  • What's this "WE" don't have any?

  • @MrXray3delta

Well, do you? No, you don't. Just the goverment. Not regular people. That's your answer.

  • @krackerhoofd Well what's odd is flamethrowers are COMPLETELY legal in all 50 states as I type this they are mostly used as a defoliant quite a useful tool.

Though what keeps people from owning them other than lack of practicality is sheer price 3K and up a pop + gas & propellant = wallet pain.

Though as a weapon yeah pretty darn dangerous to the user might as well hang a HUGE bull's eye on him shouting "SHOOT HERE, DUMBASS!" heh sorry had to...

  • surprisingly accurate description of it`s inception. He will be missed sorely

  • @grindorblackout1986 He was BRILLIANT!

  • @LG396 Was, is and always will be

  • tyea i sure like to set those people on fire over there

  • "If only I had something that would throw flame on them..."

    "Cave Johnson here".

  • This guys face fits so well with the jokes hes telling. His facial features, expressions, and jokes combine make a grade A performance!

  • United States Of America

Legal to buy and own a flamethrower.

    Illegal to possess marijuana.

  • @ibanezgeorge : The government: "If you want to HURT or kill someone, we're cool with that, and can help you cut through the red tape; if you want to feel good, or make other people feel good, we have a problem with that, and we'll respond accordingly." If that doesn't sum it up, I have nothing more to offer.

  • this looks more like an nra infomercial than a joke, nothing against george

  • This comedian is a GENIOUS!

0:59 for example, notice the tone of voice he takes, and how his face moves. "there are some people we'd like to throw flame on" like when he said on his mouth stuck out in a way that makes it even funnier! XD

All these physical elements and the concept of the comedy make it great!

  • @Mangaman1100 the master. I miss him so much goddamnit

  • what show is this from ?

  • he looks like my granpa.

  • @burningburney94 : I think he's my uncle, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part. ;])

  • Ah George, you are missed my man...

  • I want to play Black Ops now :I

  • @questionablemakings and paint them dark brown, we wouldn't want anyone to SEE THEM!

  • We have some people we'd like to throw flame on.

  • I didn't realize how much of Mitch Hedberg's delivery must have been inspired by Carlin until I watched this.

  • 0:53...priceless! Ok, this whole thing is priceless.

  • LMFAO!!!!!!!!! SO FUNNY!!!!!!!

  • love george carlin. thx for posting this.

  • burning them up.

  • the best joke is the very last phrase, "we don't want anyone to see them". we don't want anyone to see machines that shoot giant flames!

  • I want a Flamethrower that goes "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF"

  • @IzzyInc27 press 7 then 2 quickly :3

  • Da Vinci invented the flamethrower--wouldn't want to have been HIS neighbor. "NOW what the hell's he doing over there?! Hey, you idiot!! My roof's on fire, ***hole!!" "Sorry! One of the hinges on the spring broke!" ;])

  • @buzzclick500 "The concept of throwing fire as a weapon has existed since ancient times. Early flame weapons date from the Byzantine era, whose inhabitants used rudimentary hand-pumped flamethrowers on board their naval ships in the early 1st century AD (see Greek fire). " Quite a bit before DaVinci

  • @Impulse725 : That really burns me up. ;])

  • I miss him :(

  • :52

    heyyyyy quiet a concept!!!!!!

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

    lmfao

  • LMAO ... RIP You old fuck.

  • 77 people have flamethrowers that can be seen

  • The idea of creating a flamethrower, just tell us how stupid the humakind is in general.

  • @HKH73

What is the purpose of warfare? To kill people and break things.

What does a flamethrower do? It kills people and breaks (burns) things.

Nothing stupid about the flamethrower. It does exactly what it is supposed to do.

If you want to make an argument for stupid, you would have to start with the initial premise, warfare.

PS, the US arsenal has not included flamethrowers since 1978.

  • @Leonid3s Are you fucking stupid, they've been using them since WWll dumbass

  • @stormercody

No, dumbass, I am not stupid.

