yeah i got a shit load of fret buzz on my ltd ec 1000, so i sold it and got a schecter hellraiser c7 and wow it was perfect, nothing was wrong with it
i bought a jackson kelly js series and i noticed the guitar makes excessive pickup noise when i stop playing - is there a way to stop the noise? buying EMG pickups? can u make a tutorial for removing the noise. thanks!
Dude, too cheap pickups can result in a high level of hum and noise. This video teaches the same guy to end or at least minimize the level hum of his guitar. If does not work, try a shielding inside of the pots or pickups! or if it does not yet buy a pedal Boss NS2, or attempt to remove the lid of the cavity back of the guitar and leave without it. Remember that poor amplifiers and pedals can also cause poor noise. And it still does not work buy a pair of EMG's.
@Zero10814 On the issues, no problem dude. So, no problem! you can use an aluminum or copper shield, does not make much difference! the two will decrease the level of hum.
What you are proving using your multimeter is that the shielding is a conductor, nice information but your explanation about "the numbers are moving" ... is not accurate, what you would expect is to have a resistance of 0 or close to 0, that depending on the conductor. By saying the numbers are not moving you are trying to say that the shielding is of a material not metal-conductive meaning that there is no faraday cage of any kind. Great vid by the way! :D
Hi. Excellent videos. Congratulations. Really helpful. I have an Epiphone SG-G400. I had the pickups changed to a Seymour Duncan SH-1 on the neck and a Bill Lawrence L500XL on the bridge. Now, the thing is, with the Seymour Duncan pickup the guitar is noiseless, however with the Bill Lawrence it has a lot of noise (even if I put my hands on the strings). After lowering the pickup volume, the noise goes away. What might it be? Would shielding it solve the problem? Many thanks.
Either not grounded properly, or needs shielding. Shielding always takes care of the problem as long as it's done properly. Some good tuts on youtube.
@LfunkeyA Many thanks for your reply :-) I believe all grounds are connected properly, however I have a Mojo Dijon on the Seymour Duncan Tone pot and a different capacitor on the Bill Lawrence Tone pot. Is it possible that the capacitor of the Bill Lawrence is dead and it's making the noise?
if the capacitor is dead the treble won't roll off properly, but i don't think it can affect the grounding. i have a guitar with two bill lawrence (wilde) L90s, and it's kind of noisy, but that's because it lacks proper shielding. the BL pickups are decent stuff, but I don't think their wires is as well insulated as the SDs, that could be a reason. try shielding it if it's not too hard to do with your current wiring.
@LfunkeyA Thanks. I checked everything and it seems the Seymour Duncan is properly grounded. There's a black wire that comes from the bridge that is soldered to the back of the Seymour Duncan tone pot. However, none whatsoever in the Bill Lawrence tone pot. I also noticed there are two loose wires on the Bill Lawrence (underneath the pickup), a green and white. I don't know where to connect the green and the white.
those two are most likely for the coil split/tap (you only use them if you want to split the humbucker into a single-coil). if the pickup can pick up the sound from the strings, then it's OK, you can leave those two wires. you need to look for a ground wire (black or blue) and you should solder it to the back of the volume pot. it's best if you go to a technician first just to get an exact evaluation of what you should do, then you can either fix it yourself or give it to the tech.
@LfunkeyA Thanks for taking the time to reply to my questions. The black wire coming from the Bill Lawrence is connected to one of the pots. After I saw your videos, I rewired the BL according to a schematic I found of a Washburn N4 (uses a Seymour Duncan and a BL). After rewiring the BL according to the schematics and your advices, the guitar was noiseless, except when I remove my hands from the strings. My conclusion is that the BL is not properly grounded. The question is, how do I ground it?
I don't have any videos on youtube, just one of the viewers replying to your comment. depending on how 'hot' your pickup is, it will always produce some noise, especially on really distorted/loud effects. the idea is to minimize it, is it really loud when you're not touching the strings? usually the black wire is the ground, sometimes it's not on BL pickups, make sure the schematic is specifically for your pickup, otherwise ask/e-mail the BL website. shielding helps too.
i've got a Ibanez S series guitar w/ Zero resistance (ZR) Double-locking tremolo bridge? recently It's fret buzzing on the 6th & 5th string from 12 fret above. what's the best fixed? thanks!
Thats what i said to many people who said for example that in expencive guitars you pay the brand.Thats wrong...For example gibson les paul is about more than 3k $ and Epiphone les paul is like 5 times less than gibson.Gibson les paul got the best fret leveling and preety good factoty setup, also the best quality wood.Thats why is 3k $ and not just because it's gibson.

