I hope to visit her someday soon in Philidelphia. Love your narration, too. What did she look like when she got towed in in '96? She must not've been as rusty as she is now.
OMG.How could they let her go like this?People should be living on her.I hope you have a cruise on one of these great ships. That grand era will be back.
The government sold it in near mint cond to a an A-HOLE for a measly one million dollars and he o drained all the fuel out of it. Sold it , then by and large let the ship rot away. All the contents had to be sold at auction in 1984 to pay mooring fees.
From my knowledge the auction was to raise money for the clown that bought her under the 'intention' to restore her. Knowing full well he would not do that, they stripped everything of value for the auction then abandonded the deal. Lots of stuff endedup in Nags Head NC at a nice resturant there.
some of my family sailed on her before i was born. i live nere her but i cant go see her. no car

Why do you not ask the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation for helping saving this greatest ship of all?

@jhooah1 If I am ever over there in Nags Head, I will certainly check it out. I too have some SS United States memorabilia.

I love the music at the beginning...wish the photos were clearer, because I think they're really neat.