    Flamethrowers were used in WWII.

They were also used in Korea and Vietnam.

All three of those wars were BEFORE they removed them from the US arsenal of weapons in 1978.

  • @Leonid3s I am sorry, I thought that you meant that they didn't start using them until 1978

  • @stormercody

    Apology accepted.

Although, in the future, it might be nice to find out what the other guy means before calling him stupid and a dumbass. Just a thought.

    Have a great day!

  • @Leonid3s not at all, he didn't say that the flamethrower was a stupid design, but that mankind was "stupid" in a many way or fashion for its creating such weapons, and he has a point, though such discussions are rarely well put out in a 500 character youtube texbox..

important however is that the flamethrower was invented during a time when our peaceful and humanitarian way of thinking was severely underdeveloped

  • @Baseballschaap

If Carlin meant to imply that humans behave irrationally, I have to agree.

Your comment seems to imply humans are now "peaceful and humanitarian."

I have to disagree wit that, strongly.

Even when we attempt to be "humanitarian", we tend to screw it up. In the US, we have a bad habit of throwing money at our social problems. The lack of money is rarely the root cause of the problem, but printing more money is easy, stupid but easy, so the politicians take the easy road.

  • @Leonid3s not at all; my point was that there is now a form of social pressure (like peer-pressure) to be humanitarian, which is nowadays much more prominent than there was at the time of this show, let alone at the time someone invented the flamethrower, there were few public notions of humanitarian thinking as in "mankind", there was a nation-feeling of belonging however, but since you will (usually) use weapons on other nations, that was just fine..

    as i said, youtube 500-char boxes... ^^

  • @Leonid3s and with forms of humanitarian pressure, i mean that nowadays for capital punishment, they swab your arm with alcohol etc. it has no real rational use or meaning, but comes forth out of an urge to feel noble, just like, also a thing Carlin points out, "the sanctity of life" etc. in this aspect i understood that HKH73 called people stupid, but i put in the "tempering" of my argumentation with the underdevelopement of humanitarian way of thinking, which i agree, still is underdeveloped

  • @Baseballschaap The "humanitarian" progress you have noted, will become extinct almost immediately in times of need, stress or opportunity.

The recent London riots are an example.

Currently the US enjoys a standard of living that allows even our poor to be rather comfortable.

Imagine what would occur if we entered a severe depression. Genuine need that would require more than token charity from those with assets would be met with a resounding silence, imo.

  • @Leonid3s and of course stress situations will lead us away from our ivory towers, atleast those who will get into stress situations and will feel its weight the most; in stress situations we go back towards our primitive instincts, and No.1 instinct is survival, of you and of your offspring, i also pointed out (so i don't know why you'd spell this out for me) that the humanitarian way of thinking is often just the idea to make oneself feel noble, or nobler than the rest (sanctity of life etc.)

  • @Baseballschaap

I agree with your comments, including the ones regarding George.

I would like to emphasize the rioters in London were not under stress, by the best reports I have heard, but rather opportunistic.

Many of us would not steal. Period.

But some portion of humanity will take what they can from anyone they can, especially if they believe they are anonymous.

It is not pretty. But it is very human, sadly.

  • @Baseballschaap As an appropriate example, take George here. Did he die in poverty? Nope. Did he leave his family better off than the average US family? Yep.

    Why?

If he was such a humanitarian, wouldnt he want everyone to benefit, especially those with the least, from his estate?

The same holds true, multiplied by billions, for those billionaires that claim to be more humanitarian than the rest of us.

It is easy to give other people's money

  • @Baseballschaap

It is also easy to give away hundres of millions or even billions, which appear enormous to those without billions... Bill Gates and Warren Buffet come to mind.

Yet they still retain the majority of their wealth for their personal use. Why? They dont *need* more than the rest of us. So why do they keep it?

    Because it is theirs.

THAT is the essence of being human.

