  • Plenty of people in denial here. Here in australia we dont use oil for electricity. The USA derives 40% of its electricity from oil. Seriously, the USA is so underprepared, so reliant on cheap oil, its economy so predicated on something they dont control, I predict serious pain for the US. They arnt going to take their epic fall from grace well. These dreams of some new tech replacing oil are fantasies. Your future is not a swish electric car, its a FEMA camp. Run, if you can.

  • More Globalist LIEs about our money system!

OUR money system in the USA must be localized to community banks, GOVERNMENT must cut down to 1/4 the size to start, no more corporate WAR, GOLD AND SILVER backed currency, the educational system must begin to teach sustainability, Solar – wind Power, the composting toilet as opposed to the polluting septic system, GROW, can and store our food as well as to harvest “OUR” own seeds, not use Monsanto’s seeds, live by the CONSTITUTION!

  • The answer is energy efficiency. Doing more with less. I think it is completely possible to seperate our economy much more from oil. It is not possible if we are to live like we do now.

Cars, one of the biggest users of oil are a prime example. The car itself is the problem. It is extremely energy inefficient. around 75% of the fuel (which comes from oil) is wasted. Then the 1.5 tonne car moves a person who weighs much less meaning little of that oil actually moves the person.

  • YEAH!!! Service to humanity doesith ! STOP charging money for PEAK OIL news , cHRIS!!! Help humanity without charging it! Write a fvcking book!!! It may be cheaper for us! Thanks for the help!

PS1: The end isn't here yet in Eastern Europe!

    PS2: Cheers!

  • Liquid fuel should be part of our money system.

  • Great episode, however, I would urge this guy to read and understand Ron Pauls financial policy. He has an unmatched understanding of how we got where we are and how we have historically came back around

  • Talk about going against the flow. In a country where many criticize OWS for not a lot of initial planning & structure Martenson sees that as an indicator of wide spread genuine concern & knowledge who it really was that wrecked the economy. Most likely those will tunnel vision will focus on his admitting that our way of life will change, but ignore him when he says their needn't be hardship. Another great program thank you

  • This guy is really easy to listen to... Thanks

  • Great broadcast! two thumbs up/five stars......I have his book and watched his course, but he is still an amazing speaker. He says what he needs to say fluently and with an optimistic tone even though the challenges we face ahead will not be very pretty. Still, always great to hear what he has to say and try and move forward from there.

  • The most universal energy distribution method is electric, a nation with a smart grid, can transport energy across the nation, from every source, Solar from deserts, bio fuels from the plains, tidal from the coast, geothermal from those areas etc. No trucks needed to transport this energy, no tanks to store it, non polluting, a great percentage of transportation is just commuting to work, electric cars are now reaching the 100 mile per charge range. electric can be stored in a liquid as -

  • - hydrogen ( which i consider just an energy storage medium ) for use in transportation other than local commuting. what i am getting at here, is that all energy sources no matter what is eventually used can be distributed via electricity, which can be transformed easily into other forms of power if needed. sort of like the Internet but for energy. parking places could have inductive chargers, where people could activate, and charge anywhere, even when at the super market.

  • @agriperma Just a word of caution. Every time you convert one form of energy to another your net energy available for use decreases. This is due to heat loss, resistance, ect... Its something to take into account with any system of energy transfer.

  • @darongw I agree, no such thing as 100% efficiency, but in the case of Hydrogen, yes its very inefficient . but lets say I have a 10KW solar panel system that generates on avg. 60KW a day, I only use 1/2 that for my home the rest goes into my vehicle or grid tie. if i have a hydrogen/electric hybrid,( the hydrogen being supplied also from my panels,) even if I lose a lot to inefficiency, its still only the equipment costs involved. nothing was consumed except the energy i got from the sun.

  • Janaia, I always look forward to your shows. Some of them interest me, many don't. I keep up to date will all the alternative movements and opinions taking shape around the world. But I feel compelled to bring something to your attention: It is TOO LATE for us to return to reliance on nature. The damage which has been wreaked on the biosphere is irreparable. The climate will soon make even organic farming unsustainable. Nature's days are numbered. The only way out is with more science.

