@KKK4LifeorDie oh and i forgot something, is proved that nazzis often suffer from paranoia and schizophrenia so why don´t you go talking about your disagreement with the globalized modern world with you imaginary friend?
@KKK4LifeorDie before talking shit you should consider this:
First: Is known that Jews have the best business mind
Second: the Asians have the highest IQ
Third: some of the greatest men humanity has ever known are color people such as Martin Luther King or Mandela; i bet you don't have the balls to do something even close to what they did
Fourth: haven´t you hear about color guy's dicks? i think Aryans weren't that lucky
@mindcontrol31 Irish people never changed their names in America. The fact that is they have made one of the biggest contributions to our military, politics, arts, education etc than probably any ethnic group. If your jealous about that fact then you stupid. Black Americans are also contributing to those things in a very positive way like many other groups. If we all work together maybe the possibilities are endless.
@star50ify I dont think that the Irish changed names as much as Jews,Italians, and Germans but some of them did. This is not about jealousy. It about people saying hey we did it why couldnt you knowing their situation was completly different. I see by your comments you understand that Peace 2 u Man.
It's a view point of a character in a movie based on Whitey Bulger, who was a low life drug pushing murdering scumbag. The notion that in anyway he should be used as a role model is crazy. In the move he got his just reward, death, and in real life he will die in prison. The Irish became successful through hard work just like the Italians and the Greeks but black Americans have always had it harder than anybody and it still is fucking hard for them. So how about be give them a break in 2012.
@Fanofcartoons1994 this movie is actually adapted from a Hong Kong film called "Infernal Affairs" Check it out. I believe it's on youtube. It's pretty good. The Departed almost copied the entire movie scene by scene.
Every other race under the sun believe they know so damn much about black people--always negative of course, and when they are presented with positive info about black people they want to dispute it. It's a hatred borne out of fear and jealousy! Even when black people claim a stake for self in this society, you'll are so frightened at the prospect of our return to greatness that you will stop at nothing to destroy everything we achieve. Learn the history of riots in this country--pre 1960s!
@CRAYOLACHICABCXYZ You've achieved fuck all and return to greatness? When have you ever been great? You've only been considered human within the last 150 years or so and that's because America took you as slaves and "freed" you. Nobody fears your unorganized crime and no one is jealous of your poverty and illiteracy. You steal and then continue to ask for more, you're truly a plague on humanity, if we can even call you humans.
@CRAYOLACHICABCXYZ maybe we should learn about the riots of our time now! Aka L.A. and the looting in New Orleans...get a clue. This isn't the 60's anymore, we live in a nation where assets are handed to the lazy american (i.e. white, black, red, orange, and yellow). Get a clue and stop hugging the trees...
another double standard white crime movies about white scumbags its seen as innocent to murder and killing when they do it but when do it its way way worse
@theo665, meaning they all migrated to the North End, and the knights of columbus ran the local union, (columbus being italian) so the Irish had to take it back
I think this is one of the, if not the best role for Jack Nicholson. Actually its not as good as his role in One Flew Over the Cuckoos nest, but this role is good for different reasons.
He is so, so menacing, and hold your attention through every single scene he is in. you can really see the fear he strikes into he closest allies.
@Theo665 he is saying that the italians had control of the union which allowed the community to have jobs, so the italian can extort more money/racketeer, and discriminated the irish, but then he goes on to say that the irish took the union back for themeselves
This government has failed us, the government itself has failed us. The white liberals, who have been posing as our friends, have failed us. Once we see that all these other sources to which we've turned have failed, we stop turning to them and turn to ourselves. We need a self-help program, a do it yourself philosophy, a do it right now philosophy, an it's already too late philosophy.
@RikiBono, actually "Costello" is an anglicized form of the the irish surname "Oisdealbhach". Again, "Moriarty" sounds very italian, yet it's actually irish.
0:38 That ain't southie. That's Eastie. Eastie mighta had more micks and guinnes back then but there's more latinos. good barber shop near Central Square opposite Wallgreens. The Otis has gotten better, no more hard gravel for a school yard. Now they got the same soft shit they use in playgrounds on Piers Park. Now Orient Heights, that's closer to Revere and Winthrop. Less Tripple deckers in that part of Eastie. Lotta good places to eat up there too. Anyone ever been to SPinnelli's or Santarpios
Let me just say as fucking racist and segregated as Boston, The South Shore, and Rhode Island really are. Im gonna miss the shit out of living in a triple decker...Thanks Massholes for teaching me the difference between RI Staties and Mass Staties. Thanks for giving me ny wieners,For how much this area bleeds green in the winta and red & white in the summa...Now go to Dunkin and chug your coffee milk with some wicked chowda..Peace and Love NewYorker
@TheBiakko Idk, when all the imigrnats started coming from Europe they got the same shitty treatment many imigrants get today, except some even had their names changed. The Irish were along the many disliked.
"See thats what the niggers don't realize, If I got anything against the black chappies it's this no one give it to ya, you have to take it" - fuckin poetic!
@BHDread I assume youre black and you got it all wrong.
What Jack is saying here is that the Irish, Germans, Jews and Italians, all faced the same discrimination when they came to the U.S. but they didnt portest about it like the blacks, they just did what they could to get by and eventually became accepted. Black people went to DC, protested for equal rights. There is no "Martin Luther King" of the irish or germans.
Nothing to do with racism, just the different ways they went about it.