  • @Leonid3s i won't argue about the idea that we as a species are "selfish", to today's "humanitarian" standards etc. which is also why i don't argue that it's pretty much idiocy, especially as those who call for it, are never the ones who really have to struggle to make a decent living

I will however throw in an extra angle about your example of Carlin, I too would rather leave my family or closest friends something than just the average total stranger

  • @Leonid3s also i don't consider George a humanitarian, far from it, but he THINKS about a lot of things that many people don't even have the courage to consider, also if you read/watch more of carlin's stuff, you see that his philosophy about people and society are a lot more intricate than just the average "share everything" idea, yet he still is opposed to the overmighty lobbyist who runs the US

  • @Leonid3s what's more about carlin's philosophy, he shows in his later stuff and debates that he has no faith in mankind whatsoever as a species, even doubting the sense in existing; yet he isn't a cold bastard who would also condemn family and friends. So i get that carlin didn't just share all with the poorest in the state, mostly because that, in a way, is contradictionary to his philosophy of self-development, he too knew that not ALL the blame can be put on the richest and powerful

  • My last name is Carlin, we ain't as funny as George XD

  • The Army: "We'd like to buy about 500,000 of them please. :) We have some ppl we'd like throw flame ON"

  • Only Carlin could make flamethrowers funny.

  • spy check!

  • I wonder why they didn't use flame throwers in the concentration camps to kill the Jews. Seems to me, it would have been a lot cheaper. Oh, wait a sec. They were already dead.

  • @cobalt100 do I detect a Nazi?

  • Do you ever wondered why spiders, who outnumber human race heavily, haven't started a "revolution"?

    FLAMETHROWERS!

  • we don't want anyone to SEE THEM O_O

    lol

  • There was 1 george carlin,a handfull of people who got the joke and 6billion who vacantly stared unwavering in the cynics truth. I think george had it right, people are full of shit. Material goods and division hold us back as a race. The corrupt few lead the blinkered masses who smile while being fucked. I think about our species shortcommings and it saddens me, were capable of so much and we chose this....

  • Soldiers are people (men, women, children),that kill other people (men, women ,children) with flamethrowers.

  • a flamethrower is the most simple "gun" to me

by simple i mean easiest to make a homemade one

use grill lighter and hair spray

  • @solcario2

You are the reason they invented Napalm.

  • This man is making me rofl in an interesting way.

I never looked at flamethrowers this way. Weapons used to throw flames on peoples faces and set them on fire without you having to move.

  • George Carlin is my favourite comedian. ^_^

  • I wonder if Carlin ever bought a flamethrower. Because it's actually legal for anyone to own a Flamethrower in the US. Heck the army doesn't even use flamethrowers anymore.

  • @DEATHBYFLYINGCDS

This was recorded when the Vietnam War was going on, and flames were being trown at the enemy. You are watching this with 2011 eyes, you need to put on some 1970 glasses :).

  • @Troublesome2008 I realize that this was undoubtedly made when things were different yes. However I suppose some 1970s glasses would do me good, but I don't know where to get some. Would 3D glasses work? since they look alot like the old huge black frame glasses.

  • @Troublesome2008 Actually flamethrowers were already used in WW1 and WW2, they were mostly used in bunkers because it would kill anyone in the bunker.

  • @boertush

Actually flamethrowers were used by the ancient Greeks in like 2000 BC...

  • @Yonkage So that thought occured in a very distant past.

but it did, so, like always, George is right.

  • I can't believe that last laugh wasn't bigger. I'd have hit the floor.

  • @AltUnregistered Yeah, that last bit with the army man really sells the whole thing. The facial expressions are priceless.

  • @AltUnregistered I don't think it was the joke, I think it was his delivery. I have a quote of his on a profile of mine on a dif website but I worded it slightly differently. It was a subtle change but makes a huge difference in how funny I find it.

"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, 'You know, I really want to set those people over there on fire, but I’m just not close enough to get the job done.'”