@R3T4RDABL3 I'm betting it was made in Indonesia. A lot of guitar company's have been building there most recently to increase profit margin....and it shows. In my opinion you are far better off with a guitar built elsewhere....anywhere but Indo!
i have a problem: u know where u plug the amp cable in? well the washer thing that keeps the cable in place fell off my esp guitar so now when i plug it in i get no sound from the amp and when i get in playing position(sitting down) the cable falls out can i please get some help i just got this awesome guitar and since my parents dont understand theyre gonna get mad at getting it fixed so i need some help plz and thanks :)
@jeffhardyultimte if the washer fell off then what u have to do is unscrew the metal plate the jack that u plug into is on and there is a washer on the inner side of it, hold that in place with a wrench so it doesnt rotate and screw the washer that fell off back on. it should be somewhat tight, but if it is too tight no sound will come out, so when ur done adjust it until its as tight as u can get it while still making sound. hope this helps, this is how i fixed this problem on my old esp guitar
@whitedime Let's put it like that: Some guitars CAN NOT have a low action without buzz out of the box. But a good luthier should be able to fix that on almost every guitar by leveling faulty frets.
@ayawlex if you have single coil pickups then you should try shileding every cavity in your guitar, i did that with a knockoff les paul that had seymour duncan single coils in it and the hum was gone entirely. that included the switch cavity, pickup cavities, and the main cavity. if that doesnt work you should check to see if there is something wrong with your ground wire
@lansalot53 no, i have 2 humbuckers. i have a mid single coil but i don't use it. i only use the neck or bridge humbuckers. tried shielding it actually but didn't make any difference then i realize that the cavity is already covered with conductive coating so had to remove the shielding. anyways, i get the hum when i put the distortion gain at full and only when i'm not playing. if i touch any metal it minimizes it but still there.
@ayawlex dang. i hope its not a grounding problem. it it is then thats gonna take some work, i wish i could help more but i would have to be holding your guitar
@lansalot53 na, i realized there is a wire soldered to the back spring of the floyd rose bridge, so i figured that is the grounding. it's probably why when i tried shielding it didn't make any difference since it's grounding and shielded already.. sigh... i think it's the wall socket that is bad... tsk tsk tsk... guess i really need a noise gate
Ok guys , I have a problem in my guitar , would be glad if anyone can help . well my problem is when i want to bend the high e or b string it hardly could be bend and just get muted , if i pushed so hard to bend the string may get broken , anyone knows what is this problem ?
@oOoKhaledoOo Adjust the height of your tremolo/bridge, the strings are most likely to be too close to the fretboard, I used to get a similar problem and that's what solved it. As far as the concern of the string getting broken, check the gauge and tuning, but nevertheless, don't be afraid of bending the heck out of it =D
Just over a year ago, I brought a second hand PRS SE standard, and when I brought it, it played very well. However, over recent months, I have had two major problems; extremely bad fret buzz on all strings, and on the b and e strings, when I bend a note, it will cut out and make no sound if I try to do a full tone bend. I am only 15, and haven't had much experience of these problems, so if any of you could give me any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
this is where you gotta fiddle with the trust rod I REPEAT! DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF! trust me, send it to your local music shop, tell them it chokes and you got fret buzz, they will know what to do :)
@Foovirna I would check the neck angle first. When you get your guitar home, the climate is different. This will cause the neck to acclimate to the new environment. Like you stated, the guitar seems different. If you have a string buz on all strings its the neck. Check the neck angle. I would take it to a shop or to a luthier
how many springs on the floyd rose is good for drop d tuning? right now i got 4, would 3 they way you have on the king v make it so it takes less strength to use the whammy bar?
Enjoy? I think the words are extremely useful information. Although I know a good amount of this, I think that your taking the time to make these vids is absolutely great.
I got a problem which i dont know if it;s a problem. When i hold on, the on strings(e,b,g) 2 frets on a different string n play them both it makes a noise kinda screamy. its a problem or it's normal?
i have a great deann guitar but i have bad fret buzz on only one fret, the 17th? idk why, i got it set up at a really nice guitar shop and they didind even fix it?!, and ive changed the acvtion and it slightly made it better, but gany suggestions?