@mahavishnuxc Here's the problem with that though: when Blacks built up their communities and became self sufficient, Whites didn't like it and murdered Blacks, burned their homes & businesses, passed laws to fuck Black people over and murdered their children...all while claiming to be "God-fearing Christians". Blacks never asked for a handout, they simply called out this nation's hypocrisy.
@DanFreeman717 Blacks never built anything up, every single one of their shit stained ghetto shiteholes has always had violence. It's the same violence they have in Aperica, the same violence they bring to the UK and Australia. It's a common tactic to blame the white man but the proof that they fail around the world even with welfare and international aid pretty much trumps any of their sad excuses. Murdered their children? You mean the sprogs who were shooting cops by age 11?
@mahavishnuxc Many Jews Italians and Irish changed their names and lied about ethnicity. Blacks cant do that plus if Whitey Bulger and JFK are examples of Irish taking charge we got gangsters, Congressmen , Senators, Generals , Buisnessmen, and a Black in the Whitehouse. The Irish were GIVEN jobs as firemen and cops to keep them from gangbanging. We all faced the same discrimination yeah right !
@threadysparrow Infernal Affairs was a foreign movie that this movie was a remake of kinda, but Jack Nicholson's character is also based on James "Whitey" Bulger.
@FamousMovieScenes thanks for the info. i looked him up and im surprised that hes still alive. i thought he would have been whacked by now or something.
"Non Serviam", "I will not serve", was actually the phrase that originated from Lucifer in an act of defiance to God - not necessarily James Joyce, but the autobiographical character of Stephen Dedalus uses this phrase to articulate his own defiance to Ireland's catholic orthodoxy, fully (almost arrogantly) aware of his own parallels to the Devil.
You're underrating the man, don't you think? He's not one of the best, he's definitely the best of all-time. No one is as good as Nicholson, no one. Even when it comes to Oscars, he's got three of them. He has no match. No De Niro, no Pacino...No one.
@UFCNUTTA I, in my modest opinion, believe that the only reason some people thought Heath Ledger was better than Nicholson on the Joker role is because Ledger passed away and they felt they should give him the edge. Don't get me wrong, I respect Ledger may god rest his soul but comparing him to Nicholson wouldn't be fair. Jack is definitely in a league of his own.
@CielLint I remember a quote Nicholson gave, when asked about the great actors and who he thought ranked as the best among them. He said "I couldn't say where exactly I rank, but I know when Marlon Brando died, the rest of us all got to move up a place". Nicholson at his best was a truly great actor, but there were definitely a few greater than him in terms of their talent and influence on film and cinema, and he himself was aware of that.
Welcome back Whitey...Good to see ya again. This Providence dago loved this version of your live..But you didn't go out in a 'blaze of glory' like Jack did.
one of the best intro's ever...accent everything....NICHOLSON IS KING........."20years after an irishman couldnt get a fuckin job....we had the presidency...may he rest in peace"
they finally got whitey so all the boston news stations've been showing clips from the departed since jack nicholson based the character of frank on him
Martin Scorsese is one of the greatest american directors in history! Thank you Mr. Scorsese for Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York and The Departed. Greetings from Poland!
Best opening scene ever.Exellent writing in this movie.Jack really surprised me,with his portrail of an Irish gangster, kinda reminded me of Wity Bulger.Jack shoulda won Acadmy award, bravo Jack Nicholson!Bravo!
scorsese is the only one who have the attention of Europe(ans) when it comes to mob movies. Hesa very good. he got the perfect combination between the clips, the storyline, the music, and the way he cut the movie. Shutter island also is a very good movie. When u watch it for the second time, u notice that most things the doctors say, are a way to trigger his memory out of his own make believe
@TheGenX1979 example: when u hear mahler for the first time, he ( Kingsley) say: this was the commanders quarter in the revolution. About Solano:'' She drowned her kids in the backyard'', etc etc. All to snap him out of his own world he created to surpress the truth of his own deeds. great F#%$@ movie !
When I was growing up, they would say you could become cops or criminals. But what I'm saying is this. When you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?
@MittRomneyForPrez08 the cops or criminals one? back in the day the catholic nuns taught you, based on costello's age the could have been the 50s. cops are the good guys and we believe that what they do is right and criminals do the wrong, obviously both have guns. so really when your facing a loaded gun there is no difference because either way your staring at death
Jack+Stones+Scorsese=EPIC

scorsese is the only one who have the attention of Europe(ans) when it comes to mob movies. Hesa very good. he got the perfect combination between the clips, the storyline, the music, and the way he cut the movie. Shutter island also is a very good movie. When u watch it for the second time, u notice that most things the doctors say, are a way to trigger his memory out of his own make believe
TheGenX1979 9 months ago
@TheGenX1979 example: when u hear mahler for the first time, he ( Kingsley) say: this was the commanders quarter in the revolution. About Solano:'' She drowned her kids in the backyard'', etc etc. All to snap him out of his own world he created to surpress the truth of his own deeds. great F#%$@ movie !

When I was growing up, they would say you could become cops or criminals. But what I'm saying is this. When you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?
frankcostelloe 10 months ago 17
@frankcostelloe Could you explain this line? I'm having a lot of trouble understanding it.
MittRomneyForPrez08 9 months ago
@MittRomneyForPrez08 the cops or criminals one? back in the day the catholic nuns taught you, based on costello's age the could have been the 50s. cops are the good guys and we believe that what they do is right and criminals do the wrong, obviously both have guns. so really when your facing a loaded gun there is no difference because either way your staring at death
