What a beautiful tango! Another proof that H. Gold could write good music as well as orchestrate it. Love the pictures of the artists and of the contemporary life. The lady at the cafe with the phone on the table is no different than today's people with their cell phones.
Did you notice some mysterious number on the table? Probably it was the in-door communication system between clients. Like the one you may remeber from Bob Foss' movie "Cabaret"
Yes, Bob my temperament indeed, is very close to the hot rhythms of the 1920s. But those old tangos of prewar Poland also have some true spell on every Pole - mostly, bacause they come from the Atlantis... It's the haunting voice of our souls, coming from long long ago, from before the Great Catastrophe in 1939, which changed our land & our nation forever
Thanks Eva. You are right: the mixture of the Slavonic melancholy mixed with that of the Jews has created a totaly explosive third element, that found its ideal framing in the mathematically disciplined music lines of a tango. The Holocaust, alas, has put an end to that phenomenon, forever
Grezgorz, Thank you for yet another Fabulous Fog vocal and Wlast/Gold Romantic Tango Masterpiece. I love the video of prewar Waszawa. G, I would love to go back in time and be a part of that Elite Polish Sophisticated High Life. You put on the greatest photos. Dziekuje.
Thanks Genia, you are my sunshine! :-) But notice, althought this tango, indeed, is made by the Gold/Włast duo, but here it is not Artur Gold, a really great and very prolific tango composer, (who died tragically in Treblinka) but his brother Henryk - who did not compose so much (he was more into band leading)
If Genia is your sunshine, let me be your moonshine! I especially love the black & white images in this powerful meld of the two closely related "melancholies."

Barbara, I feel honoured to declare you solemnly the One and Only Moonshine of This Site :-)) Howgh!

Thanks. But what does Howgh mean? Something like baying at the moon when one has drunk too much moonshine?