    -George Carlin

  • We have some people we like to throw flame, on. Ha! Classic!

  • I am more worried that the gov't has control of the media

  • @tillman40 Then just watch overseas media... and the media is controlled by ratings. Its entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • Viv.. I just read it, and it said 2+2=4 and only 4? That's only true for the # base system of 10. That's what is used nowadays. In a # base system of 3, 2+2=10.

  • @jacobWcook in the green base system of #, 2kg of potatoes+2kg of dry peas=5 ppl with full stomach

  • [number of dislikes] people are [reference to video]

  • @corbalt1 you are the first on the whole youtube who didn't said the number! finally!

  • @corbalt1 Best. Top. Comment. EVER!

  • we dont want anyone to seee them

  • what show is this?

  • @detroidxl - Carlin on Campus (1985)

  • 75 people are way too far away to get the job done.

  • Wow, translate actually works well on this video :D

  • "We'd like to buy about 500,000 of them please. We have some people we'd like to throw flame on." Haha ^_^ Genius.

  • @enjoymentness and paint them brown we dont wont anybody to see them

  • Quite a concept! Both the top comments are the same!

  • These people, in the modern era, would have been the Germans in the First World War

  • anyone know what year this was?

  • @codern

    1984

  • best part is where he impersonates the army.

  • Best weapon ever!

  • @318i with the TOMMY GUN AK47 RUSSIAN SNIPPER RIFLE MINI GUN 1887 SHOTGUN AND WINCHESTER AND REMINGTON AUTO LOADER SHOT GUNS DESERT EAGLE SMITH&WESSON 500 MAGNUM REVOLVER 1989 AND 1999 44 MAGNUM RARE REVOLVERS 45 LONGSLIDE WITH LASER SIGHTING UZI 9 MILLIMETER M16A1M 203 PULSE RIFLE M41-A RPG THE GERMAN MG -42 3 ANTI TANK GUNS AND ALL THE TOP OF THE LINE MOST BEST BADASS COMBAT TANKS IN THE WORLD AND A 1987 ITALIAN CROSSBOW THE PSE TACTIC ASSAULT CROSSBOW AND A VERY GOOD COMPOUND BOW AND KNIFES

  • ahhh. OMG I laughed until my stomach hurt and it sounded like I was crying. Too fucking bad he's dead.

  • His army voice is amazing.

  • Kilimanjaro is right bizentitens were most famous for it. The enemy ships believed they had dragons onboard.

  • Now I want a flamethrower so badly.

  • 75 people knew someone who died from a flame thrower and thought this was inappropriate.

  • What do you call a bouncer that works at a gay bar...

  • calling people idiots won't solve anything... because they don't know why they are being called idiots... if they would agree with your opinion they wouldn't even have their own opinion : ) so you should rather try to make people understand that he is not simply a comedian... that he is trying to tell you the truth which isn't easy to understand at all...

  • @chica476 You are by far one of the biggest morons I've ever seen. Who do you think is a good comedian? Dane Cook? George Lopez? (Who both have stolen parts of Carlin's material) I'll bet you $1000 that Lopez and Cook don't last 50 years like Carlin did. Not to mention win 5 Grammy's in the process. Perhaps Carlin's humor, which makes you really think, is far too advanced for your fart and swirly 12 year old humor.

  • @chica476 You are a complete idiot.

  • 75 people are burn victims.

  • @Kaizerworks that was fucking stupid, i hope you die in a house fire.

  • @J3Wburner6K6K6K On the plus side, you'll be able to start the fire from any distance.

  • @Kaizerworks wow, you would say that, but on the other hand LOL.

  • @stikmanaa D:

  • and to think this guy was a narrator on thomas XD

  • I love his facial expressions when he's doing an impersonation of the army. ROFLOL

  • I believe flame throwers were originally german anti trench weapons....

  • @AlexMercersRevenge Read cracked more.