@andy92811 yeah it does. it takes skill to play a guitar quickly he is good. the only reason why you say he isnt good is because he hasn't built much technical skill in riff making
I have noticed that my guitar has fret buzz on the 1st to 4th frets after changing from dropped c to BEADF#B tuning (d'addario heavy gauge strings 0.012-0.054). To remove this i have tried loosening the trust rod. After i have loosened the trust rod about 180 degrees, i still could not see any change in the string action. What i want to know is,
Should i continue to loosen the trust rod till i see change?
I am a little worried that if i do so it will ultimately break the neck.
again this is why you have to have your guitar profesionaly set up..unless you buy a custom shop guitar...your mII is a production line guitar and will require a setup to meet your critical needs...no factory can invest the time to do such a critical setup ...sometimes you get lucky.
I have a USA Jackson King V too and it does indeed have a lot of noise issues. I haven't done any modifications to it yet but I would like to try what you did to yours. After you put foil on the inside of the black plate and installed that ground wire did you stop there or did you take out all of the electronics and placed copper housing inside of it? Also, where did you soder the ground wire to in the electronics (which is attatched to the foil covered back plate) if you don't mind my asking.
There are some problems with this video and the information you present.
Wood is an organic material that ages and can absorb/loose moisture. As a result something made of an inorganic material like a fret will move as a result of this. To say that a fret lifting in a guitar should result in a finger point at the factory is incorrect.
If I take a guitar made in seattle where humidity is 12% and send it to denver where they have a 4% relative humidity t he instrument will implode and frets may be effected. This is not the result of flawed workmanship at the shop.
hmmm well the excessive pickup noise is from the high output pickups, because although you can't hear it the strings are always vibrating. When you touch your hands on it, your holding the strings in place. And besides thats what a volume knob and playing are for.
I have excessive pick up noise and like this video, he gets louder as you take your hand off. But it doesn't go away when you put your hand on the strings, it 's always there, but not as loud though. At first, i thought it was the amp, but then i realise when i turned the tuner for the pick up down, the noise faded away, but at the cost of a good tone.
So i can have an awesome tone, with the pick up noise ruining my play, or a mediocre/crappy tone, but no pick up noise :S
U have awesome helpful vids & I TY , but what about the NUT.....I have a Floyd rosE NUT no one mentions a word about String heigth coming from the Nut. ?? anyone got any advice? this seems to be highly overlooked.
I just got a used jackson RR3 (2008) and the floyd rose on it goes out of tune when i use it. Note: It is tilted back i dont know if this could be causing it. Help.
I have gig in 2 weeks and just plugged my Fender tele 60th anniversary in a Fender Chorus and I have a weird noise like a BZZZZZZZ which gets higher with the volume going up, I tried another guitar and there's no noise. It's probably an eletronic problem does anyone have the same problem??
I wish guitar companies would spend less money on bling (LTDs horrid abalone binding) and fancy paint jobs, and hire skilled luthiers to do a fret level before the guitar leaves the factory.
@1metalhead238 I seen a lot of ESP LTD's have bad or no sheilding from my experience. Don't get me wrong, I love ESP LTD's and love their EX's. Just seen their other guitars and they were pretty bad. By the way, Carvin is also an assembly line factory, but they check the entire guitar for deffects when its finished being assembled. ESP doesn't do that a lot since they have a lot of guitars being mass produced.
@metalmusiqcrzy Yeah, but ESP is trying to fix that problem. If you get an ESP made in Korea, then its most likely to be great quality. Don't know about Japan now since its been just a wild card over there at the ESP Factorys.
@AutodromoF1 LTD is the generic ESP.. ESPs are great.. its the same with Squier/Fender and Epiphone/Gibson... the cheaper line they make arnt as good as the high end ones
I have a problem with my guitar. I have a cheap ESP LTD M-10 and i recently changed the frets.I put a size 9 frets set but it sounds like ... well i cant really describe it ... like iron or something and my frets buzz also.(When i had the old frets it was ok)
at 8:09, i have the exact same guitar just a different finish and i dont have dead note at all so maybe you dont know it all even though you play like a mother fucker
I belive both of my guitars have good fretting, my stagg used to have pretty low action,I set it alil higher by accident last string change lol
My Ibanez has really low string action, excpt for the 7th string,it buzzs on the first fret i think, my rg420eg was also very low and comfertable, i sent it back though

