Again, I have Lived to Tell-apologies to Madonna-because I'll always live through The Promise. In the artwork, Bruce Springsteen writes "Now the Promise is Broken/You go on Living/But it Steals Something down in Our Souls/The Truth is Spoken/It Does Not Make Any Difference/Something in Our Hearts Run Cold!" Thanks Bruce for giving me courage to go on Living so that the Next Promise Isn't Broken in my life. Hey Bruce, You Rock!
think this is part of a bootleg i bought 15years ago, called "Forced to Confess" if im not mistaken, this concert was on the same day that bruce and mike appel reached an agreement.... either way, its off the charts unbelievable!
@1pbrodie The one you mean is from March 25/1977 and the final night of the Chicken Scratch tour, this one is from the opening night of a 4 night stand, all top shows, But the final night is unbelievable!!!!
@1pbrodie Good History...either way...it is off the charts. Thank you for posting. That was worth the price of admission...I will be looking for Forced to Confess.
Return to Thunder Road, wow. It's interesting to see all the romantic idealism of songs like Rosalita and Spirit in the Night disappear by the time he gets to Darkness. And then, of course, we get Nebraska.
I love how everyone is loud and roudy at the start, but by half way through everyone is just quiet. I loved this song from the first time I heard it, and I'm sure the people here feel the same way. Bruce can bring people to their feet and sit them back down again, and make both just as enjoyable, like no other.
I just heard that Bruce will be re-releasing "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" this fall. It will be 3-CD/3-DVD set. Two CDs will feature outtakes from these sessions, including this song. Of course, there will be a behind-the-scenes making-of DVD as well as live performances---including a live performance of the ENTIRE album recorded in 2009. Sounds like a must-have set.
at the time of this performance, my life was exactly like this song...the rain on the asphault in the middle of the night, sleeping in a borrowed car. i lived a secret i shoulda kept to myself....
but there is another side to the story, one day i found a home and warmth and goodness and purpose and a good woman and i don't have to live out in that dark night alone anymore. thank You Lord Jesus.

Very nice version, i like the try-out of bruce, when he's voice goes down like really way down!
"Thunder Road, we were gonna take it all and throw it all away"
Lempke1972a 1 year ago
@Lempke1972a The 'new' version of The Promise lacks that amazing 'way down in my boots' voice that Bruce does here.