  • @shox007, many in our culture have a deep faith in science and technology -- I think it's our culture's religion. But what can science do if nature's resources are gone? What do you build with if the platform is burning?

Substitutions cannot always be found, or perhaps not devised in time. Along with some helpful things, science has also given us a pandora's box of evils -- toxic chemicals and pollution to start...

  • @peakmoment I suppose that we shall have to start reaching for the really high hanging fruits --- resources from other planets, or by extending science so that it gains deeper understanding of the sub-atomic properties of matter, with the result that we might be able to make energy or matter ourselves at low cost. It sounds outrageous, but to my mind the difference between the sustainable and unsustainable is that with the former, we might last only 100-200 more years living on drawdown.

  • @shox007, I think your estimate about living on drawdown is sobering and very possible. I think that, given how industrial civilization has trashed the planet so thoroughly, we are too adolescent a species to let loose to trash other planets like we're doing to Earth.

  • The solution is gas fast breeder reactors and the plutonium economy. Look that up "Plutonium Economy" and Jimmy Carter in the 70's. I would like to see videos on that. The only thing keeping us from limitless zero emission energy and wealth is security. If we have a peaceful society, we can use plutonium in a way that is 98% efficient (as opposed to 2-4% efficient) and produces more fuel than it consumes. If we don't sort out our security problems we won't make it to the Plutonium Economy.

  • @zigzigerblat, as Chris noted, our current problem is our need for liquid fuels. Nuclear or even electricity can't do the job.

  • @zigzigerblat The notion that something is limitless, and betting anything can be limitless by building an economy around it , is what gotten us into the mess we are in today. No matter how great it reads, a Plutonium Economy may not give us the portable fuel that can operate the US transportation system in a manner in which Americans have become accustomed to"Plutonium Economy" Probably great for an electric rail system, but even in it's heyday rail never served all communities.

  • Interesting talk - as always. But there was one point that Chris is misinformed about: There is no trading services program to care for the elderly in Japan - far as I know. There's an extensive public welfare/insurance system that provides many services to the elderly who live alone or even with their families. There has been a burgeoning industry of eldercare in the private sector as well (assisted living, home visits, etc.). Overall, the strong ethic of caring for the elderly has broken down.

  • I'm sorry, but the entire basis of his arguement is wrong. The economy is bad because 143 businesses hold 90% of the worlds wealth AND 80% of the WORLDS GDP. Gas prices aren't that high. Gas prices don't put people on food stamps. Companies that pay their workers SHIT wages with no healthcare put people on food stamps. Gas prices could double over night, and I wouldn't care. I'd just get a moped. THE problem is that wages aren't keeping up with inflation.

  • @dataphreak a manufacture has 3 factors that determine the cost of their product, 1)energy cost 2) resourse costs 3) labor costs. in the past use corporations had cheap energy, cheap resources, but expensive labor ( good wages ) but could remain competitive in the world market. as energy cost went up. so did resources. there is no way US manufacturers can compete with overseas Cos, so they export manufacturing jobs and outsource etc. on top of this, every 20 bucks I spend of imported fuel is -

  • -cont is 20 bucks I did not spend locally on a product or service, that's hundreds of Billions not going into the economy that used to nationally. people go out to restaurants less, spend less on services, and so on, this translates into less jobs and lower pay. to make matters worse, food costs and everything goes up, because one way or another energy is involved, so yes Oil is the #1 cause of the problems in the USA and other non energy independent nations of the world.

  • @agriperma No, agriperma, you are wrong. Of the top 143 businesses in the world, only 5 are producers. The rest are financial institutions and multinational conglomerates who charge 18% intrest on loans while providing less than 2% intrest on savings, at a 20 to 1 fractional reserve. None of these 138 financial institutions products are subject to oil prices and therefore should not reflect cost. What's more, these people are the reason that oil is so high. It's called oil futures. GG Sir.

  • @dataphreak Of course I do not believe that the only businesses are in manufacturing, I just gave 1 example. but the fact remains, all you have to do is look at the Trillions going to China because of cheap labor, from all over the world, thats money that is not coming here/ I totally agree with you on the Financial institutions in the US . the system is broken. we also need to get rid of the FED. and "speculation" on wall street to our expense.

