  • Yngwie 'picks better'. When that is all that can be said then this face-off was about as anti-climactic as the first recorded battle between a Great White and an Orca. Yngwie with his great picking spells is the Great White. Who by the way lasted a total of about 5 seconds before being dispatched and eaten. How about this one - Better singer - Lemmy Kilmister or Freddie Mercury? I'm guessing Ol' Fred's gonna do pretty well on this one. But that's just me. lol. Fuckin' Kotzen is BRILLIANT

  • People why is this even a discussion. Sure technically the big Y is impressive. Big fuckin' deal. The only decent songs he ever wrote were because he had Joe Lynn Turner holding his hand. Kotzen is the Hendrix of this generation. The man could never touch a guitar again and still be great by virtue of his incredible vocal and songwriting skills. The only one of the late '80's shredders (Paul Gilbert at times) who developed into a COMPLETE musician and not just a lead guitarist.

  • Good example, both excellents players, think ,Richie Kotzen can do, more interesting things than Yngwie , Richie more versatile , Richie wins in this, but both amazing.

  • @pochifer1 Don't forget Richie can sing like a mother f*cker as well and is a much better songwriter. Yngwie picks better...

  • Both great guitar players. One is a great songwriter to boot with a vast a canon of work crossing rock and jazz fusion. YM is a great player but RK wins for me in terms of all round ability.

  • 1:06 how'd he do that? slapping?

  • @williamindragunawan Sounds like a sweep technique with hammer ons.

  • @nextbestguitarist No, the first bit is definitely slapping.

  • is it both of them playing in the same song or different acoustic parts of their songs?

  • @catapei

    these are different songs......

  • @scheidtl u know the name of these songs?

  • Richie has much stronger fingers. he's actually got some of the strongest out here. a lot of his acoustic stuff is legato

  • kotzen slides the arpeggios....that,s the difference...

  • i have the live in leningrad vcr and the live in brazil dvd, does anybody know if the live in leningrad exists in dvd? i've been trying to find it along with the live in japan

  • @mikebajista yes the dvd is called "far beyond the sun" its 2 concerts on it, live in leningrad and live in japan.

  • @richardgriff1988 thanks man,i'll try to find it,also i have been looking for de live in budokan too,i'm a fan hehehe

  • live in leningrad is on Laserdisc..best sound ever..better than crap Dvd

  • Both are great guitarist, from a different decade of playing ( I love all thier stuff alike )

  • i got the book to the right of the guitar thats purple

  • at 0:19 thats kotzen isnt it?

  • no, kotzen starts at 0:35

  • both are great masters guitar players/musicians, richie also sings incredible.

  • what album is this richie kotzen solo from? I've never heard it until now. It's quite good! Thanks for posting/sharing it on here. Cheers!

  • it's from an Poison album Native tongue or so.

I just listen for the guitar solos on that album cheers

  • HOLY FUCK! Are the instruments on the LAST picture of this video yours? Shit, I can see two JEMs, a JS, a PGM, two Ibanez JPMs and a MusicMan JPM, a MusicMan Axis and a lot of other cool guitars. Tell me it's just a music store photo... OMG!

  • well..

yes.I'm such a guitar freak HaHa

It's not normal but there are coming new guitars soon.

    cheers

  • Haha, and a Dean MAB armor flame and George Lynch Skull & Snakes :O

  • yeah its great i love this song too :D

  • the best part is the part of Yngwie

  • Richie kotzen is by far the better guiatr player, singer, song writer than Malmsteen will ever be...all of malmsteen songs sound exactly the same he is really good at just shredding over the same licks over and over

  • all malmsteen songs are exactly the same... just shredding the same licks over the minor harmonic scale... but richie kicks ass!

  • Apparently you've never actually listened to Yngwie's music. Saying they're all the same does nothing except reveal your lack of musical sophistication.

  • he exagerates on the minor harmonic... it gets boring and repetitive.

Richie is a way more versatile musician, he can play (and sing!) all kinds of music and it's always great to listen to. Malmsteen is a very technical player, one of the most accurate players. But i don't think a great musician is made only by technique and speed. Your music must be balanced, and there's gotta be feeling and soul!

  • I still don't think you're really listening. The highlight of Yngwie's music is the melody, and I think it's bizarre when people claim that there's no feeling in his music. I don't know. Maybe they're just looking for the wrong kind of feeling, or maybe just a cheap and easy emotional experience. Kotzen is a great guitarist, but I've actually found his melodies to be rather generic.

  • agreed 100%

  • he exagerates on the minor harmonic?..then kotzen and all others exagerates on the pentatonic scale..because you know when its yngwie..but if you hear kotzen..you have no clue who it is until you actually know the song..and more versatile?what does versatile have to do with neoclassical music?..sounds like you expect yngwie to play country or hiphop when ever you get bored?..its not about you..if you don´t like it don´t buy it..end of story...its like saying michael jackson screams to much

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen Amen brother .. :))

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen you can tell kotzens style tho. he uses certain tecniques you can hear in most of his songs just watch Hi-Tech Rock Guitar, where he shows someo of them. the moment kotzen solos you can tell its him.

  • yeah i know..for people like us the guitar shred lovers...we know when a certain guitarist is playing..but malmsteen is very easy to pick out even for the non guitar fans..if you heard him 2-3 times that style sets in your head..or you will even say this guy tries to play like malmsteen...but then my other answer is how many guitar players wanted to play like kotzen`? when all i see on youtube is people with a malmsteen guitar playing arpeggios..who made a bigger impact?

  • This intro solo changed my life

  • Hi Jim