@DuaLeaD Ya that jackson is really cheap what about 1500.
What a joke American made by some stoned out failed guitar player who forgot to shield the guitar. Good tips for those that dont know.

@Foovirna Mate your guitar has choke
this is where you gotta fiddle with the trust rod I REPEAT! DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF! trust me, send it to your local music shop, tell them it chokes and you got fret buzz, they will know what to do :)
zWhu5tiFFIE 1 year ago
@zWhu5tiFFIE Thanks man. My guitar teacher also gave me some help with it too, and its back to normal now ;D
Foovirna 1 year ago
@Foovirna Glad to help :)
zWhu5tiFFIE 1 year ago
@Foovirna I would check the neck angle first. When you get your guitar home, the climate is different. This will cause the neck to acclimate to the new environment. Like you stated, the guitar seems different. If you have a string buz on all strings its the neck. Check the neck angle. I would take it to a shop or to a luthier

@andy92811 yeah it does. it takes skill to play a guitar quickly he is good. the only reason why you say he isnt good is because he hasn't built much technical skill in riff making

ur going to get that string buzz on any guitar at some point in its lifetime. you just have to do upkeep on ur guitars its not that difficult to fix.
jtown308 1 year ago
hey dude, nice job on the videos.
i have an esp ltd mh401qm and am having some trouble with fret buzzes.
I know that changing the settings of the pivot studs can also alter
string action. So can you tell me how to safely raise the heights of
the studs? I have read that this cannot be done under friction.
Can you please tell me what that means?
thanx in advance

I have noticed that my guitar has fret buzz on the 1st to 4th frets after changing from dropped c to BEADF#B tuning (d'addario heavy gauge strings 0.012-0.054). To remove this i have tried loosening the trust rod. After i have loosened the trust rod about 180 degrees, i still could not see any change in the string action. What i want to know is,
Should i continue to loosen the trust rod till i see change?
I am a little worried that if i do so it will ultimately break the neck.

kissmybigbigamp 1 year ago
again this is why you have to have your guitar profesionaly set up..unless you buy a custom shop guitar...your mII is a production line guitar and will require a setup to meet your critical needs...no factory can invest the time to do such a critical setup ...sometimes you get lucky.
stymye 1 year ago
For as much much as you pay for those ESP or USA Jacksons, you really shouldn't get any factory problems. Too bad though.

ThieleM 1 year ago
If I take a guitar made in seattle where humidity is 12% and send it to denver where they have a 4% relative humidity t he instrument will implode and frets may be effected. This is not the result of flawed workmanship at the shop.
ThieleM 1 year ago
hmmm well the excessive pickup noise is from the high output pickups, because although you can't hear it the strings are always vibrating. When you touch your hands on it, your holding the strings in place. And besides thats what a volume knob and playing are for.
searinglead15 1 year ago
I have excessive pick up noise and like this video, he gets louder as you take your hand off. But it doesn't go away when you put your hand on the strings, it 's always there, but not as loud though. At first, i thought it was the amp, but then i realise when i turned the tuner for the pick up down, the noise faded away, but at the cost of a good tone.
So i can have an awesome tone, with the pick up noise ruining my play, or a mediocre/crappy tone, but no pick up noise :S

I wish guitar companies would spend less money on bling (LTDs horrid abalone binding) and fancy paint jobs, and hire skilled luthiers to do a fret level before the guitar leaves the factory.

@AutodromoF1 LTD's are assembly line. if u want a perfect guitar u need a real esp made in japan :P
1metalhead238 1 year ago
@1metalhead238 I seen a lot of ESP LTD's have bad or no sheilding from my experience. Don't get me wrong, I love ESP LTD's and love their EX's. Just seen their other guitars and they were pretty bad. By the way, Carvin is also an assembly line factory, but they check the entire guitar for deffects when its finished being assembled. ESP doesn't do that a lot since they have a lot of guitars being mass produced.
tuck234 1 year ago
@tuck234 i heard the esp side is a lot more strengent on leting fucked up axes leaving the factory
metalmusiqcrzy 1 year ago
@metalmusiqcrzy Yeah, but ESP is trying to fix that problem. If you get an ESP made in Korea, then its most likely to be great quality. Don't know about Japan now since its been just a wild card over there at the ESP Factorys.
tuck234 1 year ago
@AutodromoF1 LTD is the generic ESP.. ESPs are great.. its the same with Squier/Fender and Epiphone/Gibson... the cheaper line they make arnt as good as the high end ones