  • This is exactly why we need to switch to a plant based fuel system soonest! The lies told by oil companies keep people thinking that it can't be done without people starving but that is not true.

We need to get off the petro fuel nipple and soon.

Imagine how many jobs this would make right here in the US and Canada that could not be exported to the usual suspects.

  • @scarmenl, in Chris's talk to our community after we taped this show, he notes that ethanol takes more energy to produce than we get from it. Other sources like algae-based fuels aren't yet scaled for widespread distribution, nor is there infrastructure to distribute them. Just like no infrastructure for compressed natural gas -- nor vehicles to use that fuel. It's a big question of scale. He's right with you on phasing out of petroleum.

  • @peakmoment The info that show that it takes more energy to make alcohol fuel is just not true. Read David Blume's book "Alcohol can be a gas" and see the other side of that story.

Besides we have no choice. If we plan on living a modern life then we will just have to make the change.

Corn is one of the biggest places were the info being put out is very inaccurate at best. For one, corn used to make alcohol leaves what is called DDGS(dried distillers grains). This make good animal feed!

  • @peakmoment - How about hemp?

  • fascinating to listen to two highly intelligent enlightened individuals speaking about the global economy as having two important elements the monetary system and the oil energy system... only mentioning people in terms of consumerism as a minimal part of the economy...

citizens are the resouce that is the life blood of both ...when we remember that we are citizens first we realize that most of the economy story is myth... I could go on but I'll stop

    thanks for sharing

  • Someone told me that when there are food shortages everyone would just come steal my food. I thought next summer I would start putting my strawberry runners and blackberry volunteers in small containers. When they are rooted I will put them by my mailbox with a "Free to good home" sign on them. My thinking is that if everyone did this there wouldn't be a need to steal someone elses food.

  • @jeanineadele I gave away a bunch of volunteer tomato plants last year...put an ad on craigslist....everyone one was very happy about it, and it made me feel amazing....I already had alot of saved containers to give away...just knowing that the lil starter plants would otherwise just end up in my compost heap...it worked out well!!

  • @jeanineadele, more gardens and tours coming...we try to show a broad range of innovative can-do people. Your great idea with the berries is similar to the folks on Haultain Blvd who plant vegies in the parking strip and offer the produce free to anyone who comes by. Now people in the neighborhood are planting gardens and sharing with one another. (Peak Moment 185: "Claiming the Commons - Food for All on Haultain Boulevard") on Youtube v=25F_KbTz39o

  • @peakmoment If you're ever down in phoenix, look up 'The Garden Pool'. I'd like to see a 30 minute interview with that guy. Super efficient microgardening is the way of the future. Just wish fiberglass wasn't so expensive.

  • @jeanineadele I planted my first vegetable garden this summer, and the squirrels and other animals ate more than half my crops. So in a sense I did the same as you suggest, but for my furry neighbors....

  • I like the dialog with the authors but I kind of miss the visits the visits to the organic farms.

  • 'Our money system needs to expand exponentially', NO, it isn't OUR money system but of a criminal international banking cartel (Illuminati). And it owns the oil supply too. I agree with the peak oil theory but I fear that the increasing scarcity in energy and resources will be used by the criminal banking cartel to control and kill humanity even more than today. We need a new money system that doesn't belong to the Illuminati and benefits the common people. Please become aware of criminal elite

  • @Bernd1964 Mike Montagne Mathematically Perfected Economy

  • quality of life is not just about burning gas or using more n more energy.lots of intangibles too are involved.

  • does oil do that??? well tell the public that they can run cars on water vapor HHO gas.. for free.. tell them that US gov uses it for wars in iraq but not at home ..cause we suck the oil man's ... oil spout!

Impeach Obama..Install NESARA. Reinstate Constitution NOW! PEACE ON EARTH. AND IN THE GALAXY. END ALL WARS.

  • Another great show, thank you so much.

  • It's weird to call the 99% productive. since they're only productive to the system itself.
