel explained that he could have turned human again if he would have programmed the computer to switch his human-fly hybrid DNA with that of a pure human by having another human in the 2nd teleportation pod. I think that's how his son was saved in the sequel. But doing that is like playing God, which is also messed up.
thats one thing that i truly love about this movie, wen it was over it was over it didint get dragged on or felt like it was too long. seth died, bam over
this is definitly one of the best horror movies... in todays horror movies you only see blood, blood and umm more blood? oh and yeah to good ol "something sudently jumping out of the darkness and making lots of noise" trick... in my oppion a good horror movie affects your brain a little( it stais in your mind) and doesent just give you a slight jump of the chair
I think I waz 6 or 7 when I first saw this and although people would think I waz horrified, I actually waz in tears because I felt so sad for him. He seemed like such a kind person and all because of one suspicious thought. Although my girlfriend blamed Gina's character for leaving to go see her ex-boyfriend, I don't. Because there's a message here even though it's a sci-fi. Suspicion can destroy somebody. Truly one of my fav movies. Unique too.A Drama, sci-fi, horror, love story. I Recommend it
omg, if i had seen THIS movie in the age of 7 i swear i would have had nightmares every night for the last twenty years. imagine, i was even afraid of E.T. as a child...
aww my mom saw this movie when she was 19 and then she got on the bus and there was a fly and she got so grossed out even knowing that nothing can physically happen...........unless she gets into it w/ a telepod
Not even any of the modern horror movies I've seen we're even close to as scary and creepy as this one... When he fully transforms I kindoff screamed...
"Two beams of subatomic particles called 'hadrons' -- either protons or lead ions -- will travel in opposite directions inside the circular accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. Physicists will use the LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy. Teams of physicists from around the world will analyse the particles created in the collisions using special detectors in a number of experiments dedicated to the LHC."
"high-energy particle collisions might produce phenomena dangerous to the Earth, such as the creation of micro black holes, strangelets, vacuum bubbles and magnetic monopoles."
They have almost finished a machine called the "Large HADRON Supercollider". See Concerns have been raised about the safety of the Large Hadron Collider"
This is probably the most horrific movie ever made. We are already on the edge of teleportation. Physicists have transported atomic particles from one location to another in supercolliders. The new collider "Large Hadron Collider" may be able to provide the information to teleport complete molecular substances.
Poor guy he should have brought a fly swatter.

One of the last good horror films to make you cry at the end. at least for me.
crabbypants1978 3 years ago
this is definitly one of the best horror movies... in todays horror movies you only see blood, blood and umm more blood? oh and yeah to good ol "something sudently jumping out of the darkness and making lots of noise" trick... in my oppion a good horror movie affects your brain a little( it stais in your mind) and doesent just give you a slight jump of the chair

Incidentally, is the weapon Borans used a rifle or a shotgun? Don't you have to pump a shotgun to use it?

THE FLY .. it's not a fly .. more a future creature -
- & I dont fight against viruses or "flys" - Ali gave Foremann a uppercut in the jungle - that's "easy"
##Z - how will fight against a VIRUS - maybe "they" happy - that we give them OUR body

It looks like the Brundlefly was in the midst of molting. I wonder how it would look without all of that decaying flesh covering it?
Maybe it would have a hardened outer skin which would be a mix of brown and green...
Exalted1Obliteration 3 years ago
Brundle's skeleton is disappeared during the transformation?Or how could He live with the telepod in His body?
Gabeszovics22 3 years ago
aww my mom saw this movie when she was 19 and then she got on the bus and there was a fly and she got so grossed out even knowing that nothing can physically happen...........unless she gets into it w/ a telepod

XMIR10B 3 years ago
"high-energy particle collisions might produce phenomena dangerous to the Earth, such as the creation of micro black holes, strangelets, vacuum bubbles and magnetic monopoles."
XMIR10B 3 years ago
They have almost finished a machine called the "Large HADRON Supercollider". See Concerns have been raised about the safety of the Large Hadron Collider"
XMIR10B 3 years ago
And if you dont believe me you can goog "teleportation"+"atomic particles" OR "teleportation"+"hadron" for the future.
XMIR10B 3 years ago
This is probably the most horrific movie ever made. We are already on the edge of teleportation. Physicists have transported atomic particles from one location to another in supercolliders. The new collider "Large Hadron Collider" may be able to provide the information to teleport complete molecular substances.

Jeff was born to be "The Fly". He does it perfectly right down to the fly ticks, acrobatics, and everything else.
XMIR10B 3 years ago
I just thought of something. Maybe The Fly is responsible for all those "feet" turning up in B.C. Canada. See how he detached it with the shoe?