  • @AlexMercersRevenge Actually, the concept of Flamethrowers is Ancient.. The Greek used hand pumped Flamethrowers against enemy Navy.

  • @killamonjaro THe greeks may have built something like a flamethrower where they use some sort of heated air that could be shot out at a distance and still be effective but it was hot air not flame

  • @rvbsmcaboose Actually no.. They used Hand-Pumped Flamethrowers.. That shot bursts of flammable substances onto enemies. Byzantine Empire.. Greek Fire. Look it up, i'm not lying.

  • @AlexMercersRevenge the first modern man portable one certainly but the concept is really old and as has been mentioned was mostly used in ancient naval warfare

  • lolololollolol

  • Did anyone notice George had a different accent when he got older. Here it's New England, later, New York.

  • " If only I had something that could throw flame on them!"

LOL. Rest In Peace George Carlin

  • PYRO

  • the older george is funnier

  • I agree, Carlin got better as he aged.

  • @Byron10301 yeaahh i liked it when he was like..idk what age but its like..he still had a pony tail..but his hair was thinning...george carlin (2005 ish) didnt make me laugh whhereas george carlin from like..mid 90's made me LMAO.

  • @Byron10301 come age, come wisdom.

  • @Byron10301 i liked him the most in the 90s

  • @Byron10301 He's like good wine.

  • @hayzuz3 the older george is more about telling it like it is. shedding light on all the bullshit.

younger george seems to have focused more on spreading laughter.

  • @hayzuz3 he had more years on him to experience more things to make fun of.

  • Hi, could someone help me find the whole show from which this part was taken?

    (and pls correct my english:)

  • @NegusNegest carlin on campus

  • @Str8Faced I love you man!

  • does anyone aside from a few classics like carling make those faces GENIUS

  • damn greeks

  • This man is a genius!

  • Mrrrph, Huddah huh.

  • Carlin is spy!

  • We don't use the flamethrower anymore but if we ever went to war with someone in a Jungle like Vietnam again or something, you can bet your ass we'll use fire based weapons in something, cept package it neat. Incindiary grenades... firebombing... *Uses Sarcasm for the next part* Flamrthrower? oh that's inhumane... but flying a plane over an area and dropping bombs that burst into flames and engulf large areas with fire... that's just dandy! :D

  • Han you know vat vould be a good idea?

    vat?

    A FlammenWerfer!

    Vat das dat do?

    It Werfs Flammen!

  • ok just stop with the god damn talk about " all this inhumane" shit war is inhumane and all fare in war if the terrorists are going to kill americans the we can set those fuckers on fire

  • People commenting about the "(in)humanity" of weapons like the flamethrower are fucking pathetic. In war people die. In truth the flamethrower was as much a psychological weapon as it was a physical one. Thats what made it so effective for cave and tunnel-clearing.

  • @Willaev I bet when i'd set you, or one of your loved ones on fire and let them burn in horrible agony you'd think to yourself that maybe those pathetic people were right after all. Just because your birdbrain is unable to see why it's inhumane doesn't change the facts. There is a reason burning-weapons like flamethrowers, napalm, white phosphorus and so on are forbidden by the convention of the united nations because they ARE INHUMANE in Protocol III.

  • @Samurailord A plain gun shot wound to the gut (common war injury) can take longer to kill and it still hurts just as bad,and as others have said war is inhumane.

  • @Samurailord Well, let's hope they ban knives, bayonets, arrows, rocks, and other instruments of war that don't necessarily kill very fast but are also effective. Ignorant fuck. Your threats are meaningless, you don't have the balls.

  • @max15003 Don't know about the army, but I do. XD

  • This is awesome! You rock George!

  • I'm still reading new meaning into this mans work, even to this day.

The entire bit about "We don't have them, the Army has them." How beautifully he worked in the ever-present concept of oppression via superior munitions.

A comedian with a perspective. With a MESSAGE.

    Legendary.

  • omg !!!!!!! rip george. wish you were still around. i dont think anyone can come up with this type of material.
